How in the world does a grumpy rancher end up falling for a rich dilettante?
Richard Dunning has it all: private school education, an exquisite designer wardrobe, a last name that ensures he’s invited to all the best parties, and a skincare regimen that’s to die for.
The only thing he doesn’t have is… well, a job. Or a home. Or money in the bank. Not since his dad cut him off.
So when his best frenemy approaches him with a bet—spend a month working as a cowhand on some godforsaken Wyoming ranch in exchange for his dream job—he’s a little too proud and a lot too desperate to say no.
But from the moment Richard and his rhinestone cowboy hat show up at the Silver Fork Ranch, nothing is as expected.
Not the beautiful vistas, not the terrifying horses, not the friendly people, not the epic quantities of cow manure, and definitely not Boone Hammond, the rugged rancher whose eyes are a little too intense, whose expectations are a little too high, and whose kisses are… a lot too tempting.
But when his month on the ranch comes to a close, Richard must choose: return to the safe, luxurious life he thought he wanted… or risk everything for the love he’s been IN SEARCH OF all along.
Are you ready to meet Boone Hammond?!
Boone is a rancher who is in desperate need of help. He is overwhelmed, stoic, cynical, and lives a lonely life with only hookups to get him through. But he’d like to have a true partner, and someone to share a life with. But right now the ranch is about all he can handle and with a staff shortage, he is barely managing that.
Richard is a formerly rich city boy who is floundering without purpose, without a home, and without much money. When he is goaded into taking on a bet and a challenge from his former boyfriend and his friend, Oscar, he finds himself at Boone’s Wyoming Ranch. He is sassy, vibrant, snarky, naïve, and out of his element. It's kind of a shock, but he is also stubborn and tenacious and pushes through trying to do his best. But he is also someone who is desperate for approval and someone to believe in him because everyone assumes he is just flighty and incapable of commitment.
I love seeing Richard jump in feet first in his designer duds and try to take on the challenges, even though it is really hard work and he’s so not used to being in this kind of environment. He’s making an impression on the ranch hands but also on the boss, but Boone doesn’t want to be that impressed. He doesn’t want to be attracted to this new city boy. Because he knows he’s going to leave. So he verbally spars with him and tries not to avoid temptation.
But eventually, they’re going to be put in a situation where they can't avoid the pull between them. But it has a potential to be a big mess and they are already on borrowed time.
This is a snarky, sexy, sweet, fun, opposites-attract, fish-out-of-water, boss-employee romance. It's about self worth, and finding purpose. passion, acceptance, appreciation, and a true home. I loved these guys together but almost enjoyed Richard's journey of growth even more. I have not read the rest of the series but I was able to follow it just fine. And I liked Richard so I am kind of afraid to go back and read about him in his ex's James book.

Lucy Lennox is a USA Today bestselling author and winner of the A.C. Katt Gay Debut Novel Award.
After enjoying creative writing as a child, Lucy didn’t write her first novel until she was over 40 years old. Her debut novel, Borrowing Blue, was published in the autumn of 2016. Lucy has an English Literature degree from Vanderbilt University, but that doesn’t hold a candle to the years and years of staying up all night reading tantalizing novels on her own. She has three children, plays tennis, and hates folding laundry. While her husband is no shmoopy romance hero, he is very good at math, cooks a mean lasagne, has gorgeous eyes, looks hot in his business clothes, and makes her laugh every single day. She writes gay romance with heart, humor, and heat!
Molly Maddox is the romance pen name for a New York Times bestselling author who started writing at an early age because her older sister, Lucy Lennox, was a writer and Molly wanted to be like Lucy in all ways (she still does). When she’s not writing, Molly likes to cook, read, take pictures of her dog and cat cuddling, and finds an odd satisfaction in folding sheets so that the top sheet is indistinguishable from the bottom sheet. She loves all things romance and is grateful every day she gets to write for a living.
