Fall in love with Katy Regnery's superhot Alaskan men...

When Los Angeles lawyer, Addison, receives a desperate voice mail from her adventure-seeking brother, she hires Alaskan helicopter pilot, Gideon, (whom she finds via an ad in The Odds Are Good) to take her to her brother's last-known location. As the two venture further into the harsh Alaskan wilderness on a dangerous rescue mission, they quickly discover they'll have to safeguard their lives...and their hearts.

An Odds-Are-Good Standalone Romance

I am going to make this a spoiler-free review because this book was not what I expected. It deals with some difficult subjects. There are some surprises and twists. But ultimately it is a story about facing hard situations and then digging in and finding purpose and a reason to move forward.

Addison DeWitt thought she had all she needed--a successful and profitable career as a law partner, a nice, stable life, and the one person she has been able to count on. Then one call changed everything and she finds herself in a situation she never imagined. Related events send her life spiraling in a different direction. But at the darkest, there is a small glimmer of hope and she has to figure out if she's strong enough to grab onto it.

Gideon Grigoriev is a chopper pilot in Alaska. He just wants to help a woman in need and the money involved is just a bonus. His attraction to her is risky, but the time they spend together as a fun distraction in the midst of chaos leaves a mark on him that he never expected.

Two people that never saw the other coming, and were not sure what to do when one had to go. Neither was looking for love. Neither had experienced such a quick bond. She is untrusting, afraid, and used to being let down. He seems to offer safety and acceptance, but he also has some needs that might be non-negotiable. And their life circumstances could not be more different.

Can love bridge the distance to compromise?

This is a story about heartbreak, grief, hope, and finding the good even in bad situations. My heart broke for both of them at times, and there were other times I just wanted to shake sense into them. Their connection was intense, but the circumstances were so dramatic and required so much compromise that a positive outcome was certainly not guaranteed. So this is more than a cute and quick romp through Alaska with a hot pilot. It definitely delves into more serious topics and emotional events, but it is about overcoming and living life to the fullest.

A desperate call from her brother has Los Angeles attorney Addison dropping everything to rush to his aid in Alaska. She is out of her element in the wilds of Alaska, but her connection to her brother outweighs her discomfort.

As a helicopter pilot, Gideon is used to taking tourists on day trips into the mountains, but Addison’s request is a little different. The big payout at the end has him accepting as well as the quick attraction he feels towards her.

Their week together turned into more than either expected, but also ended in a way neither would have imagined. They were not expecting the bond that formed between them, so neither was sure what to do when their time together was over. And when that time was over, there was a lot of soul searching to find a way to make things work.

There were several massive heartbreak moments in this book. These two experience some major highs and lows along their journey. But to balance the lows, there are also great light hearted moments as well. For every deep, dark hit there is a ray of hope. They are dealing with a lot of situations in a short period of time and though I hurt for each of them at times, there were other times where their actions frustrated me. I had several scenes that I also wished we could have seen with more detail rather than having events happen off the page to hear about after the fact.

Though this is part of a series, each book stands alone completely. Each couple and their lives are fully isolated from the others. The thing I love about this series is that each couple has to face something bigger than just the Alaskan setting (in this case wilderness) and has to confront some pretty heavy topics.
