A forbidden, small town, sports romance from Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author Devney Perry.

A coach. A student. The rules were concrete. We broke them anyway.

The night I met Toren Greely was the night I learned how to lie. He was a Treasure State football coach. I was the star of the volleyball team. Coaches and students were forbidden. My future was on the line, so I told myself it was only one night.

That was the first lie. They got easier to tell after that. The lines blurred. The boundaries shifted. Our relationship became a game of its own.

A chaste smile. A knowing glance. A veiled touch or a hushed kiss. We hid in plain sight. We were invincible. Or so we thought. Neither of us saw the blitz coming until it was too late.

Game over. The night I left Toren Greely was the night I learned how to lose.

An unexpected meeting at a party.
One unforgettable night of intense passion.
The beginning of something forbidden they seem powerless to stop.

The Treasure State Wildcats football team is recovering from a scandal with their previous head coach. Coach Toren Greely is glad that his old friend is joining their team as the new head coach and hopes for the start of a winning season. So the last thing Toren should be doing is causing any other issues for the staff or team.

So when he finds out that the girl he is obsessing over is a new Senior volleyball player at the school, it shocks and horrifies him.

Jennsyn Bell left her prestigious school behind and moved to Montana to get some space from her own issues and gossip She just needs to focus on volleyball and finishing her senior year and figuring out her life. She is weighed down by family expectations, pressure, and fear of the future. And now she cannot seem to get a certain football coach off her mind or stay away from him. She does not trust anyone but for some reason, she knows she can trust Toren, but she is not supposed to.

And no matter how many times Toren says goodbye to her, he cannot seem to get her out from under his skin either.

This is a forbidden, age-gap, college coach-student secret romance. I adored Toren. He is such a good guy and wants to do the right thing, but she feels so right in his life. He is sweet, protective, loyal, and caring. She is more mature than others her age and is lost in her own transition but Toren seems to anchor and support her like no one else has. I felt so bad for these two since they really were well-matched and had wonderful chemistry, but they were in a situation that could cause another scandal and have the potential for them to both lose their standing in the school.

This follows the same timeline as Coach so Ford and Millie's secret romance is going on at the same time. And also teases Rush's story and another one possibly for some other players. It also focused on Toren's aunt and cousins and I loved how he took care of them.
Toren is a local, born and raised in Mission and this is where he wants to call home forever. At 33, he is starting to feel like he wants something different, a quieter life than the partying, single coach persona he is now known as. At his 4th of July Party (which he swears will be his last) he meets a stranger who captivates his interest and his night. He knows she lives somewhere in the neighborhood, and though he gets her number at the end of the night he doesn’t jump right to calling her.

Fast forward to the start of the practice season, and he realizes his mystery Jennsyn is none other than the volleyball team’s new star senior. A student. Absolutely off limits for both of them. Jennsyn is a recent transfer, hence his ignorance about her identity, and regularly surprises him with her maturity. She is dealing with trying to fit in on a new team, but is mistrustful of her teammates. In addition there is pressure from her mother, also a competitive volleyball personality.

They work sooo hard throughout a good deal of the book to stay safe and fight the feelings both are feeling. The angst was real as Jennsyn sneaks over as often as she can and says goodbye early each morning. But there’s only so much sneaking around that’s possible with 2 roommates and as often as they run into each other on campus.

There is plenty of sports talk going on in the background, and is a big side plot for Jennsyn, but it isn’t heavily technical when it comes to sports. I don’t normally go in for student/teacher type tropes and while this isn’t exactly that I was a little hesitant before I started. Let’s just say my hesitation left quickly as these two caught my heart. Jennsyn is not your average college senior and as a result of the pressures she is facing, calculates her moves very carefully. I loved returning to Treasure State and this world. Blitz takes place overlapping Coach, but both stand alone really nicely. I can’t wait to return again to read Rush’s story.

Football star. Single dad. And once, a long time ago, mine.

I’ve spent the better part of a decade forgetting Ford Ellis. If he had just stayed away from Montana, I might have erased the memory of his striking blue eyes and rugged smile forever. Avoiding him was easy when the only place I saw his face was on ESPN—and a remote control could fix that problem.

Except my boss just hired Ford as the new head coach for the Treasure State Wildcats. Not only will I be stuck watching him on the sidelines this season, but avoiding him will be impossible now that we’re working together.

Maybe I haven’t forgotten Ford. Maybe I still dream about what we might have been. Maybe he hasn’t forgotten me either.

Except those maybes won’t change the fact that we were never meant to be. Maybe he was mine once. But as of today, the only thing I’ll be calling Ford Ellis is Coach.

Pregnant. Homeless. Broke. Not what I’d expected for my senior year in college. Neither was Rush Ramsey.

We met the day I went camping and got stranded on the side of a gravel road. I didn’t believe in white knights who freed damsels in distress. Life had taught me that if something bad could happen, it probably would. The only person who would save me was me.

But Rush Ramsey rescued me that day. He was sweet and kind and charming. He made a dark, starry night a little less lonely.

I should have realized it was too good to be true. That an incredible night of passion would come with consequences. That the bad luck rollercoaster I’d been riding for twenty-one years wasn’t ready to stop.

Because Rush Ramsey, Treasure State University’s most eligible bachelor and quarterback extraordinaire, just got me pregnant.
