After years of working in the family business, Arcadia “Ace” Jones has become a renowned car thief. Trained from a tender age, it’s the only life she’s ever known. Longing for a future that doesn’t hold the promise of prison, she makes the decision to go straight and earn an honest living.

But the Marchetti Organisation won’t accept her retirement, forcing her to complete a job so big it’s almost impossible. She’s on a tight deadline but an irritating biker dude keeps thwarting her attempts to deliver.

Kelly Daniels likes to tinker with bikes and cars. He’s content with operating the car restoration business he owns alongside his partners, until an annoying little thief manages to steal a Dodge Charger right out from under his nose.He gets pulled into her treacherous scheme and they form an unlikely bond. When it becomes a race against the clock to pull off the heist of the century or end up behind bars, Ace and Kelly realise they have more to lose than their freedom—each other.

Kelly Daniels is part of the Sentinels MC club and mechanic. He had a rough life and is still angry, bitter, and affected by his past. He is rough around the edges, but smart. He is a bit reckless and impulsive. He has learned not to count on anyone but his MC brothers.

Arcadia "Ace" Jones is intelligent, sassy, tough, and can steal a car undetected. She comes from a long line of thieves, but is trying hard to go clean. But that is not as easy as she hopes. She has been living on the edge for so long, but wants to be safe and more settled. She has sworn enemies and is also dealing with a devil. She is stuck in a bad situation and trying hard to come out of unscathed and to keep those she cares about safe.

Kelly and Ace sizzle and spark. They have chemistry. Neither really has the time or lifestyle for more than a quick romp, but both are smart enough to know that something feels different. They get under each other's skin. They both ride the line between  bad and good. Both of their worlds are tinged with darkness and danger, and theirs do not mesh that well. Things from their pasts complicate the situation. And as they get deeper, it is hard to tell if there is more going on under the surface. Trust is hard won and fragile.

They both have some secrets, are their hidden agendas as well?
Are they working for each other or against each other?

This is an action-packed, romantic suspense novel with steam, emotion, humor, and surprises. I enjoyed getting dual points of view. Ace was a very strong and unique heroine. She was brave, feisty, and had mad skills. Kelly took me a bit longer to get attached to (partially due to the fact that I adore his brother Casey from Give Me Grace so I would compare them and get angry if Kelly copped attitude with him). But Kelly really grew on me with his no-nonsense attitude, protectiveness, and patience with her. He thought he was damaged and heartless, but she brought out a different side to him. They had fun banter and sharp senses of humor. I loved seeing their connection build, them becoming more vulnerable with each other, and stronger together. And finding some hope, purpose, and light in each other that they both needed even though it also scared them.

Kate McCarthy always writes books with strong main and side characters, in depth world building, twists and surprises, and can really pull out the feels. The families and friend groups were dynamic and added tension, drama, and humor to the story.
I particularly liked her feisty hacker friend, Echo, and his friend, Luke Fox. And I am always thrilled to see more of the Give Me series gang. But this does stand alone well as the start of a new series. I am looking forward to the next installment.

Arcadia “Ace” Jones knows cars -- how to drive them and how to steal them. But she can’t steal cars forever and wants out. The only problem is that she can’t get out from under the Marchetti organization without one more dangerous set of thefts, otherwise the people she loves are in danger.

Kelly Daniels is building a life he enjoys working on cars in his new rehab shop. He has a fragile, strained relationship with his brother and is holding on to a lot of pain from his past. When the girl he’s been chasing steals a car right out from under him, he is not only further intrigued by the little thief, he is pulled into her operation.

These two have a chemistry that knocks the unshakable thief off her game. I loved watching as Ace tried to rationalize how she felt around Kelly, and her friend’s commentary on the events only furthered my entertainment of the scenes.

There were times I felt like there was too much going on -- there are so many secrets, so many threads and different conflicts that at times I just wanted to story simplified a little. And one particular aspect of the story that probably should have been a surprise was something I had guessed almost from the beginning. But at the same time, the threat hanging over Ace’s head kept me turning pages to find out how she would resolve her issues.

This was a good tie in with the Give Me series, though it stands alone nearly completely. Kelly and his brother, Casey (Give Me Grace), have a contentious relationship and so their stories are not completely tied together. What backstory they share is fully explained in The Thief. I enjoyed the side characters immensely -- Echo and Racer, particularly, stole the scene on several occasions and added an aspect of humor to the story.

My breath catches. This was only supposed to be about wild sex with a hot, irresistible man. I should have known. The moment he walked inside Fix I knew he was a paradox. A puzzle, one I played with, slowly fitting all the broken pieces together until the whole picture now sits before me, a picture so beautiful it steals my breath.
“Kelly.” He watches me, his face close to mine. “You were never meant to get involved. It’s not your fight.”
He draws back like I’ve slapped him the face.
I fumble for his hand, grabbing it before he can withdraw any further. “It’s always been my fight. I don’t have friends. I don’t have boyfriends. I don’t sleep around. I’ve always kept people at arms-length because I don’t live a life where I can answer the kinds of questions they ask of me. Then you came along and I thought maybe this once it would be nice, real fucking nice to pretend I could have something beautiful for myself. Only you weren’t what I expected. You pissed me off. You made me laugh and you made me ache, and you made me want you so damn much. You did all that and now I can’t imagine how I lived a life without you in it. You give so much of yourself without even realising it. Even now you’re taking my fight and making it your own, and I hate myself for being so selfish and letting you.”
