(Book One in the Rush Series duet)
Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward
Release date  April 9, 2018

How to kick off a great summer in the Hamptons:

Snag a gorgeous rental on the beach. Check.

Get a job at a trendy summer haunt. Check.

How to screw up a great summer in the Hamptons:

Fall for the one guy with a dark leather jacket, scruff on his face, and intense eyes that doesn’t fit in with the rest of the tony looking crowd. A guy you can’t have when you’ll be leaving at the end of the season.

Check. Check. Check.

I should add—especially when the guy is your sexy, tattooed God of a boss.

Especially when he not only owns your place of employment but inherited half of the town.

Especially when he’s mean to you.

Or so I thought.

Until one night when he demanded I get in his car so he could drive me home because he didn’t want me walking in the dark.

That was sort of how it all started with Rush.

And then little by little, some of the walls of this hardass man started to come down.

I never expected that the two of us, seemingly opposites from the outside, would grow so close.

I wasn't supposed to fall for the rebel heir, especially when he made it clear he didn’t want to cross the line with me.

As the temperature turned cooler, the nights became hotter. My summer became a lot more interesting—and complicated.

All good things must come to an end, right?

Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

Rebel Heir is the first book in the Rush Series Duet. Book Two, Rebel Heart, will release six weeks later on May, 22, 2018.

Gia Mirabelli is a temporary resident of the Hamptoms and an author struggling for inspiration. When she meets Rush it is definitely not love at first sight. He is handsome, but also rude, controlling, and intimidating. But she is not scared of him so throws just enough sass and challenge his way to peak his interest. Thus begins the often changing dynamics between these two.

They make each other crazy in so many ways and it is fun to watch...from stand offs, flirty and witty banter, companionship, sexual tension, fear, unresolved feelings, to taking a risk. They push, challenge, and scare the crap out of each other. It's a roller coaster of need, jealousy, resistance, fear, avoidance, boundaries, confusion, and resignation that they can't keep going on the way they are.

They already seem like opposites and come from two different worlds and financial circumstances. But they also look at the future differently. She is the romantic who wants the fairy tale. He is the more cynical one that usually does not get close enough to have a relationship. He has kept himself guarded and has some deep rooted fears. They are a hot mess, but I actually loved them together.

These two characters could be so much fun but frustrating too. Rush really grew on me as he started out as an a**, but turned awesome. He had a lot of his own baggage to deal with, but he also had a good heart and protective instincts. And Gia could see past his hard exterior and push him. I loved their baby steps in trying to figure out how to make themselves happy and deal with what was going on in their lives. Although their forward momentum was often set back due to circumstances, and their lives seemed to be getting more and more complicated.

This is part one of a duet so I knew going in that there was bound to be some heart stopping moment at the end that would leave me wanting book two, Rebel Heart right away. And there was...but I was prepared for it (and had figured it out), but it did not stop me from enjoying this one. I thought the characters were well developed and there was angst, drama, and surprises that kept it interesting. It was addictive, witty,  and full of fun banter and feels.  And I am anxious to see where the rest of the story takes them.

Gia is the Hamptons for the summer, hoping to find inspiration for the novel she is supposed to be writing. The Hamptons aren’t really her speed, but trying to make it as a full time writer is a good reason to change her scenery and get out of the city for a while.

Rush is about as opposite of Gia as possible. He is hard and unyielding. His employees are a little bit scared of him. When he offers Gia a ride home one night, they begin building a deeper relationship and he lets her in just a little bit. But it’s been a long time since he let anyone close, and there are some things they will have to overcome, even if they are just in this for some fun.

They fight. They laugh. They challenge each other. Gia isn’t a fan of his behavior when she meets him and isn’t afraid to tell him so. He isn’t used to people calling him on his bluntness and she fascinates him. I wasn’t sure I would love these two in the beginning. He is rude and brash with little concern for others, while she sees the world with rosy glasses. But it didn’t take long before I fell in love with both of them, to a certain extent for the reasons that I wasn’t sure I’d love them in the beginning.

This book pulled me in and kept me turning pages. I had already guessed a major reveal fairly early that was confirmed in the end, but it didn’t keep me from watching the drama with rapt attention. There was so much going on that I didn’t feel like that one prediction was enough to diminish my interest in the story. There is drama, angst, tension, and so much heat. I am looking forward to Rebel Heart in May to learn how this couple handles the issues still ahead of them.
