When Drake started the night at his father’s campaign fundraiser, he never imagined he’d end it being conned into buying drugs on the West Side. Losing high-stakes poker has its consequences, but he’d repeatedly face them just to hear Lacey Douglas sing. Drake sees Lacey light up the stage, and he has to have her. But his intentions for being on her side of town turn out to be the reason he can’t.

Chicago native Lacey has dreams of the opera, but life has its obstacles. Lacey has come to know her hardships as part of living in the real world and accepts them fully. When Lacey meets the intense and invigorating Drake, a fire is lit inside her, unleashing those dreams again.

Two paths that should have never crossed prove to create the exact pairing the other needs. But when their worlds take time to catch up, everything they have is tested. Finding the space between the two sides that challenge them will be hard, but it’s the only place that will keep them together.

The Space Between is a new adult contemporary romance.

Book Trailer:
This is a story of Star Crossed Lovers. A modern Day Romeo and Juliet. They are from opposite worlds. Rich boy Drake never should have been at the place he first meets Lacey. He is from the affluent North Shore area and she is from the poor West Side. A chance meeting leads to an interesting situation and misunderstanding. They never thought they would see each other again, but life has a funny way of surprising you. The repercussions from their initial meeting, have some fall out for Drake. Next thing he knows, Lacey has been hired by his parents. And that just adds one more problem to the list of reasons they should not act on any attraction they have for one another.

Drake is the adopted son of a wealthy Politician and is of Korean descent. He is lost about his future, not sure what he wants to do, and does not really know anything about his biological roots or culture. He has never really been serious about a girl, but he knows that he wants Lacey. And he feels the need to be with her and protect her. Even if being with her causes more issues for her.

Lacey is a good girl. She is taking care of her very ill mother, paying the bills, and giving up her own dreams to do so. She cannot pass up the chance to work for the wealthy family. But she has no idea what is in store for her on the North Side. She is sweet, caring, beautiful, and a wonderful singer. But she is stuck on the West Side in real life instead of living her dreams. She is biracial and has had to deal with judgment based on her heritage and living situation.

She was exactly what I needed. Not just something different than what I was used to.  She was something of value. She was someone to be valued who had my complete respect.

We both had something only the other could give and I grew sick of fighting what I felt for him. Being together was right, and resisting it was stupid.

There are so many reasons for them not to be together. The fact that she is an employee, their friends, their enemies, their cultures, their social statuses, their financial situations, and even some danger from outside influences. But of course, they just cannot resist their attraction. They have hot chemistry and a connection that they cannot deny. They go through Hell trying to steal time together and face many challenges. And since their relationship developed very fast, under special circumstances, and with so many outside factors it was doomed to have some problems. There was drama, heartache, and losses. It seemed the world was against them. But are they strong enough to stay together and face all the people against them? Or will they let insecurity and pressure break them apart?

It was a story about finding meaning in life and going after what is important no matter the cost. It was refreshing to have lead characters of different ethnicities. You do not often read of an Asian leading man or even biracial heroine. It just added another layer of adversity to their relationship. I liked the characters and the fact that they grew throughout the book. Some of the supporting characters added positive influences to their relationship while others  helped to break them down. I really liked his sister Adele and the relationship she also formed with Lacey. I liked getting both points of view to understand the characters more.  It was a sweet romantic story with a good message about love, life, and tolerance.
