Release Blitz: The Gaybor War: Raquel Riley
Morningwood Estates: a community that always rises to the occasion and takes ‘love thy neighbor’ a little too literally.
Carter Reed moved to Morningwood Estates for peace, quiet, and a fresh start.
Instead, he got Benji Stewart.
Benji doesn’t believe in rules, subtlety, or minding his own business—especially when Carter’s perfectly organized life is just begging to be disrupted. From competitive decorating to passive-aggressive pranks, their neighborly standoff quickly becomes the most entertaining thing on the block.
Carter thinks Benji is irritating.
Benji thinks Carter is repressed.
The neighborhood is placing bets.
These gay neighbors quickly realize that the boundary between animosity and attraction is as thin as their property line.
Because in Morningwood Estates, privacy is a myth… and falling for your rival is practically a community event.
The Gaybor War is an MM romcom romance with HOA nonsense, alcohol-induced shenanigans, flirty banter, and a plot-twisty HEA.
Morningwood Estates is a quirky, social, regimented, and cliquey kind of neighborhood. Everyone knows everyone's business, day drinking is plentiful, the newsletters have inappropriate undertones, and the rules are kind of bent as best they can to cause a stir.
Carter Reed was not prepared when he moved into the Lemon Taffy house, hoping for peace, quiet, and a fresh start. Little did he know that the other SAG(single and gay) guy across the street would change his life. From outrageous flirting with awkward consequences, spying, disruptions, competitions, and pushing every single one of Carter's buttons, Benji Stewart demands his attention. Carter does not want to keep thinking about him. He tries to keep his life organized, safe, cautious, quiet, if not a bit boring.
Benji is sunshine and chaos, dramatic, impulsive, attention-seeking, loud, and surprisingly charming. Benji thinks Carter is repressed. Carter thinks Benji is irritating at first, but when Benji realizes he needs to stop chasing and be patient, he finds that Carter is more willing to let his guard down and come to him.
It starts out funny and feisty, but develops into this slow-burn, sweet, and sexy vibe as these two stop fussing and fighting and just start to connect and accept each other with their personal quirks and embrace them. I loved these two opposites together and how they balanced each other out.
There is a thin line between animosity and attraction, and love and hate, and these two ride it. It's got war, peace, friendly fire, love, competition, and plenty of neighborhood shenanigans. It's feisty and funny, but there is also a really sweet and heartfelt connection and love story that develops amongst the craziness. I liked the newest neighbor who moved in and hope maybe there is a second book in the series. This rom-com was a fun departure from this author, who often guts me with emotional hurt-comfort books.
