Coen Highsmith was a league star, but he lost more than his team the day the Pittsburgh Titans’ plane crashed. Can he be saved from his downward spiral of guilt and regret to become the man he once was?

I had it all—a successful hockey career, the respect and adoration of the fans, a rotation of beautiful women warming my bed, and a feeling of self-worth and contentment with the direction of my life. But that all changed the day the team plane went down, taking my only chance of redemption with it. Now I’m left with the daily reminder of all my failures and my inability to correct them.

My new teammates are tired of my attitude and following my suspension, I hole up in a mountain cabin to get away from all of it. The isolation is exactly what I need get out of my own head, and I’m beginning to think I could be content in this quiet forever.

Tillie Marshall isn’t the type of woman who would usually catch my attention, yet she manages to do so for all the wrong reasons. I’m here for the peace and seclusion but the quirky artist is hell-bent on destroying that by cutting down the trees that separate our properties so she can open a pottery studio. If it’s a fight she wants, it’s a fight she’ll get. I have the money and the time and no issues bringing her down through the court system. While I see flashes of steely determination within her, I’ve found that being a jerk comes naturally these days and she won’t be hard to intimidate.

Unfortunately, that gorgeous and somewhat odd neighbor who has been causing me grief is creating another type of feeling within me. And once that spark is lit, Tillie displays a faith in me that for the first time since the crash I desperately want to believe. Now it’s time for me to step up and become the man—no, a better man than I once was.

Coen Highsmith has been spiraling out of control since the plane crash that killed his team. Suffering from survivor's guilt, he has demonstrated attitude issues and his behavior has finally got him suspended and he is not sure if he even wants to play anymore. So he is hiding out and enjoying the peace of his friend's remote cabin.

That is until Tillie Marshall enters the picture. His new neighbor is an artist who is determined to complete some construction on the property.

She finds him to be arrogant, rude, selfish, and infuriating. He thinks she is quirky, annoying, outspoken, and challenging. It is fight at first sight. Threats, antagonism., pranks, and even lawsuits. But there is also some spark and sizzle and a challenge that gets Coen's motor running. And eventually, things really heat up in surprising ways.

They do not know what they are doing but just keep riling each other up. It is the most Coen has felt since everything happened. But he is still struggling from his guilt and self-worth issues and does not want to be attached to anyone in any way. But he seems to keep coming back for more.

Sexemies? Frenemies? Neighbors with benefits?

This is a snarky, fiery, steamy, emotional story about an anti-hero finding hope, purpose, forgiveness, and redemption. Tillie forces him to break down his walls, open his heart, wrestle his demons, forgive himself, and fight for a future. Coen was at a point he really needed someone to stand up to him, shake him up, and get him out of his cycle. And Tillie is just an honest woman not used to standing out who is on her own new path.

I enjoyed some team cameos and am looking forward to more books with Drake and Cannon.

Coen hasn’t been the same since most of his team died in a plane crash. He wasn’t on that plane, but he is living with a massive amount of guilt for surviving. His new team needs him, but he can’t find it in himself to care or get close to any of his teammates. When he is suspended from the team, a few months to reset at a friend’s cabin is exactly what he needs.

Tillie Cole lives next door to the cabin and her plans to build a studio for her art pits her against Coen as he battles to keep the peaceful quiet he was searching for. She has a lot tied up in this plan, including dreams she is living for others, and she is willing to fight for what she wants.

Coen isn’t used to having to fight off the ice and the challenge of besting Tillie becomes the spark that ignites between them. The tension sparks between them immediately, though at first it is on the animosity kind. The closeness of their two pieces of property causes the conflict between them, but also fans the flames of the interest between them.

I knew Coen’s book was going to have some emotional baggage, with his reactions to losing his old team and keeping himself separate from his new one. I loved the way he worked through the things holding him back and the way he was forced to face his issues. Tillie is used to staying out of the center of attention, but she had a backbone that was a perfect push for Coen’s reluctance.

This was lighter on the hockey than the other Pittsburgh Titans books, but had some fun cameos from Coen’s teammates, The step away from hockey was exactly what Coen needed in order to process his losses and move passed the guilt he felt, but it also left me feeling a little disconnected from the team. (I missed the hockey action!) I am looking forward to more from this series!
