At eighteen, I walked away from Willow Creek Valley for good.
I was young, scared, and stupid, and it cost me the love of my life— Grayson Parkerson.
Fourteen years later, a crash sends me back home to recover.
Back to where we met, fell in love, and planned a future.
The one he’s now living as a single dad to his daughter.
Working at The Park Inn together gives us a chance to reconnect, and seeing him with his little girl makes me long for the days when he was mine. One look in his gorgeous blue-green eyes, and it’s like I never left. One kiss, and my world is upside down. One night together, and I know without a doubt, in his arms is where I belong.
I’m not the girl I was—intimidated by his wealthy family and desperate to escape our small town. I can imagine a new life for us here.
But he’s learned to guard his heart, and trust won’t come easily.
I was excited to get Jessica Walker's story after we met her in Stay For Me. It was a small cameo but it made an impact and has repercussions on her life. She has now returned home to Willow Creek Valley fourteen years after running away from her first love. She could not deal with some things and thought it would be easier to leave before getting her heart broken...but she just broke both of their's instead. And she still has regrets about the one she ran away from. She is struggling now with medical issues, PTSD, and anxiety and feels like a failure having to come home.
Grayson Parkerson still lives in their hometown. He is from a wealthy and influential and at time judgmental family. His life is just what was expected in some ways, and in other ways not what he wanted. He seems to fall for women that leave him and his one true love is now his daughter. Jessica was his one-that-got-away and he is not sure he is prepared to be around again. He has become a grumpy, closed-off, work-a-holic.
These two have history, memories, and pain tying them together. Jessica is really struggling but is a fighter determined to get her life back. And he is a good man who understands that she needs support and he has a protective nature. But they have always been each other's "what if?" person and drawn to each other like no one else.
She is still healing and not sure she is ready to stay forever. He is afraid of being left again. Spending time together stirs up all the unresolved feelings. Living in the moment makes them start to come alive again, but fear of the future looms over their heads. I absolutely loved them individually and together, even when I wanted them to get out of their own heads.
This is an emotional, inspiring, small-town, second-chance love story. There are challenges, conflict, surprises, and twists that added up the angst and drama. And there are plenty of sweet, hot, smile-inducing, and swoon-worthy moments too.
The side characters including their siblings and friends add humor, support, and sometimes interference into their lives, but for the most part, they are well-meaning and most of them see Grayson and Jessica as the couple that deserves a second chance to get it right. His daughter was a pure joy and I also loved a few fun cameos. There are already a couple of possible future match-ups hinted at and I cannot wait for more with this group.
