I’m proud to be a geek.

I’m smart, but I’m also awkward and somewhat socially inept—forever doomed to live in the shadow of my dead brother.

My job as research engineer is amazing, though, and recently, I’ve managed to make some friends in my hometown of Forestville.

But when the wrong people show too much interest in my latest invention, my boss wants me protected. Despite my fierce protests, I end up back in Forestville. With a bodyguard who poses as my boyfriend.
Quillon is nothing like I had expected. He’s my opposite, but we connect in ways I never saw coming, and for the first time, I don’t feel alone. He takes care of me like no one ever has.

Oh, and he’s also extremely hot, which is fascinating because I’ve always thought I was straight. Apparently not.

But is this just a temporary thing or could it be forever?

Protecting the Nerd is the fourth book in the Forestville Silver Foxes series, a contemporary small-town MM romance series featuring hot silver foxes and the men who fall in love with them. Each book can be read as a standalone. Please check the trigger warnings in the front of the book.

I have been waiting for York's story. He is such an interesting character whose past was so traumatic for him that it completely shaped his life then and now. He is a loner, socially awkward, eccentric, ornery, afraid of rejection, and is more comfortable with math equations than people. He thrives on schedules and solitude. His intelligence and tenacity have made him an incredible engineer and he’s developed advanced technology that other people want. So now his company wants him not only to take on a bodyguard but also to return to his hometown which does not hold the best memories for him.

Quillon is his newly assigned bodyguard, and he is understanding, kind, observant, empathetic, and protective. He’s a gay man and he knows a client is off-limits,  but something about the emotionally wounded, prickly York draws him in from their first meeting. Quillon is willing to do anything he needs to keep York safe, but he’s not sure if he can keep his own heart protected.

York has always thought of himself as straight, but also was not that interested in relationships but Quillon seems to be making him rethink his views. I just loved these two together and how they connected, understood, and provided what the other needed. There is an underlying thread of threats, danger, and suspense.  But at the core of this story is the trust and relationship developing with two very different men and a forced proximity situation where they can’t hide from each other.

York was such a broken boy so as a man he just never felt like people wanted to be around him, so it was easier just to isolate himself. I loved seeing him start to accept people's attention positively and them all trying to help him heal these old wounds inflicted by the people who were supposed to care most about him. Quillon was so perceptive about this and he was just such a good support. The emotional growth and healing in this one is the most important aspect of the story. York's emotional safety is as important as his physical safety.

I loved how York's mind worked and how he was just full of so much interesting information, but Quillon liked hearing about it and validated him. I also enjoyed seeing the other characters from the other books more enlightened and understanding of York's situation and how they responded to it.

This is a sweet, slow burn, opposites--attract, bodyguard–nerdy client,  forced proximity, fake boyfriends, bi/demi awakening romance framed in a suspense and threat situation. I have really enjoyed this series and how the relationships in the past have shaped their futures and how they’ve all come back home and built new relationships within their hometown.

Would you like the long or the short version of my bio?
The short? You got it.
I write steamy gay romance books and I love it. I also love reading books. Books are everything.
How was that?
A little more detail? Gotcha.
I started writing my first stories when I was a teen…on a freaking typewriter. I still have these, and they’re adorably romantic. And bad, haha. Fear of failing kept me from following my dream to become a romance author, so you can imagine how proud and ecstatic I am that I finally overcame my fears and self doubt and did it. I adore my genre because I love writing and reading about flawed, strong men who are just a tad broken..but find their happy ever after anyway.
My favorite books to read are pretty much all MM/gay romances as long as they have a happy end. Kink is a plus… Aside from that, I also read a lot of nonfiction and not just books on writing. Popular psychology is a favorite topic of mine and so are self help and sociology.
Hobbies? Ain’t nobody got time for that. Just kidding. I love traveling, spending time near the ocean, and hiking. But I love books more.
