Temporary. That one single word best describes my life these last few years. I’m working at a temporary job until I can finally break free. I’m my little brother’s temporary mother since our mom doesn’t give a crap about either of us. And I’m that temporary girl all the guys want to get with because I give it up so easily. According to the rumors, at least.

But now I’m the temporary girlfriend of Drew Callahan, college football legend and all around golden guy. He’s beautiful, sweet—and he’s hiding way more secrets than I am. He’s brought me into this fake life where everyone seems to hate me. And everyone seems to want something from him. The only thing he seems to want though is…

Me.

I don’t know what to believe anymore. All I know is, I think Drew needs me. And I want to be there for him.

Forever.

Kim's Rating 4.5 out of 5 stars

This book surprised me. I was expecting a cute little story about opposites attracting. What I got was a deeply emotional book about two people dealing with tragedies, secrets, and pain. Drew  hides behind school, football, and his perfect image.  But underneath he is guilt ridden, angry, and destroyed. But Drew has to go home for Thanksgiving and face his family and past issues so he decides to bring along a buffer to help him deal with them. He hires a waitress who is known for her promiscuity and offers her money to go with him.

Drew Callaghan does not talk to girls like me. I'm a local. A townie. He's the quarterback of our winning university football team. He's like a superstar, larger than life, with fans and everything. I work a shitty job and barely make ends meet...Our worlds are such total opposites, I don't have a clue why he would want to talk to me.

"I just need you to pretend to be my girlfriend. We don't have to share a room or anything like that. I'm not going to try to get in your pants, but we'll have to look like we're together, you know what I mean?"

Fable is not sure she is making a wise decision but cannot turn the money down. They start out completely unsure about what they were doing. But once Fable meets his Dad and Step-mother and sees the tension, she begins to get curious. As the week goes on, Fable sees through the facade. Even when he will not share, she knows he has issues and wants to help him. They forge an unlikely friendship. But they have intense chemistry and are drawn to one another more and more. But at the same time they are terrified to admit it in case the other one is just playing at their fake boyfriend/girlfriend game. So they push and pull against each other. They move forward and retreat. And Drew has triggers that cause him to put up walls at various times.

And damn it, I know she sees right through me. That should freak me out. It freaks me out more that it doesn't seem to bother me at all.

Drew: The more I push you away, the more I want you to push back.

I loved how strong Fable was. She was supportive, non judgmental of Drew, and very caring. She pushed him slowly and tried to help him open up and heal. She was not afraid to be his advocate. Drew had so many layers and I loved seeing her peel them away. I figured out the big secrets myself, but that did not make them any less horrible. I loved their relationship, their intensity, their need and their emotional connection. Their story is definitely not over, and I cannot wait for Second Chance Boyfriend

Drew Callaghan has forever changed me, and the knowledge both invigorates and terrifies me.
He might be more trouble than he's worth but I don't think so. This man came into my life for some reason. Just as I came into his. Maybe we're supposed to help each other cope. Or give each other hope.

  1. I've been hearing a lot about this book! I need to read it soon. And by soon I mean in the next three months. My top TBR is getting ridiculous.
