First rule of being a nanny? Don’t fall for the single dad, even if he is smoking hot.
But that’s exactly what happens when grumpy small-town sheriff Asher Whitlock reluctantly hires me to take care of his daughter for the summer. Neither of us is thrilled with the arrangement, but he’s desperate for help, and I need the money for grad school this fall.
All we need to do is keep our distance and remain professional . . . turns out, that’s easier said than done.
Instead of focusing on my future, all I see is the strong jawline, crystal-blue eyes, and rock-hard body right in front of me. We try to resist each other, but we end up crossing every line until I’m in his bed.
I tell myself it’s just this once.
Okay, twice.
All right, every night.
But it’s got to end–he’s fourteen years older than me, with a kid and a stressful job. Have I mentioned my dad is his boss? Then there’s the past I’m trying to forget. Secrets aren’t easy to keep and mine are getting too big to hide.
Walking away is never simple but when I do, I can’t look back.
Even if it means leaving behind the man I was never meant to love.
Asher Whitlock is a small-town Sheriff, SWAT leader, and single dad to a wonderful hearing-impaired daughter. He is protective, dedicated, and a bit grumpy. He thrives on being intimidating. And now he is in dire need of a new nanny who knows ASL.
Phoebe Bettencourt is his Chief's daughter and grad student in audiology. She has a history of being a bit flighty, and irresponsible, and is in the middle of her own life crisis. But she has the time this summer if she can win over Asher and get a chance.
Things don’t start out so well, but then it seems to be going well with their new routine. But temptation is real. There are several reasons anything between them would be forbidden. But maybe a secret arrangement with a set end date could be the best idea or the worst.
These two definitely have challenges. There are some interesting twists in the story. I liked seeing the characters grow closer and be more open. I loved that under Asher’s crusty facade was the sweetest, softest center. He has such a loving and loyal heart. And I liked seeing Phoebe figure out her own path and navigate change.
This is a snarky, passionate, and heartfelt, forbidden, age-gap, boss-nanny, small-town romance that begins a new series. I loved his brothers and sister and the new small-town setting. I am looking forward to Addison and Grady next. I also liked seeing a bit of crossover with Melanie Harlow's characters.
