Fallen Navy SEAL and Titan Group's Delta recruit Trace Reeves wants nothing more than a one-night stand to forget that his twin brother was killed-in-action. But when his one-time fling becomes his high value target, the lines blur between her rescue mission and saving himself.

Trace Reeves was lost in a woman he only knew by first name. Mallory. There had to be more to her than the crush of a hot-as-hell kiss and the sweet smell of her hair as it dangled around him. Her mix of daring and confidence had left him lust drunk. Then she batted those eyes, and he could’ve sworn the badass-babe act was a front for something so much deeper. He just couldn’t put his finger on it.
Well, actually, his fingers were all over it. All over her—and what a rockin’ body.
She was the perfect way to escape after his day stuck at Landstuhl. He’d been nosing around the medical center near Ramstein Air Base. Seeing wounded survivors served as a constant reminder that he continued to fail the only person who mattered—his brother in blood and in arms. His twin turned soldier turned fallen comrade. Heart racing, he pinched his eyes closed, ordering his stomach to calm. It’d been weeks, but time felt like it had stopped. So much anger lived within him, and he couldn’t let it go.
Tonight, drowning the night in beer had been the plan. It made him forget about the fruitless questioning of wounded, shell-shocked soldiers that may’ve seen something after his brother’s attack. Screw it. He’d learned crap and had needed a drink—and a woman. Then, he’d had both.

So much anger lived within him, and he couldn't let it go.

Trace Reeves, the newest recruit to Delta Team is fighting demons. They haunt him, cause him feelings of guilt and loss, and getting retribution has taken over his life. Delta Team is his last chance to save his career since he has gone a bit rogue. He is a man on a mission. He gets antsy in one place and is constantly searching for answers to get some peace.

Delta was a ghost team. They weren't meant to traipse into war rooms. They received their orders wherever they were, appeared, did their work, and disappeared. The defined "off the grid," melting into their own shadows when they were done with a job.

Marlena McCloud is highly intelligent and her job has put her in danger. She is sassy and strong, but also insecure,  feels unworthy, and tends to avoid or run when things get complicated. She's got her own issues causing stress and danger.

They shared one night of passion, but he did not see her again until she became part of a mission. They were forced to work together and trust in an intense situation.

Her one-night stand was coming back to haunt her, and it did so in the shape of a jungle-slaying white knight.

But after it all dies down, can they give each other some of what the other needs? He needs to calm his anxiety, demons, and connect. She needs to feel wanted and gain confidence. They seem all wrong, but feel all right. Even though they are both skittish, they cannot help but reach out.  But they are both volatile, insecure, broken and terrified of something more.

I loved Trace. He was so hurt, lost, and damaged. He needed something  to anchor him and distract from his ongoing pain. At one point it was his mission that kept him going, but Marlena started to fill the void instead. He was struggling to come to terms with loss, find direction, and move on. She challenged him and gave him something to care for and protect.

"She's the only one that can tame my demons."

And she had such feelings of worthlessness and insecurity that it dampened her true personality and spirit. He pushed her to find herself, be more confident, and face her own issues. And she was kick ass in her own way. I enjoyed their chemistry, rapport, connection, and acceptance or each other.

I love the Titan team and getting some cameos from some team favorites. And I am looking forward to more with the guys of Delta Team: Ryder, Luke, Javier, and Colin. The Titan series is full of intensity, suspense, danger, humor, sweetness, and romance. The characters are well developed, have good chemistry and camraderie, and the plot lines are interesting and intriguing. I think she can explore even more with the Delta Team since they are even more of a ghost team than Team Titan.
And they are a newer and younger team so probably prone to more issues and drama.

This was a novella, but it packed a lot in and still  felt like a full, complete story from beginning to end. I was invested from page one and was happy to see an epilogue at the end.

I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Trace is a new member of Titan’s Delta team. Off the grid, Trace works with Delta team to accomplish the mission, then he spends his down time tracking what’s left of his brother. Barely hanging on to reality, he is filled with guilt and grief that is crushing him.

He is shocked to see that the target of Delta team’s latest mission is the one night stand he never expected to see again. Marlena seems to be no more than a college co-ed, but as it turns out there is something about her that has painted a target on her back and those who want her will resort to nefarious means to get what they want from her.

While Trace deals with his own demons, Marlena is struggling with feelings of self-worth. Her insecurities cause her to run when she is unsure of herself. But as she continues to run, she learns that running isn't solving anything and must learn to face her fears about herself and those around her.

This story was filled with equal parts action and suspense, and chemistry and heat. For being a novella, Delta: Retribution reads like a novel. From start to finish, it is filled with so much detail, so many intertwined threads that it has hard to believe it wasn’t a full length story. There isn’t a wasted moment throughout, but the story is told in such a way that I was surprised there was so much packed in such a short tale.

As much as I loved reading Cristin’s Titan series and watching those alpha males find their matches, I think this Delta group promises to be just as entertaining, if not more so. These men are not the settling type, and there is bound to be growing pains and discomfort along the way. *rub hands together while grinning maniacally*
