He is seeking absolution.

Flynn Caldwell has a hero complex and it’s one of the reasons he joined the New York City Fire Department. He has spent his entire professional career trying to atone for that one person he failed to save. Because, if he can do that, then perhaps he can be worthy of love again.

She is seeking escape.

Rowan Page’s life is nothing short of a disaster. Always immersed in trouble, she has only herself to depend on. She’s determined to pull herself out of this mess and make something of her life, despite the hard years she has lived on the streets of New York.

Together, they have the chance to become complete.

Flynn and Rowan’s worlds exist miles apart, but when a chance meeting brings them together, neither of them can deny the instant pull that connects them to each other. What starts as a tiny spark eventually flares into a fire so hot, it refuses to be extinguished.

Both are willing to jump feet first into the flames to see where it takes them, despite the risk of being burned.

AUTHOR’S TAKE ON FLYNN CALDWELL

Flynn Caldwell is a real hero! He works for the NYFD, a career choice he made after suffering a very tragic loss when he was younger. His experiences drive him to always want to save things, and his eyes are now set on Rowan Page.

Flynn is about the most genuine leading man I have ever written. He has nothing but good intentions, he’s filled with loyalty and he is adored by everyone. When I set out to write Flynn’s character, I wanted to create a hero that every man could aspire to be. It doesn’t mean he is without flaws… because he has them. But he is also someone that learns quickly and is always striving to become a better person. He will make you swoon… repetitively.

There goes Flynn...off to save another soul.

Flynn Caldwell has a hero complex. he could not save someone in his past, so now he saves whoever he can whether it be from fires or trying to fix broken women. But usually he rushes in head first and that just gets him burned.

He meets Rowan Page when he saves her and her dog from a perilous situation. But he just cannot resist continuing to help her. But she is fiercely independent, untrusting, strong, closed off and extremely private. Getting her to accept help is not an easy task. But Flynn is not taking no for an answer. She has a mysterious past, no support system, and trouble following her. And she has never met a man like Flynn. He pushes her, he challenges her, and he just will not let her get away with anything.

He has the ability to undo the entire basis of my existence for the past five years, and I don't think I'm ready to let go of the safety net that my walls provide me.

Flynn...oh my, Flynn just moved into my favorite Caldwell man spot. Did not expect he could do it since he is among such great company with his cousins, Nix and Linc.  But first of all, he wins points just for being a hot firefighter alpha hero. But then he is such a good, caring, and sweet guy. I seriously adored him. He is also funny, patient, kind, loyal, protective, generous, and oh so sexy. His devotion to his sister and family is admirable. He really wants to help Rowan.  But he also begins to feel an attraction and pull to her.

I've met a man so multi -dimensional, that he makes my head spin trying to keep up with all of his great qualities.

"You're too good to me, Flynn. I don't deserve it."
"You deserve the world, Rowan. The entire fucking world should belong to you."

They are cute, flirty, sarcastic and have good chemistry. Really hot, smoldering chemistry. And it builds slowly and they have a good basis of friendship underneath it.  But holy cow, Rowan could sure hold out. She drove me batty with her avoiding, fear, and trust issues. I understand why she had them, but after a while I just wanted to shake her!  My heart broke for Flynn so many times. He knew what he wanted but she fought him tooth and nail because of her fears and issues. It was definitely off and on again.

I thought Rowan was brought into my life because she was broken and needed to be fixed...at first. But over the past three days, I'm starting to realize something. She's not broken. Not in the slightest. Oh, she's dinged up a bit. And she's clearly had things that have damaged her. But whatever has happened in her past, it has created a person that is strong and independent. She's not broken...she's just a bit hard. And now I'm obsessed with softening her up.

It was about forgiveness, trust, and taking a chance. Rowan needed a lot of patience, love, and security. They both had traumas in their past that affected who they were in the present.  It was fun, humorous, sweet, and angsty. And there was also tragedy, drama, suspense, and danger  in the mix.

I love his family and friends. We got to see more of them all especially Nix and Emily as they plan their wedding. Danny and Ryan, Linc and Ever,  Renner and Cillian, and their families are all back. And her Bernese Mountain dog, Capone was a wonderful addition to the family. He was such a tie between Rowan and Flynn and really was a loveble character.

I love this series. I love these characters. They are loyal, devoted, and stand up for each other. They have such a strong sense of family and friendship. I enjoy the humor, emotions, background issues,  romance, steaminess, and inspirational stories that are intrinsic in each of these books. And one of  my favorite parts of this book was the fantastic epilogue bringing them all back together again in and letting us see how their stories have continued. This is supposed to be the last one of the series, but Sawyer seems to be wavering a bit so perhaps she will revisit in the future. But I will read other books she writes because she has such an easy flowing style and creates such lovable characters with humor, flaws, and deep emotions that grab your heart.

Thanks to Sawyer Bennett for providing an arc in exchange for an honest review.
