In a dystopian world encased in darkness, a war for control rages and little humanity is left. In the Elysium prison, Eben was once a prisoner, but is now a guard. Cale is currently incarcerated with little hope of survival. They should be on opposite sides, but something about Cale calls to Eben. They also both have a secret that could get them killed even sooner. 

They have just been existing in their isolated and unstable situations. But Eben's kindness and news sparks new fire in Cale. Hope is tentative, but tangible. They will have to trust, find their strength, and will to survive in order to fight for their lives. 

This is s short story but it packs a punch. You can practically feel and smell the despair, evil, and hopelessness. The images are so vivid that they feel real. A dark world of desolation with a small beacon of hope. There is an intensity in the connection between these two that shines through.

Even though it gives us a satisfying ending, I would be interested in more with Cale and Eben.
