An enemies to lovers, sports romance from #1 Amazon, WSJ and USA Today bestselling author Devney Perry.

The world loves Maverick Houston. Me? I’ve hated him since we were ten.

It’s not exactly easy to escape your childhood nemesis when your parents are best friends who live on the same block. Through countless vacations, parties and holidays, Maverick and I have spent the past decade trading insults.

Until that family dinner when his mother tells us she’s dying. When she asks us to forget the past and start fresh. That’s how I found myself on a date with the Treasure State Wildcats football star. The campus playboy. The boy I kissed when I was three. The man who is the bane of my existence.

He’s arrogant. He’s blunt. He’s too handsome for his own good. But if he has a single, redeeming merit, the guy sure does love his mom. And that’s why I started fake dating Maverick Houston. That’s why I made him a proposition of my own. That’s how this sham of a relationship ruined my life.

The world loves Maverick Houston. Me? I hate that he made me love him too.

Maverick and Stevie have known each other their entire lives. Their parents are best friends; they were best friends till they were 10. But they’ve been enemies since. Stevie is smart, stubborn, sassy, and doesn’t put up with crap. She sees Maverick as a manwhore who’s not serious about anything except maybe football. And no matter what he does he’s never been able to make Stevie his friend again. And he’s dealing with his mother‘s illness, which made him act out even more, but now they’re all struggling harder because it’s getting worse.

He’s a college football player. She just finished her college career of a volleyball player and is wanting to take over her dad‘s business, but somehow Maverick has become involved in that too, and she resents it.

In an effort to make his ill mom happy, they make a deal to fake date. But in the process, they begin to find that they do enjoy spending time together again. And she does feel safe enough with him to ask for a big favor. Then one kiss totally shatters their minds and makes the situation even more complicated and interesting.

This is a childhood-best-friends-to-enemies-to-fake dating-to-lovers with virgin sex lessons and sports romance set in a small college town. And both characters are dealing with some decisions and emotional situations.

I will admit it took me a bit to warm up to these two as a couple. Sometimes enemies-to-lovers is just not my jam, so that might’ve been it. They were both so stubborn and had such strong opinions about the other. But as they navigated through their transitions to something different and real, I did become more attached to them.

The background story is hard, and I truly did feel for both Maverick and Stevie, and how it affected them and their fragile new relationship. Maverick’s mental health is a significant part of the story based on what he is going through in his life. And even though Stevie wanted to be there, it didn’t always mean he was willing to ask or accept help. So they do have challenges, but I liked how much they valued each other. They had such a history with growing up together and their families being so intertwined that it made the depth of their relationship that much stronger.

And this one definitely brought all the epilogues we could need for this series since this is the last book.

Maverick and Stevie grew up together, the children of best friends who did everything together. But their teenage years put some distance between them and their friendship has turned into a bit of a frenemy situation. As her dying wish, Maverick’s mom announces she wants them to date and not wanting to disappoint her as they watch cancer slowly take her from them, they concede. But what starts out as fake chips away at the walls they’ve erected between them and leaves them each questioning how they fell and what to do next.

I knew this was going to be an emotional ride, but I was not prepared for how much parts of this journey were going to gut me. My heart broke for Maverick and his family as they watched their matriarch battle her cancer. When Maverick hit his rock bottom I was devastated right along with him and couldn’t help but hope he would find a way to claw out of his pain, especially if he could realize what he felt for Stevie was not just for show.

At the same time those pieces had me in an emotional chokehold, there was something about the beginning that had me struggling to stay in the book (until the emotions took over, that is), and I think it had to do with the coldness that Stevie and Maverick shot at each other before their fake dating started. But once that fake dating was suggested, I was all in on this couple.

Merit is a best friends-to-enemies-to lovers story over the top of some pretty emotional, heavy topics. It was fun to return to the Treasure State world, especially since series readers have seen bits and pieces of this story in the wings of previous books. I love the way this series' timeline overlaps each other and happens over time but also at the same time in places. Seeing old favorite couples in the future was another nice touch at the end of this. I love the way all these stories weave together.

 Our 4.5+ sar Reviews

Football star. Single dad. And once, a long time ago, mine.

I’ve spent the better part of a decade forgetting Ford Ellis. If he had just stayed away from Montana, I might have erased the memory of his striking blue eyes and rugged smile forever. Avoiding him was easy when the only place I saw his face was on ESPN—and a remote control could fix that problem.

Except my boss just hired Ford as the new head coach for the Treasure State Wildcats. Not only will I be stuck watching him on the sidelines this season, but avoiding him will be impossible now that we’re working together.

Maybe I haven’t forgotten Ford. Maybe I still dream about what we might have been. Maybe he hasn’t forgotten me either.

Except those maybes won’t change the fact that we were never meant to be. Maybe he was mine once. But as of today, the only thing I’ll be calling Ford Ellis is Coach.

Our 4-4.5 star reviews

A forbidden, small town, sports romance from Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author Devney Perry.

A coach. A student. The rules were concrete. We broke them anyway.

The night I met Toren Greely was the night I learned how to lie. He was a Treasure State football coach. I was the star of the volleyball team. Coaches and students were forbidden. My future was on the line, so I told myself it was only one night.

That was the first lie. They got easier to tell after that. The lines blurred. The boundaries shifted. Our relationship became a game of its own.

A chaste smile. A knowing glance. A veiled touch or a hushed kiss. We hid in plain sight. We were invincible. Or so we thought. Neither of us saw the blitz coming until it was too late.

Game over. The night I left Toren Greely was the night I learned how to lose.

An accidental pregnancy, small town, sports romance from Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author, Devney Perry.

Pregnant. Homeless. Broke. Not what I’d expected for my senior year in college. Neither was Rush Ramsey.

We met the day I went camping and got stranded on the side of a gravel road. I didn’t believe in white knights who freed damsels in distress. Life had taught me that if something bad could happen, it probably would. The only person who would save me was me.

But Rush Ramsey rescued me that day. He was sweet and kind and charming. He made a dark, starry night a little less lonely.

I should have realized it was too good to be true. That an incredible night of passion would come with consequences. That the bad luck rollercoaster I’d been riding for twenty-one years wasn’t ready to stop.

Because Rush Ramsey, Treasure State University’s most eligible bachelor and quarterback extraordinaire, just got me pregnant.
