Jett Olsson isn’t looking for anything serious and she’s not looking for anything at all, so why does it seem so hard to keep it professional?

I love my life—the thrill of being on the ice as part of the Arizona Vengeance, the rush of winning, the adoration of the fans. And if that adoration means I don’t have to spend the night alone, well even better. I’m content being single and always ready to mingle.

But the day Emory Holland walks into a Vengeance team meeting my attention is caught like never before. I can tell right away she’s full of smarts and sass, and the fact that she’s hot as hell sure doesn’t hurt either. She immediately shuts down my advances, so I opt for the road less traveled—straight to the friend zone.

My approach works like a charm, and when she invites me into her bed for a no-strings, friends-with-benefits arrangement, I vow to give her everything I have. She’s been hurt before, and if I’m able to help her heal while giving her a spectacularly satisfying time *pats self on back*, then I’ll be happy.

Or at least that’s the lie I keep telling myself as the time ticks down on the final buzzer of our “relationship”. Now the real question is, can I score the winning goal in a game neither of us realized we were playing.

Jett Olsson, a right-winger for the Arizona Vengeance is focused on his game both on and off the ice. He has his sights on the new VP of Digital Marketing, Emory Holland. But even though he is charming and persistent in wanting to secure a date, he is not really in the market for a relationship especially when he figures out all that she has going on at home.

He is charming, easy-going, and determined. She is smart, protective, and feisty.

They stumble through varying stages of development from her barely tolerating him, to enjoying each other's company, friends only, then friends-with-benefits. But they both are clear that there are no expectations. He thinks he is not ready to settle down and she does not want to set tongues wagging dating a coworker...and she has a full life.

But their casual fling leads to a bit more investment. They find themselves not only enjoying bedroom games but also sharing, supporting, and becoming more involved in each other's lives.

But her life is complicated, and that is something Jett never signed up for. And even if he changes his mind, her past has taught her not to rely on others or risk getting hurt.

I really enjoyed these two. They had blazing chemistry, but also this connection that just grew organically even when they were determined to resist. I was surprised when I realized the book was about to end and I was not ready for it to. I would have liked just a bit more, but I know they will show up again.

I loved being back in the Vengeance world, and did not realize how much I missed it. I liked getting more with some of the guys still coming in future books like Riggs and Baden. I am very interested in their stories. I really admired her sister, Jenna, as well and I would love to see her find a good man. Felicity is a scene-stealer as well.

Jett Olson is fully comfortable with his single status. His time with the Arizona Vengeance has earned him a reputation as a bit of a player, but he has been interested in getting to know the new VP of Digital Marketing, Emory, better ever since she joined the staff. He is uncomplicated, easy going, and a fun loving guy.

Emory Holland is a busy woman. With her new position with the Vengeance, her 7 year old daughter, and encouraging her sister to come out of her shell, she is focused on her family. She isn’t interested in a relationship after her marriage ended, and besides, she doesn’t really have the time. But Jett is persistent, and good looking, so what harm can a little no-strings fun be?

These two were fun to watch. There was a bit of time where it felt like they were circling and there was a lot of will they or won’t they, but I also think it fit for where Emory was in her life. She had been hurt badly and wasn’t interested in trying again. But I loved the gentle nudges she received from her sister and the way their relationship just kind of grew organically. Jett started to rethink things early on (because he didn’t know she had a daughter), but it didn’t take long for him to become attached to the little girl as well as her mother.

Jett himself is pretty easy in this story, it is Emory’s past that causes the most challenge. But even with the hiccups that come up, the story felt smooth and easy. There wasn’t a lot of angst, and their chemistry grew even as they denied anything beyond the no-strings fun was happening.

This was a fun return to the Vengeance world, and I can’t wait for more. Part of me hopes that we see more from Emory’s sister, and I definitely want more from the guys.
