Before I even met Donovan Decker, I knew his shoe size.
You see, I’d gone away for a few days, and in my haste to get out of the airport, I’d grabbed the wrong suitcase.
After checking out the expensive footwear and tailored clothes, I dialed the number on the luggage tag hoping maybe Mister Big Spender might have my bag.
A deep, velvety voice answered, and as luck would have it, he had my suitcase, too.
Donovan and I met at a coffee shop to do the exchange.
Turned out, it wasn’t just his voice that was sexy. The man holding my luggage was absolutely gorgeous, and we had an immediate spark.
He got me to admit that I’d snooped in his bag and then convinced me to make it up to him by letting him buy me coffee.
Coffee led to dinner, dinner led to dessert, and dessert led to spending an entire weekend together. Donovan wasn’t just handsome with a panty-dropping voice. He was also funny, smart, and surprisingly down to earth for a man who wore seven-hundred-dollar shoes.
Did I mention he also did my laundry while I slept?
Definitely too good to be true.
So what did I do to repay him for his kindness?
I waited until he was in the shower, then ghosted him.
My life was too complicated for such a great guy.
In the months that passed, I thought about Donovan often. But New York City had eight-million people, so what were the chances I’d run into him?
Then again, what were the chances I’d run into him a year later…when I’d just started dating his boss?

Donovan Decker quickly became one of my favorite new heroes. He is a rich and successful lawyer on the track for partner. But he also remembers his past that taught him street smarts and to be wary. So he is everything! He is intelligent, handsome, charming, thoughtful, and protective. He is buttoned up but also a tattooed alpha used to getting what he wants.

Autumn Wilde grew up in a wealthy family, but that does not mean it was always perfect. She is a social worker who works tirelessly to give back. She is not looking for a relationship since she has major trust issues and tries to keep her feelings locked down.

One meeting leads to a definite spark and an unexpected wonderful weekend. But she pulls a runner and disappears leaving him to wonder. And when they meet again that spark is still there but circumstances are different. Now their lives are tangled in ways that make it more complicated.

But Donovan has no intention of letting her get away again. But in addition to the work complications,  the hardest part might be fighting her trust issues. The core of this story is needing to trust themselves and each other and believe that someone is really going to go the distance. But due to their pasts, they both had some deep-seated issues to deal with while also handling problems in the present.

This is a sweet, witty, heartfelt, sexy, one-that-got-away, we-probably-should-not-be-doing-this,
second-chance romance. I really loved these two together. They have fantastic banter and chemistry. Decker is such a swoony and capable hero that normally can handle any situation, but she manages to make him act uncharacteristically. He is determined to chip away her armor bit by bit. I admired how they believed in paying it forward and helping those that needed it. I loved the side characters especially Storm and Bud and how they played into their story. But their other friends were fun and entertaining too.
From the start, this story and this couple entertained!

After a case of misidentified luggage, Autumn Wilde tracks down the owner of the luggage she mistakenly grabbed at the airport and set up a meeting to swap bags. That meeting leads to a weekend together, after which Autumn ghosts.

Donovan Decker is on track to make partner. He puts in as many billable hours as possible with the goal of making partner younger than anyone in the history of the firm. He doesn’t take much time for fun, and even less time for relationships. His friends tease him about a list of tests that any woman he finds interest in to decide if she is worth his time, and the only one who passes the tests ghosted him. He never imagines he will run into her again as part of his work. The situation is not easy, and there are even more complications than when they first met, but the spark is still there.

When they meet again, it is work related and this is where we really start learning about Autumn and Donovan’s characters. I loved each little reveal about their backgrounds. They came from opposite worlds, and in some ways switched places. But neither forgot where they were from and the connections they make in the present are the perfect way to tie them together while Donovan works to convince Autumn to give them a chance. I loved how Donovan used his past and knowledge of the rougher neighborhoods to help Storm turn over a new leaf. He is also one of those heroes who quickly steals your heart and refuses to give up.

This was so much fun. I loved that though they spent a fantastic weekend together, they still took things slow when they reconnected. To be honest, their initial weekend wasn’t as wild and crazy as you might imagine, given that it was still on their minds so much later, but it was the perfect spark. Working together, and then exploring more together confirmed that the spark could be more than their initial weekend. This was a bit of a slow burn, but definitely a fantastic second chance romance!
