Confessing feelings for your best friend takes being tongue-tied to a whole new level.

AUSTIN
Dex has always been my best friend, so it’s no surprise that we attend Franklin U together. We’re complete opposites. Dex is charismatic and outgoing. Me? Let’s just say I wish I could infuse some of his confidence into my veins. Making friends is hard enough, but trying to meet guys, even with Dex’s help? I’m useless. Maybe it’s because Dex is all about hooking up, but I want my first time to be straight out of the pages of the romance novels I read.

DEX
After a string of mishaps, I swore off helping Austin land guys. But when he asks me to show him the ropes with practice sessions, I get the feeling he’s desperate. Our dates are pretend, so why am I getting so into them? I want to make Austin happy, but the line between friendship and something more is getting really damned blurry. The fluttery feeling, that electric energy every time we touch…it’s addicting. I’m getting overprotective, not only of my time with Austin, but with douchebags who might break his heart.

Eventually, the pretending has to end so Austin can strike out on his own. But how do I tell him I’m not ready to let him go, when every attempt at confessing leaves me tongue-tied?

Austin and Dex have been friends since they were kids and are now in college at FU. They have been dorm roommates up until this point but Dex has just moved into a new house with people with similar majors.

Dex is into politics and is charming, outgoing, witty, social, and a good speaker in any situation. But he does not do real relationships and is just a hook-up kind of guy. He seems confident in all areas but his past has made him wary of truly giving away his heart to someone and getting hurt.

Austin is his sweet, shy, awkward, introverted, inexperienced, best friend who reads romance novels and just wants to find someone to accept and love him (and to give his V card to). The problem is anytime a hot guy comes around or anyone that he’s interested in Austine either can’t find the words,  jumbles them all up, or has an attack of klutziness. So he comes off even more awkward and becomes more embarrassed.

Dex tries a couple times to be a wingman for Austin but they do not pan out. So Dex offers to help him in more of a dating lessons capacity. As these friends go back to basics to reconnect in different ways and with their dynamics changing a bit due to them not living together anymore it becomes kind of fun and exciting for them. Austin may be getting a little bit more comfortable in dating at least with Dex.
And Dex may be getting a little more UNcomfortable with feelings of jealousy, possessiveness, and maybe some confusing thoughts that are new to him about his best friend. But Austin wants a big love and he knows Dex has never wanted that before (and understands why) and he would never expect him to change.

It's a sweet story of best friends, dating and bedroom lessons,  blurred lines, catching feelings, and changing dynamics.  These guys are adorable together despite being opposites in most ways including their views on love and relationships.

Will either of them find the words to admit their new feelings even if it risks their friendship or will Austin just find enough confidence to to begin to respond to other guys?

I enjoyed the side characters especially their new roommates Kael and Milo. I felt like Kael really added some depth to the story. There are pop-in mentions or cameos of other FU characters, but this is a total stand-alone story.

Once upon a time, Christina Lee was a wardrobe stylist in New York City. She spent her days schlepping clothes, hailing cabs, and on the hunt for the perfect lip gloss, which became a bit of an addiction—along with books and coffee. You could always find her perched in a corner booth of a favorite diner sipping a dark roast and reading.

She currently lives in the Midwest with her husband and kiddo—her two favorite people in the world. She’s been a clinical social worker and a special education teacher and while very rewarding, they still didn’t feel like an exact fit. It wasn’t until she began writing a weekly column for the local newspaper that the bells went off in her head. She could finally draw from her real-life experiences and vivid imagination to write fiction—and she’s never looked back.

Christina writes romance in different sub-genres, but mostly with LGBTQ characters because representation matters and everyone deserves a happily-ever-after.
