You know the universe is trying to tell you something when you get struck by lightning, but only after getting hit on by the elderly, almost getting ran over by a semi, and running into the one who got away. 

Why do they say it like that anyway? 

Like I accidentally lost her when she was the one that got in the car with my best friend and left me. 

The day after I proposed. 

We were eighteen. 

I wanted forever. 

She didn't. 

It's been ten years. 

I tried to move on, tried to get married, had that same wedding crashed by my now best friend who says the only way for me to stop pissing off the universe, is to gain closure with the one woman I can't forget. 

So I do it. 

I embark on a journey down memory lane that not only lands me in prison but on the receiving end of a fist fight in front of the entire town, this naturally happens after drunken pool sex, climbing the same girls window, and getting threatened at gunpoint by her father.

To say the universe is trying to tell me something anything, is a giant understatement. 

I just hope I survive the message. 

And then, I hope I survive her--again.

Maddy Summers, the girl that rejected and left Jason Caro ten years ago is back in town and riling him up again. She was his best friend and first love. But the town might not be big enough for the both of them since their unresolved emotions and anger are just getting more and more explosive. 

And when all of the rational girls are away, and only their husbands, Colt, Reid, and crazy Max are available for advice on dealing with her,  a plan is formed. But plans spearheaded by Max are not usually smart or safe. 

Poor  Jason. His life has been one big mess since Maddy left him with a broken heart and hen he has been cursed by subsequent crazy exes, injuries, and accidents. He never knows when he is going to get blindsided by the universe or become of the victim of one of Max's brilliant ideas. 

But making friends with the ex-love/enemy, getting closure and trying to move on seems like a fair plan. Spend the weekend following their memories and rekindling friendship. When Max makes sense it is even scarier.  And bring his friends' wives back into the equation and more adventures and it is pure chaos. 

These characters seriously make my head spin. My brain is tired. They are so over the top and crazy, especially Max. But at the same time, I am attached to them and their brand of crazy. And I just wanted Jason to finally make the right choices when it came to Maddy. He had good intentions a lot of the time, but was a master at doing the wrong thing at the wrong time. And she made her share of mistakes too.  I just wanted to smack sense into both of them at times or lock them in a room til they communicated effectively. They had the potential to be so good together, but had so many unresolved feelings and past pain between them...and some outside interference.

This is a fast-paced, sometimes insane, rom-com, second-chance love story. It has the big personalities, wacky interludes, and big gestures that this series is known for. And we finally get to see poor, harassed, good guy Jason find what he has been missing. He just has to get over himself, his past, and survive his friends long enough to take his chance. And of course figure out if  the universe for or against this union...

Jason finally gets his story in Consequence of Rejection. Prone to accidents and injury, Jason has been a beloved side character in the Consequences series, but maybe it’s time for his luck to change. When his first love comes back into his life, his world turns upside down again.

Maddy is back in town, 10 years after leaving Jason and their hometown the day after he proposed at their graduation. She was his first love and broke his heart with her leaving. After all the plans they made, she didn’t want the same things he did after all.

Now that she’s back, Jason’s friends think he needs closure with her in order for him to move on and find The One. But plans created by Max seldom run smoothly, and Max seems to enjoy keeping Jason on his toes.

After seeing Jason’s brand of bad luck with women (and life in general) through the first three books in the series, it was great to meet the one who broke his heart. I found Maddy to be independent and sweet. Their history makes things tense between them though, especially as they are both living in the homes they grew up in, right across the street from each other. There is a lot of explanation needed, but the hurt between them keeps either from offering any vulnerability.

This series is established as a silly, slapstick oriented rom-com and Rejection is no exception. I found the antics to be both hilarious and over the top. I am so glad Jason finally got his story though, especially because of all the headaches he faced while his friends found their versions of the One -- it was definitely Jason’s turn!
