How to walk away from a man you fall in love with at the end of a summer:
…I’ll let you know when I figure it out.
Rebel Heart is the second book in the Rush Series Duet. Book One, Rebel Heir, is available for sale now.
Well, I was definitely excited to read this one after the revelation at the end of Rebel Heir. And I did enjoy the conclusion of this duet although it was angsty, heartbreaking, and at times anxiety-inducing and frustrating.
Gia has just received some news that rocks her to the core. And then has to decide what to tell Rush about it. And the whole situation is one that could ruin everything that they had planned.
They are both struggling with conflicting emotions and both have decisions to make about the future. There are a lot of factors involved. Rush ultimately has to decide if love can overcome hate so that he could have a chance of moving forward. And as Summer is ending, Gia has to figure out what is next for her. They both will have to push past fears and doubts in order to embrace life. Some of it requires getting rid of negative thoughts and thinking more positively. Also not letting old hurts cause more pain in the present and affect the future. But with so much at stake and so many strong emotions, it is not an easy fix and will take a lot of introspection and decision making.

My heart hurt for these two and I wanted to soothe them. I wanted to shake sense into them. I wanted to throttle side characters. At times it seemed like the drama and angst would never end, and I wanted decisions made faster, but at the same time it made sense with what the characters were going through. I admired them for really considering all the details and trying to make the best decisions for everyone involved. But it was sometimes hard to watch and wait.
I really loved these characters and this duet. Rush really showed so much growth throughout from a cocky, cynical, alpha-hole to a protective, loving, and invested man. And Gia had sass and tenacity, but needed to feel truly loved and supported. Their connection, chemistry, banter, and rapport made them so funny and likable. But it was definitely an emotional roller coaster with twists, turns, and anxiety to deal with.
This duet was sometimes a wild ride, but I was glad I took it. And by the time it was over, I was able to relax and look back at it with a smile on my face.

With the revelation at the end of Rebel Heir, I was looking forward to finding out what happens next for Gia and Rush. A summer in the Hamptons was supposed to be relaxing and rejuvenating for Gia, a place to get her book written. What she found instead turned her world on its head.
The drama and angst continues in Rebel Heart, and there could only be more added before a resolution is found. There were times I felt like they were going in circles, making little progress towards resolving the issues that were holding them back.
They each have a lot to sort through, as a couple and individually. Rush has to decide if his anger is worth holding on to, or if he can let go and have more with Gia. Gia isn’t sure what her next steps are, and figuring that out on her own is important.
I loved these characters, even if at times they frustrated me with their actions. I wanted them to find the peace they each wanted so badly. By the time I reached the end, I had decided this was the resolution I was hoping for between Gia and Rush.
The Rush duet is a good summer read, with plenty of drama to keep things interesting. The ups and downs between Rush and Gia kept me guessing about how they would react and how they might solve the issues holding them back.

How to kick off a great summer in the Hamptons:
Snag a gorgeous rental on the beach. Check.
Get a job at a trendy summer haunt. Check.
How to screw up a great summer in the Hamptons:
Fall for the one guy with a dark leather jacket, scruff on his face, and intense eyes that doesn’t fit in with the rest of the tony looking crowd. A guy you can’t have when you’ll be leaving at the end of the season.
Check. Check. Check.
I should add—especially when the guy is your sexy, tattooed God of a boss.

Check. Check. Check.
I should add—especially when the guy is your sexy, tattooed God of a boss.
Especially when he not only owns your place of employment but inherited half of the town.
Especially when he’s mean to you.
Or so I thought.
Until one night when he demanded I get in his car so he could drive me home because he didn’t want me walking in the dark.
That was sort of how it all started with Rush.
And then little by little, some of the walls of this hardass man started to come down.
I never expected that the two of us, seemingly opposites from the outside, would grow so close.
I wasn't supposed to fall for the rebel heir, especially when he made it clear he didn’t want to cross the line with me.
As the temperature turned cooler, the nights became hotter. My summer became a lot more interesting—and complicated.
All good things must come to an end, right?
Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.
