Drake McGinn turned his back on hockey after the league betrayed him. Will the Titans be his chance to clear his name and take back the career he once loved?

After I made the decision to divorce, my ex-wife set out on a smear campaign against me, telling anyone who would listen that I was betting on hockey and throwing games. It wasn’t surprising that my ex told the lies, but the fact that the media, league, and fans chose to believe her baseless claims was unforgivable. I walked away from it all and never looked back.

Having settled into life as a single dad to three boys, I’m content. I have more money than I could ever need, and plenty of time to do whatever I want, whenever I want, and whoever I want. So when Brienne Norcross, the team owner for the Pittsburgh Titans, shows up at my house with a job offer, I have no problem turning her down. But the no-nonsense billionaire, with sinfully seductive red lips and killer heels that would look hot as hell thrown over my shoulders, won’t take “no” for an answer.

Now I need to find balance between hockey, my boys, and the explosive chemistry Brienne and I can no longer deny. A cast-off hockey player and the league’s only female team owner? I can think of a million reasons why it could never work but can’t bring myself to care about a single one of them. Game on.

Brienne Norcross is a woman with extensive responsibilities and her whole life has been focused on work, especially since taking over more of her family‘s company holdings after her brother‘s untimely death. But she’s determined to continue his legacy with the Pittsburgh Titans hockey team.

This is what brings her into the proximity of one broody, bitter, no-nonsense, unfiltered,  hockey player, Drake McGinn. After the league treated him unfairly he had given up hockey. Initially, Brienne made some strategic mistakes when she tried to bring him onto the team the first time, but she’s determined to win him over and eventually they come to an agreement. But that initial antagonism sparks between them and lights a fire that neither of them wanted or expected. And it turns into a full-blown hot addiction that is only supposed to be a secret, no strings, non-relationship. Drake is a busy single dad and needs to stay out of the press. Brienne has her hands full as it is and she does not want to be seen as inappropriate. But they just can’t seem to stop.

This is a forbidden, team owner/player, single dad, hockey romance. I actually really liked Brienne and Drake together. They both had up such barriers and guarded their hearts. She has to be in control all the time in her normal life so the way Drake just takes charge in the bedroom is just what she needs to let go. And I loved seeing Drake's personality and sense of humor emerge and how he’s very protective of those he cares about. But there were some times I wanted to shake Drake and other times he melted my heart.  And Brienne has been such an island and I loved seeing her start to develop some friendships both with the women and also a connection with Drake and his kids.

They seem like opposites, but they really do balance each other out and they add such excitement and pleasure to each other's very busy lives. They really both are addicted to each other. But there are set lines and as they start to blur things have the potential to get messy. But I was totally invested in them as they were figuring things out about themselves and each other.

It's always fun to visit with old friends and see how things are progressing. I really liked the new coach, Cannon, and am looking forward to his story.

Drake McGuinn has a chip on his shoulder about his hockey career and relationships. He isn’t looking to get back into either, but when Brienne Norcross approaches him about playing for the Titans as she rebuilds the team, he starts to think about the what ifs. But her first pitch to him went horribly wrong and they are both surprised when he considers her offer a second time. Returning to the league means redemption and proving all those who didn’t believe him wrong.

Brienne Norcross has always kept her focus on work, even more so wince the death of her father left her running the family’s enterprises, and again after her brother’s death left her the sole owner of the Pittsburgh Titans. She doesn’t have time outside of work, though her attraction to Drake makes it easy to shift her work focus onto the team.

The attraction between these two is off the charts. The fact that she is his team’s owner keeps them sneaking around, but doesn’t stop them from testing the water of the physical relationship between them. There were a few moments where I wanted to shake Drake because of his reactions to events, but in the end he brought me back around again.

There were two fantastic friend groups forming here. I loved the way the women pulled Brienne into their little group, giving her a glimpse of friendships she hadn’t experienced in a long time. I also loved the way the men gathered Drake in. He could have been seen as a bit of an outcast, with the suspicions around his career, but it doesn’t take him long to see that this group has his back.

This was a fun return to the Titans world. I love watching this team build the bonds of an established team and seeing them come together. I am looking forward to Coach Cannon’s story next.
