Priscilla Story, the self-proclaimed “wild child” of the straight-laced Story clan, has always had a knack for getting herself trouble. Except this time, her “growing problem” is going to require a Daddy sooner than later…or she can kiss her inheritance good-bye.
Shane Olson, who previously dated Priscilla’s sister, Margaret, isn’t opposed to a marriage of convenience for the sake of furthering his business interests, but Priscilla – with her wild ways – is just about the last woman he’d choose to marry.
In order to make the marriage look convincing, they end up having to spend more time together than they’d originally planned. When rolling stone, Priscilla, who lives by the seat of her muu-muu, and seriously-ambitious Shane, who’s had his whole life planned since he was eleven, start falling for each other, it’s going to take a whole lot of compromise for this Bohemian and her Businessman to find their happily ever after.
The Story Sisters are all unique and opinionated, but would never be what their father wanted--male offspring. So no matter how hard they try, they ultimately fail to gain his favor, love, and acceptance.
While her other sisters, Alice, Elizabeth, Margaret, and Jane are all driven, highly intelligent, work-a-holics, Priscilla is the oddball. She is artsy, impulsive, adventurous, and free-spirited. She left home to explore the world and does not fit in with the rigid and opulent lifestyle she was born into. But she is now back home with no man in her life, no job, no prospects, and a big secret.
Shane Olson works for their father. And his boss has already been hinting for Shane to marry her sister, Margaret, to further his career. But as already mentioned, the Story girls have minds of their own. And Priscilla takes the opportunity to come up with a plan of her own.
Basically Shane and Priscilla find themselves in a situation where a marriage of convenience might solve all of their problems...or perhaps it could stir up new ones. They've always had chemistry, but they are opposites. Like most people, Shane never really took Priscilla seriously. He's buttoned up. competitive, and ambitious. He has focused solely on making it in the business world, so relationships have not been part of his plan. She seems flighty and unpredictable, and her life is messy. But the more time the spend together, the more they begin to appreciate the other. In a world where neither fully fit in, they can accept each other.
I actually loved Priscilla and Shane together. Their differences made them dynamic. Their chemistry was palpable. They helped anchor, balance, challenge, and support the other. It was definitely insta-lust and insta-lovey, but hot and heartfelt too. There is something about this delightful series and spin-offs that just suck you in, make you love the characters, and leave you with a big smile on your face. This one was a sweet, sexy, swoony, empowering story of opposites and a marriage of convenience.
I enjoyed returning to Blueberry Lane and learning more about this family. I can't say I am too fond of the cold, strong-willed Story sisters yet, other than Margaret, so they will have to work in their books to win me over. They could definitely use some lightening up and taming. Up next is Alice in The Director and the Don Juan and her story was teased just a bit.
I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.
The Story sisters have a lot of tension in their relationships between each other. Priscilla may have been the black sheep of the family, but only because she refused to bend and fit the mold she was expected to fill.
Priscilla Story has always marched to the beat of her own drum. Rebelling from an early age, she has little direction in her life other than to find adventure. But her latest adventure and plans are crushed and she is forced to return to Blueberry Lane despite grand plans to live in Paris. First up on the list of things she needs to do: find a husband, and quick.
Shane Olson knows that the only way he is going to get the promotion he has worked for is to marry a Story sister. He dated Margaret and thought they would make a good match, but she turned him down. Not opposed to a marriage simply for convenience, he steps in when Priscilla schemes to get them what they both want, though Priscilla is the opposite of his ideal woman.
But it doesn’t take long for things to heat up between them, especially as Priscilla has long taken joy in ruffling Shane’s well planned feathers. And Shane knew she was baiting him, but couldn’t resist her wild streak, even as it wasn’t the long term
I loved watching these two battle it out. Their opposing outlooks often mean they take different directions to reach the same point. I hadn’t been a huge fan of Shane’s during Crazy for Cameron. Seeing the proposal scene only from Margaret’s eyes meant he came off as a complete brown-noser and loyal sheep of her father. Reading that scene again, but through his own eyes, gave me a completely different perspective both on the events and Shane as a character, and in that moment I was hooked on the story: waiting for Priscilla to throw a wrench in his perfectly concocted plans. As Shane and his P spent more time together I loved watching them together, even before they had things figured out.
The baby aspect added tension to the timeline. I kept waiting for the fallout from all the decisions along the way and was not disappointed when sparks started flying. Both as part of Priscilla’s inheritance and as part of the relationship building with Shane, I couldn’t help but wait for that particular part of the story to become an issue: whether it was discovered before Priscilla was ready or not.
Getting to know the Story patriarch a little more, it is becoming clear why so many of his daughters are as straight-laced as they are, though as time continues on I get the feeling each woman is going to find the need to rebel in her own way. Margaret and Priscilla have had their turn, and Alice is next with The Director and the Don Juan. Getting a teaser of her set-up at the end of this book, I look forward to seeing more from this family.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katy Regnery started her writing career by enrolling in a short story class in January 2012. One year later, she signed her first contract and Katy’s first novel was published in September 2013.
Twenty-five books later, Katy claims authorship of the multi-titled, New York Times and USA Today Blueberry Lane Series, which follows the English, Winslow, Rousseau, Story, and Ambler families of Philadelphia; the six-book, bestselling ~a modern fairytale~ series; and several other standalone novels and novellas.
Katy’s first modern fairytale romance, The Vixen and the Vet, was nominated for a RITA® in 2015 and won the 2015 Kindle Book Award for romance. Katy lives in the relative wilds of northern Fairfield County, Connecticut, where her writing room looks out at the woods, and her husband, two young children, two dogs, and one Blue Tonkinese kitten create just enough cheerful chaos to remind her that the very best love stories begin at home.
