This is a sweet and sexy best-friends-to-lovers story with a matchmaking twist.

Willa Hayes wants to take over her mother's successful matchmaking business, but she does not seem to have the intuitive skills that her mother and sister have. She is structured, organized, stubborn, and anxious. She wants the business, but she also has another immediate dream she wants to accomplish and is willing to do whatever it takes to see it happen.

Reid Fortino is her neighbor and best friend. He is outspoken, charming, cocky, loyal, protective, impulsive, a bit nerdy, and a commitment phobe. They spend most of their free time together, thus getting in the way of either of them actually dating anyone else. So her mother thinks it is a brilliant idea that in order to prove herself, Willa agrees to find a match for Reid. However, Reid has no interest in any kind of serious relationship, marriage, or children.

These co-dependent friends are thrust into a situation that starts to shake things up. Jealousy, insecurity,  and changes in how they see each other start to take them from the friend zone to slightly flirty to oh-hell-what-is-going-on-here mode. Their dynamic quickly starts changing due to new awareness, attraction, and shifting feelings. And in-the-now things look like they could be a good thing, but their future outlooks could not be more different. They each want something that the other absolutely does not want. And they are both stubborn, determined to follow their path, and fearful of loss. In some ways they are perfectly suited and other ways they could not be farther apart.

They already had a built in foundation of friendship and a strong connection when this book started so it was a quick transition as things started changing. But I loved their banter and acceptance of each other's flaws. They were both likable characters, even when I wanted to shake some sense into them. Their conflict was not something easily fixed. And it will all come down to what they can and cannot live with, and what they are willing to do about it.

This is a fun, playful, and swoony friends-to-more romance with just enough angst and feels. It flowed well in dual points of view and I could not tell that it was written by two authors. Willa and Reid's friendship and love story felt real and touched my heart.

I liked the side characters of her free-spirited sister, Aspen, and his immature brother, Leo. I would love to see more with them.
