Sighing,
I wrap a towel around my waist and open the door, ready to try and be at least
behave cordially, which I know is only right. “Listen, can I—”
“She’s
gone.”
I
look up, startled by Laney’s voice and even more shocked to see her sitting on
my bed. Thank God I put on a towel. “Where’d she go?”
“Home,
I guess.” She shrugs. “I didn’t ask. I heard the front door slam and got up to
see what the hell was going on. Since you’re here and she’s not, I’m assuming
it was her.”
How
did I not hear the door slam? Not that I
would’ve chased her. “All right, she left. So what’re you doing in here?”
She
stands, grabbing some shorts off my floor and throwing them at me. “Go put
those on and we’ll talk. Since I’m up,”
she reminds me with an evil glare.
I
head back in the bathroom to change, and stay in there, locking the door and
taking a deep breath. I’m over six feet tall and lift almost every day, but
yes, I’m scared to face Laney. Not only is she a hellcat when she wants to be,
but I don’t want to see the disgust or disappointment in her eyes. She’s one of
my best friends, even more so after becoming roommates, and her opinion means a
lot to me.
“Get
out here!” she yells when she finally realizes I must be stalling. “Take it
like a man.”
I
might as well go out there or she’ll undoubtedly come in here, kicking in the
door or taking it off the hinges in what I have no doubt would be less than
five minutes.
She
pats the bed beside her when I open the door. “Come sit down. We’re doing this
now.”
I
hesitantly take a seat, my knee bouncing as I wait for her to speak.
“First,
and of the utmost importance, you know I call my father ‘Daddy,’ so hearing
your visitors scream it repeatedly in
the middle of the night freaks me out. I wake up thinking I’m in some bad
Lifetime movie.”
Fighting
my smirk, I agree. "Okay, got it." Maybe this little chat won’t be so bad after all.
"Second,"
she stands and tucks my extra pillow between the headboard and wall before
sitting back down beside me, "on school and game nights, booty call curfew
is eleven. That work for you?"
"Yeah."
I sigh and run my hands along my head, wishing I had some hair to pull.
"It won't happen again, Gidge. I'm sorry."
She
places a hand on my shoulder with a small smile. "Don't be sorry. This is
your house too and we hadn't talked about it. Now we have, so we're all good.
Any rules you want to put in place?"
"Nah,
I'm easy."
"Made
crystal clear by the parade of women coming in and out of here." She
laughs and scoots away quickly, ducking the pillow I grab and swing at her
head. “Speaking of which, been busier than usual lately—you trying to make a
little Guinness or Gonorrhea?"
Here we go—this is what she really wants to talk about. It was a nice segue, funny even, but
I’m on to her.
Sawyer Bennett took one look at Emmett dancing at Parker's bachelor party and knew she was someone he had to get to know better. The problem was that she disappeared and was hard to find. And when they do inadvertently cross paths again, it is not Sawyer's finest moment. And when they see each other again, it just has to be fate. Soon they are spending time together and Sawyer is totally besotted. But she keeps holding back and keeping him in the friends zone. Emmett has a secret...a big one. And how Sawyer deals with it will determine how they proceed.
Oh Sawyer... You just have to love him. I have from the first book Emerge, but I adore him even more now. He's always been the outspoken, crass, clueless, playboy who is also protective and a good friend. He is like that annoying brother that everybody secretly wishes they had. But as the series has continued we have started to see the little cracks in his sarcastic, lover boy armor. We are beginning to see a man who has watched his friends fall in love with wonderful women and started wishing that maybe he could find someone to share his life with.
Maybe it's all the "true love" bullshit around me, everyone's pairing off, my friends adored by some of the hottest, coolest girls you'll ever meet, but I'm starting to feel like anything but the lucky bastard who escaped the claws of a woman. I feel like something's missing. Oh, fuck me, I'm a goddamn chick, dreaming of my skipping, extraordinary Princess Charming.
There are so many different side of Sawyer. We already knew the cocky, big mouth, fun, crazy, and sarcastic one. But now we get to see the one that's more unsure, vulnerable, emotional, protective, generous, and caring. We also see the man who is striving to do better and make changes for the future, while taking what life brings him in stride. Well, most of the time anyway. And this sweet, devoted, loving Sawyer just absolutely melted my heart.
"You're a one of a kind man. Hard body, soft heart."
The person I am around Emmett, it's the me I want to be. It feels natural.
I liked Emmett too. She is sweet but strong, a little reserved but also spirited and sassy. She is independent minded and does not like to depend on others. When her life came crumbling down around her she picked herself up and did the best she could. She had no support until Sawyer barreled into her life and brought the crew with him. So it just made it all that more meaningful that Sawyer decided he was going to be there for her and that the crew also took her in. Of course I still love the crew. We catch glimpses of most of them and we get a lot of Dane and Laney in this one. Their relationship with each other and with Sawyer is so special. They truly are all a family that sticks together, takes no prisoners, and kicks the other's ass if needed.
I loved Sawyer and Emmett together. They were so compatible and their relationship was based on friendship, mutual like and respect, as well as passion. And I liked that despite their easy going relationship that they did have hurdles, doubts and insecurities. They each had to put in extra work at times to deal with their own fears and those of their partner in order to try to build a life together. But their lives changed pretty fast and sometimes it was hard for them to keep up. Stress, responsibilities, jealousy, feelings of unworthiness, and anxiety all have an affect.
But when it is all said and done will at all become too much? Will she not only lose Sawyer, but also her new found friends and pseudo family?
I really enjoyed this one. I loved how Sawyer just jumped in as Emmett's Knight in Shining Armor even if his suit was a bit rusty. He just put a big smile on my face for most of the book. Sure there was some drama and angst, some insecurities, misunderstandings and miscommunication. There were times I wanted to shake them both or yell at them like one of the crew. But there were so many times that was laughing out loud and some that I was tearing up. Sawyer just has that effect on me. Overall it was a really funny, engaging, sweet, emotional, and heart warming read. It was everything that I hoped that Sawyer's book would be and more. I never would I have expected him to end up where he did, but it all seems just right for him. I am looking forward to more in this series...Bring on Zach!

Entice begins with the scene from the epilogue of Embrace. The woman Sawyer sees dancing at Parker’s bachelor party sticks in his brain. She is awkward and so obviously NOT a dancer that he can’t help but wonder what she’s doing there. Sawyer doesn’t know her name, doesn’t know anything about her, but he is intrigued and searches everywhere he can think to find her. In true Sawyer fashion, their next meeting is unexpected and untimely.
Sawyer cracks me up. You never know just what’s going to come out of his mouth. He’s blunt, crass, and quick with a comeback. But what was really fun was watching him mature over the course of these pages. There is a side of Sawyer here that we’ve only seen hinted at before. Yes, he’s got a soft spot for Laney and the other girls in the Crew, but this went even further. We always knew that when he fell it would be an epic fall, and it. was. epic. Sawyer needed a special woman to rein him in, and boy did he find her. And their second meeting left me laughing at Dane.
Emmett has the perfect mix of everything Sawyer has watched his friends find, but in the perfect fit for him. She is sweet and hard working, with a drive that keeps her running harder than she should at times. She is also hiding something from the people around her. She isn’t looking for a partner when Sawyer swoops in, but when she starts to hope for more than a friendship from him, she fears the feelings she is developing.
Together they were a lot of fun to watch, from Emmett’s independent streak to Sawyer’s discomfort at feeling deep emotions. They don’t have a smooth journey by any means. They begin their relationship by building a friendship, and it grows from there. Watching Sawyer figure out how to feel responsible for someone else and how to lean on others in order to care for his loved ones was a great transformation to watch. Emmett didn’t want to need Sawyer, but watching her bring down her own walls kept a smile on my face no matter what else was going on in the story.
The Crew plays a lesser role in this one as a group, but Sawyer and Emmett get plenty of help from Laney and Dane, being Sawyer’s roommate and best friend. The things Dane does to help Sawyer out in this one just made me love him even more.
I don’t think I’ve laughed and giggled so much while reading in a long time. At one point, Emmett describes the guys in the Crew as “the Planet of the Hot Guys” and says she wishes she could live there forever. I wish the exact same thing! This world, these character and their stories, is the kind of place you get into and don’t want to leave.

Kim's 5 star review
Laney Walker is a quick witted, athletic, southern tomboy who lets few get too close, using her sarcastic zingers to deflect. She also has no idea how others view her, Evan having protected and coveted her since they were children. But college puts a gap between Laney and Evan that neither of them were prepared for- old relationships are tested, new ones are formed and nothing will ever be the same.
Especially when in walks one Dane Kendrick, not at all the familiar, southern charmer of home, but an animal all his own.
A story of growing up, friendship, loyalty, first love, primal love...and life.
Expected Release Date: October, 2013
