Scarlett MacGregor has lived a very sheltered life courtesy of her over-the-top controlling parents. Having never been to a co-ed party, much less on a date, Scarlett has relied on her books, her music, and living vicariously through her best friend Evie to keep her sanity as she's patiently awaited her freedom from their rule.

When Scarlett and Evie go away to college, Scarlett quickly meets Ashton, Dylan, and later, Mason, and is thrown into a crash course of like, love, and lust. With Evie's help, she must figure out the difference in the three and which one she wants before she ends up without any of them.

Metamorphosis is the story of Scarlett's transformation from a young, naive girl to a strong, mature young woman and her search for self-discovery and true love.

Recommended for readers 17+ due to sexual content and harsh language.

I started out really liking this book. I liked Scarlett and her best friend Evie. They were funny and sweet together. I thought there was plenty of description and character development.

Scarlett is a sheltered virgin who just moved away from her controlling parents and is attending college with her best friend Evie. Scarlett and Evie are self proclaimed "book whores" and would discuss books often, compare plot lines to their lives and talk about their "Book Boyfriends". So they make a bet to go after Book Boyfriend types in the hopes of helping Scarlett lose her V card. I thought all of the book references were fun and refreshing.

"We really are little book whores, aren't we? Not just in the number of books that we read, but in how many of the guys we are in love with, the things that we dream about doing with them..."

"That's just the thing, I love so many of our book boyfriends, ALL of them actually....Sometimes I think I'd like the All-American, college frat boy image, maybe even one with a bit of a wild side. But then I think about our beloved tattooed bad boy rockers and I think about tracing their tattoos with my tongue...yummy indeed."

"We need to make sure we consider all potential candidates. We forgot to mention the hot professors looking for reason to tutor us in private, or the famous musicians that are going to mysteriously pop into our lives and beg us to go on tour with them because we are their muse. Ooh, better yet, maybe we can snag us an ultimate...You know the devastatingly handsome, possessive billionaire moguls that can't love wihtout us and are dying to shower us with wealth and satisfy our deep, dark sexual desires."

I loved her male characters: Dylan the All American good boy, Ash the hot philisophical man whore with a heart of gold, and Mason the sweet tattooed rocker. I thought she did a great job developing especially Ash and Mason and I was not even sure which one I wanted Scarlett to be with since I liked them both.

This book derailed for me about 3/4 of the way through, I felt like the author added every angsty book cliche she could in the last part of the book. I got to the point that I did not even like Scarlett or her choices. I did not like some of the plot twists or think they were necessary(even though it was not hard to figure out the biggest one). I was just left thinking WTH?

"I was in the wrong damn fairy tale the whole time, chasing the wrong damn prince."

And we got to a little happy place again, but it is left open for a book 2 with apparently more conflict waiting in the wings.

So I liked this book, I could have loved this book. I usually love books that have drama, emotion, and angst. But somewhere along the line, it just lost me. I do think Erin Noelle is talented and I think her character development and character chemistry were great. I absolutely loved Ash and Mason and would like to read more about them. But sometimes less is more when dealing with plot lines and I guess I just felt like this one got too carried away.

  1. Great review, except that I actually like the realism about life happening even when you have other plans part. I loved the twists and the places they took you. I liked the end much more than the beginning.
