There’s just something about bad boys. Tattoos and leather jackets, am I right?
Trouble is, my last boyfriend was a teensy bit too bad and now he’s in prison. Yikes.
Time to turn over a new leaf. When my friends challenge me to take a dip in the good guy side of the dating pool, I see their dating bet and I raise it, looking up the one who got away.
Gabe Clements is now the star receiver for a pro football team, with a winning grin and heart of gold.
Game for anything, he says yes to my one-date test.
But can this gal be charmed by a good guy?
Then I learn he’s a bad boy in the bedroom, especially when he issues me another dating challenge…
Then I learn he’s a bad boy in the bedroom, especially when he issues me another dating challenge…
Ellie Snow is starting a new chapter in her life in Los Angeles. A new start to her career, a new home, and new friends. She is leaving behind the bad juju of bad-boy boyfriends past and has taken on the challenge to try out a good guy. She is outgoing, sweet, sassy, bold, and knows what she wants.
Gabe Clements is a pro football player and used to be the boy next door. He has had bad luck with good girls and they do not seem to appreciate his specific tastes. He is polite and personable in public, but has a growly, possessive, dirty alpha side.
They uncover even more fun secrets about each other and strike a challenge together. They are both a bit naughty and nice. They banter and tease. They are oh-so-compatible in how they like to play. It is easier to trust each other due to their history, but they have both been burned before and are a bit afraid to expect more or take the leap.
This is a hot and steamy, witty, flirty, dirty, age-gap romance that makes you smile and makes you fan yourself. The characters are so much fun and totally H-O-T together. I enjoyed seeing more with their friends. I am looking forward to more of their stories.
Ellie Snow likes bad boys, but she’s been burned by the best of them. Her friends, knowing her type, challenge her to find a good guy to date - just to try something a little different. Gabe Clements is a football player who has a guy next door persona and a blast from her past. When he tried to spice things up with his last girlfriend, she broke up with him immediately. Gabe is just what Ellie is looking for - the good guy, and Gabe could use the buffer at family events. But when they strike a deal to take up a little fake dating for their families, they don’t plan for the heat that also strikes between them.
There is nothing slow about these two. When they reconnect after both having left home for a while, the flirtation starts and sparks fly soon after. They move quickly, but just as quickly they discover that what they were looking for in a partner might have been a lot closer than they expected. Their kinks match and they challenge each other in the best possible ways. But having both been burned by past partners, it takes more than compatibility to let down all their walls.
This was a fun example of a friends to lovers, age gap romance. From the beginning they are friendly, connecting with their shared past and the family friendships that have kept their families close, even if they hadn’t seen each other in years. I had a moment where I wasn’t sure I was going to like the history of their age-gap (I often pause when one character is a teen, even if nothing happens at the time), but as most of the story is told when they are both adults I got over it quickly and it wasn’t until I was sorting through my reading notes again that I even recalled I had a hiccup.
This hits all my must haves when it comes to a Laurent Blakely book -- great tropes, fun characters, spicy scenes, and a sweet animal tie-in.
Our reviews
Raise your hand if you’ve ever done this. Written a racy message and sent it to—oops—the wrong person.Yeah, me too. Except, I sent my latest Tales of a Naughty Virgin column detailing my fantasies about my hot, charming, thoroughly bangable next-door-neighbor to…MY ENTIRE COMPANY.
Did I mention I’m a children’s book editor?
Well, I was.
*Facepalm*
At least the column goes viral, but I’m still the gal who gets fired for her not-safe-for-work thoughts about the so-called “Mister Sexy Pants.”
Now I need a job stat, so I jump on the first opportunity. And I come face to face with my new boss.
Mister Sexy Pants himself.
Item number one on my to-do list? Make sure my boss never finds out his alter ego…since all of New York knows I want Mister Sexy Pants to punch my virgin club card.
Contents Include: A sexy and clever romp of an MF, dual-POV, mistaken identity romantic comedy, complete with dating mishaps, sizzling sexual tension, a hot nerd of a boss hero, a chaotically delightful heroine, an awkward incident with glitter, and a virgin’s NSFW to-do list.
My So-Called Sex Life
I’ve got a list of people I absolutely don’t ever want to be stuck with on a boat, or a plane, or a train, and it starts and ends with the broody, grumpy, too-sexy-for-my-own good Axel Huxley.
Also known as this romance novelist’s number one nemesis.
The man is legendary for his mighty pen and his even mightier scowl. I tried to work together with the cocky thriller writer once upon a time, but the two of us are like vodka and good decisions. We don’t play well together.
Only now, our publishers are sending us on a joint trip across Europe to mingle with our most devoted readers on an old-fashioned luxury train.
I can survive the next seven days with Mr. Know It All, until I find out the bed in the sleeper car has to fit his big ego…and me.
