New York Times bestselling author Meghan March goes back to New Orleans and the world of Lachlan Mount with a dangerous and bold new anti-hero.

The thing about ghosts is they’re supposed to stay dead.

That’s exactly what I am, but I can’t stay away from Magnolia Marie Maison for one more day, let alone another year.

We’ve already got fifteen of those between us.

As it stands, she’ll want to kill me as soon as she lays eyes on me. And knowing her, she’s completely up to the task.

But I’m a man on a mission, and I’ve got everything riding on this.

So, here I come, Magnolia. This ghost is ready for whatever you got.

After all, there’s only one way I want this to end—’til death do us part.

Creole Kingpin is the first book in the Magnolia Duet. Magnolia’s story concludes in Madam Temptress.

Okay! So here is the deal! I cannot really tell you anything about this other than it is about Magnolia. Yes, that Magnolia that we have seen throughout previous books. The ex-Madam and Keira's best friend.

But Magnolia has some secrets, including an ex-love that disappeared on her years ago and she never really got over. They were together for a short, but intense time and he had to leave while she had to stay in NOLA.

But now she thinks she is seeing him. Why would he return after fifteen years? And if it is him, what exactly does he want from her?

I love Magnolia. She is smart, and full of fire and sass. But what she does not always show is the big, caring heart she has and how much she longs to be accepted and truly loved. She is confident and in control on the outside, but also has hidden self-esteem issues and lacks trust. She wants to be seen as tough, invincible, and independent, but she also has to put on that front since she has never had anyone to lean on...except him all those years ago.

It seems that change is coming her way, but she has no idea exactly what she is in for.

This is an emotional and raw second-chance love story full of secrets, regrets, and heartbreak. But there is also humor, swoon, mystery, and suspense. I loved Magnolia and this man that has resurfaced. I love how they get under each other's skin, can see each other's vulnerability, and have this connection that just never could be broken. There is definitely a reaction, attraction, power plays, and unbelievable chemistry. But there is also understanding, acceptance, and much needed support.

Magnolia has always stood alone..but does she have to anymore?  And even if he stands with her, will it be enough to weather the storm that is coming?

*Note: when I wrote this review, the hero had not been announced publicly by the author so I kept it spoiler free.
Magnolia Maison was introduced in the Mount trilogy as Keira’s best friend. A former madam, she has a deep sometimes painful past in New Orleans, but has fought her way to the legitimate side of business, owning her decisions along the way. What not many know is that she fell in love during a particularly intense period of time just after Hurricane Katrina, just as she was making changes to her life that gave her hope for a better future. But the man she relied on couldn’t stay in New Orleans, and she couldn’t leave.

Moses Gaspard is back in New Orleans for the first time in 15 years and he has plans to win back the woman he had to leave behind. But he’s got his work cut out for him -- she was fierce when he met her and she’s only grown stronger and harder in the years since he left.

I love Magnolia. She is a tell-it-like-it-is firecracker and has a firm grasp on her place in the world of New Orleans. She hasn’t always made easy choices, but she is looking forward to living an easier life now that she has stepped back onto the legitimate side of life. She has always had to be the hard exterior she has built, never letting anyone closer to her, never letting herself rely on anyone else, but now that the one man she tried to lean on is back in town, she is going to have to face whether her current path is what she wants, or if she can trust someone else to have her back after all.

Moses was a bit of a shady character when we met him in the Legend trilogy, but seeing him step into the light a little bit had me quickly falling for his charm. He is not an easy man, and has ot made easy choices, but he knows what he wants and is sure that Magnolia wants him too. Their past is too much to forget, even if it was for only a short time.

This is a second chance with a whole lot of suspense hanging in the shadows. Both Magnolia and Moses have secrets, enemies, and consequences of past actions haunting their moves. I found myself watching the shadows around them wondering exactly who the target is, and who is pulling the strings. There are several shady possibilities and I can’t wait to see what happens in Magnolia and Moses’s future -- can they each let their guard down and be vulnerable? And if they do, how will their enemies react to finding the pair of them working together?
