Unswerving: Angus Force is determined to hunt down the serial killer he'd once shot dead--or so he thought. But an anonymous source reports that Lassiter is alive. Force hasn't slept since, knowing it's only a matter of time before "the Surgeon" strikes again. And soon, a body is found, bearing Lassiter's same maniacal MO. It's just the beginning of a murderous trail blazing through DC and Virginia, right to Force's backyard...

Unstoppable: Nari Zhang is the shrink for the ragtag Deep Ops Unit, though she isn't Force's shrink--which is a very good thing. Because once they're thrown together on the case, their attraction is explosive and irresistible. They'll just have to fight that much harder to keep the heat between them from flaming out of control. But things are about to become far more challenging, and deadly, than they could have imagined...

Unhinged: Once the killer catches a glimpse of Nari, she becomes his new obsession. She is now the focus point--for both Force and Lassiter--in a dangerous dance for survival...

Angus Force lost too much to the serial killer Henry WayneLassiter...his sister, his career, his mental state, and nearly his life. But when an old source whispers that the allegedly dead killer might still be alive, he is ready to get back in the game and investigate. He was given a new team of talented misfits under Homeland Defense and spent a year trying to find any evidence. But a year later, his bosses and the agency are disbanding his team...at just the moment where woman's bodies are being found with similar calling cards. Angus is sure Lassiter is playing with him no matter what the agencies say. He is going to keep trying...even rogue or alone.

His team is not so ready to abandon Angus, even when it looks like they might be getting targeted as well. And one woman, Nari Zhang who was the team's shrink is determined to stick by him. She is intelligent, brave, stubborn, empathetic, and challenges him. And their chemistry is off the charts. But his involvement with her, puts an even bigger target on her back. So no matter how much Angus wants to protect those he cares about by pushing them away, he also does not want anyone to be able to get to them.

Angus and Nari seem to be getting hit from all sides. Bodies are piling up. Bullets are flying. People are attacking. The MOs are different and it is hard to determine who all is coming after them. And there are multiple agencies fighting for dominance and determined to drag Force down along the way. Angus is sure part of the puzzle is Lassiter, but the rest of the pieces remain hazy. And he has to stay out of the fray long enough to prove it.

Is Lassiter really alive? A copy cat? Are the various threats related or from separate entities?

This is an action-packed, layered, mysterious, twisty, romantic suspense novel with one bad-a** couple. there are a lot of questions, but they are all answered once it is all said and done. But there are surprises and twists along the way.

Little Nari is a powerhouse on her own and I loved that about her. She had her own personal issues, but was not afraid to stand up for what she believed in and she could stand toe-to-toe with the big boys. Angus is this broody, intense, protective, and possessive alpha hero who became attached to her and his team even when he tried not to be. This whole ragtag team is full of interesting and loyal characters that all have their roles that they can do well. I loved getting more with them, especially Wolfe from the last book. And it is hard not to love Roscoe, an alcohol-drinking, dress-shedding, trained, german shepherd with loads of personality. I am looking forward to more with Jethro the ex-M16 agent and professor in the next one.

Angus Force has been hunting for the serial killer he thought was dead, the killer he thought he killed. When a new body turns up that fits Lassiter’s MO, Force’s search goes into high gear, though he has a hard time convincing any other authorities that Lassiter is behind the new body. As more bodies are discovered, a chilling connection to Force is revealed, giving him even more of a motive to find Lassiter fast.

Nari Zhang is the shrink assigned to Force’s team. She and Force fight the attraction between them, which only grows when they work closely together on the Lassiter case. She has her own reasons for avoiding workplace romances, but sometimes the sparks are too much to ignore. When she finds herself in Lassiter’s target, the danger ramps up as she tries to save her job and her life.

These two are fierce together. Angus doesn’t give up easily, and though he is haunted by ghosts of guilt, when he has a task to focus on he is laser sharp. He isn’t one to ask for help, and even as his taskforce is being dismantled he doesn’t want anyone on his former team to ruin their careers over sticking it out with him. Nari has her own battles to fight, within the Homeland Defense agency and outside of it. Together, they are determined to get to the truth behind these murders. There were times I had a hard time with the intensity of their relationship, really feeling what they were feeling, but I think part of that is just how closed off both of these characters are at times. I think had I read previous books in the series it might have felt easier for me to believe in their chemistry.

This is the first book in the Deep Ops series that I have been able to read, and though I think some minor details would have been more clear had I already been familiar with these characters and the series arc, I was able to pick up this story very quickly. The suspense elements kept me guessing and the twists in the story were somewhat unexpected. Though this was my first Deep Ops book, it will not be my last. I enjoyed getting to know this group of characters and look forward to future installments as well as catching up on the three other books that are already published.
