I’ve spent the better part of eight years resisting my best friend’s little sister. What’s one more week?

The hardest week ever when it includes a proposition to be her dating coach.

Eight years ago I fell into a secret summer fling with the bright, big-hearted Juliet before our lives went in different directions.

Now, I’m the grumpy to her sunshine on a popular dating podcast we host, and when a wealthy fan gives us a charming coastal cottage as the biggest thank you ever, we head to the town where I grew up to give it a makeover.

And find the house has only one bed.

Located under a mirrored ceiling.

To make matters even harder, the woman I’ve been pining for tells me she wants to try to find the one and would I please be her dating coach for the week?

Like hell I’ll let her date other men. I’ll coach her on three dates with me.

But the second I take her out, I don’t feel like her teacher. I feel like she’s mine, especially when the first night ends with us tangled up together in that bed.

Each night we grow closer, but this dating experiment forces me to face my greatest fear – whether a man like me is worthy of her love.

Even though I’m already head over heels for her.

Monroe and Juliet are cohosts of a romance podcast who love to rile each other up and get under each other's skin. They also had a brief fling years ago that they do not talk about. They help people with relationships and also with ending them on their podcast but are unlucky in love themselves.

Monroe is divorced, cynical, snarky, emotionally unavailable, and not looking for love.  Juliet is sassy, sweet, and tirelessly looking for love and it seems like in all the wrong places or at least with all the wrong guys.

But now they are finding themselves near the scene of their fling, sharing close proximity in a seductive environment,, and tempted more than ever. And Juliet is pushed to keep trying dating so when Monroe comes up with a dating coach plan, she goes along with it. But now he is really amping up the what-ifs and temptation. And these two together are so freaking hot and passionate together.

Role-play dates, seductive settings, shared history, and current intertwined careers and lives make it a bit complicated. Monroe is usually a closed book about himself but finds it opening a bit for Juliet. She is patient, kind, brave, and loves to challenge him. But he has deep insecurities and feelings that he is not a good partner and not enough. But maybe a challenge is just what he needs to finally decide he is worthy of his own love story.

This is finally Monroe's story that I have been waiting a while for. He was always in the background giving advice and it brings back some cameos from old friends. I just adored Monroe and Juliet together so much. And Monroe is one of those guys that has this hard veneer but I just love seeing cracks form in it letting those little peeks of deeper emotions shine through. And Juliet has a positive attitude but some deep feels. There are plenty of opportunities for self-discovery for both of them.

It is a spicy, witty, grumpy-sunshine, forced proximity, brother's-best-friend and brother-in-law's best friend,  friends and coworkers to lovers, dating lessons, second chance romance. It brings all the fun, fire, frustration, and the feels along the way. I was totally invested in this story and even though it made me laugh, it also made me feel their pain. But it makes it just that much sweeter when characters can learn, heal, grow, and try to do better. I thought Monroe was a total swoon-worthy hero and Juliet was a patient and brave heroine. The new setting of Darling Springs brings a quirky small-town feel with interesting characters.

Monroe and Juliet had a secret fling 8 years ago. But that is their past and today they are friends, coworkers, and have put that fling behind them. Well, 2 out of 3 isn’t a bad rate. They run a popular podcast together about dating, and a listener gifted them a home in Monroe’s hometown.

Monroe is vocal in his desire to avoid relationships. He was married once, but when it didn’t work out he decided marriage and relationships weren’t for him. He also lives in fear of becoming his father, and makes decisions to distance himself from the disappointment he feels he has brought to his dad.

Juliet is a romantic at heart and just wants to find Mr. Right. Her attempts have her struggling to pick a guy that can make it to date #2 though, and she is tired of the string of first dates. While she and Monroe are checking out their house and getting it ready to sell, she decides to ask if he would act as her dating coach so she stops picking duds.

I loved the fake dates. Monroe went to such detail to master the persona of each person Juliet picked to “date” and it became even funnier when they ran into the real person at one point.

This story was so much fun -- I was grinning through much of it. From all the little details in the house, to the banter and camaraderie between Monroe and Juliet, there was so much perfection. As they started on the journey to explore Juliet’s coaching, it became clear that though their fling was 8 years ago, the chemistry is still very much present. They continue with the act as long as they can, until they are forced to face what has been building between them during their forced proximity.

Our reviews

One trip across Europe. Two arch enemies. And seven nights with only one bed in the room in a spicy new standalone romance from Lauren Blakely!

The last person I want to be stuck with anywhere for one night, let alone seven, is the too-sexy-for-my-own-good Axel Huxley. I tried to work with the cocky grump once upon a time, but we’re like vodka and good decisions. We don’t play well together.

Only now, our publishers are sending us on a joint book tour across Europe on an old-fashioned luxury train. And thanks to a booking snafu, I have to share a sleeper car with the man who’s made a sport of infuriating me.

You guessed it–there’s only one bed.

I’m not sure I can survive the next seven days and nights with my dangerously sexy enemy and all our fiery tension.

Which explodes one night in a desperately needed hate bang.

But the bigger plot twist is this – the more time we spend together, visiting the most romantic cities in Europe by day and discovering each other at night, the more I’m forced to face our past.

To let go of the hurt.

To see the man he’s become.

And when I do, I wonder if it’s too late to write a new happy ending for us?

Am I fake dating my best friend? Hear me out…

So I'm throwing myself a breakup party, a glittery fete where I envision I'll lift a glass and celebrate being free and single again.

What I actually do: Drink too much champagne and blurt out to my best guy friend that I’d really like to get back on the horse.

But what I truly don’t expect is Carter’s answer – he volunteers as tribute.

With his sinful brown eyes and too-good-to-be-true body it’d be no hardship for me to say yes, though I certainly don’t want him to feel obligated to, um, service me, just because my failed, loveless marriage was a s-e-x desert.

But since the charming and confident pro football star owes five public dates to his dating app sponsor, we make a deal to help each other out.

Pretty soon, our public how to date lessons turn into, ahem, very private ones. And I’m a star student, graduating quickly from flirty banter and lingering looks to toe-curling, sheet-grabbing, mind-blowing hours of physical education.

The problem? Turns out learning to date again feels a lot like the real thing. Can our friendship withstand all these late-night bedroom sessions?

A brand new fake-engagement-turns-into-a-marriage-of-convenience romantic comedy from #1 NYT Bestselling Author Lauren Blakely…

“Marry me.”

They were the last words I expected to say to my fake fiancé, but I’m the kind of guy who doesn’t back down from a challenge.

Pretend I’m engaged to my gorgeous and talented business partner to secure a business deal?

No problem.

Agree to a no-touch rule even though she’s been driving me wild since I met her?

Challenge accepted.

Resist grinning like a damn fool every time that same big-hearted, sunshine-y woman laughs with my little daughter?

Done.

So, yeah, when my fake fiancé’s vindictive business rival threatens to expose our make-believe romance, I can handle that too.

I’ll prove our engagement isn’t fake – by marrying her for real.

A marriage with an expiration date at the end of the year.

But that’s when I run smack dab into the biggest challenge ever – not falling madly in love with my wife.
