Jackie Davenport will try anything once, especially in the bedroom. Anything except falling in love. She lives a carefree existence packed full of fun, but free from emotional entanglements and that’s just how she wants to keep it. When she meets the new police officer in town, she’s unable to deny the connection between them. His over confidence and bullish ways grate on her…still she can’t help but find herself falling into his bed AND falling for him.
Jamie McTavish is man enough to admit that he probably didn’t make the best first impression when he met the 911 Operator. That doesn’t mean there isn’t still sizzling sexual tension between them. He’s a man of action and he’s not content to sit on the sidelines until Jackie works out her issues. But trying to tame this tiger might be too big of a challenge for even him.
Jackie Davenport and Jamie McTavish riled each other the moment they met and in each subsequent encounter it got even worse. The sexual tension and chemistry is unavoidable. But while Jamie is determined to have her, Jackie is equally as determined that he is not. She has her personal set of rules. She doesn't do entanglements, emotions, or cops.
Jamie is intense, determined, confident, and pushy. He knows what he wants and has every intention of getting it not matter how much she resists. She's got up walls and defenses, but he starts to break them down bit by bit.
Jamie has many side to him: dominant but tender, stubborn but sweet, bossy and intuitive. But he has his hands full trying to slay her demons. Her fears have paralyzed her and ended up a self fulfilling prophecy of being alone. She is independent, sassy, and strong willed. She wants safety and security, but also craves passion and fun. But she is terrified of taking a risk and losing.
Can she learn to trust and take a leap of faith that Jamie will be there to catch her?
This was a sweet, sexy fast-paced novella. There was humor mixed in with the emotional situations and sexual tension. I liked the characters despite Jackie having some significant issues. I loved Jamie and his alpha ways. He had his own agenda but also had patience and understanding. They had fun banter and serious sexual tension and chemistry. It was told in dual points of view letting us see all their wants, needs, and fears.
It also introduced her best friend Chloe who is the heroine in Indiscretion serials. But this happens before Indiscretion so can be read as a stand alone, but it made me interested enough to purchase the 4 part Indiscretion box set that is only 3.99.

Jackie lives a free, fun, no-strings kind of life. A 911 operator, her one rule about dating, other than she doesn’t do relationships, is that she doesn’t date first-responders. Losing her father in the line of duty has scared her and even over a decade later she can’t forget the way her life changed that day.
Jamie is new in town and doesn’t know the reputation or family history of the woman he finds stranded on the side of the road. After majorly flubbing that interaction, he finds himself drawn to the strong, fiercely stubborn woman the more he learns about her.
I loved watching these two as they opened up -- both have reasons for being in (or staying in) Bar Harbor, and the emotions run high when they begin to share. There is an instant chemistry between them, and while things moved quickly, it never felt rushed. The chemistry between them is evident from their very first meeting and only grew despite Jackie’s hesitancy to start anything with the cop.
The only thing that really held me up on this story was Jamie’s name. He happens to share his full name with an alias of one of my all time favorite fictional men, and I had a very difficult time making this Jamie look like the sandy-haired, grey-green eyed man he is described as. So as far as hang-ups go, this is rather minor.

For a novella, this was surprisingly detailed. The story itself moved very quickly, but the characters held a depth I don’t usually feel when reading shorter stories like this. It was fun, sexy, and reached deeper than I was expecting to make it an entertaining, fast read.
