Three Pucks and a Baby

As my thirtieth birthday loomed like an impending storm, I, Vivian, a university librarian with a penchant for passion, yearned for a celebration beyond the ordinary. Even a night outside of Netflix and knitting was wild for me. But in the quirky world of college campuses, fate threw me a curveball.

It all began one day between the stacks when a hottie, clad in hockey warm-ups, approached me. Little did I know that a seemingly innocent dinner would escalate into an indecent proposal—a birthday threesome. The proposition only got wilder with the addition of a bi-curious roommate, and suddenly, we were grappling with the complexities of a quadsome. Or was it a quadratic-some?

My post-celebration sprint of shame was Olympic-worthy. I then safely tucked away the memories of my orgasmic encounter with the hockey trio. But then enter two pink lines on a pregnancy test, turning my carefree romp into a delightful mess of three irresistible studs—potential baby daddies—each vying for a place in my heart and in my bed.

As we eagerly awaited the results of a genetic test that promised to unveil the mystery of fatherhood, I discovered that love doesn’t conform to traditional melds, and that three Pucks and a Baby might just be the winning combination.

Grayson Montgomery is a college hockey defenseman ruled by superstitions for success. And this year it is about threesomes with his best friend, Theo, with a woman between them. But this time they are looking for a woman who is a bit more mature. And Grayson is sure he has found the perfect candidate in the hot University librarian.

Grayson is a golden retriever, cinnamon roll type, rule follower, and group conscience. Theo has a bit of a librarian fetish anyway, and is a bit elusive and thrives on control. He falls more into the unfiltered, alphahole-bad boy camp.

Vivian is thirty and sees herself as a nerdy librarian and historical non-fiction author who knits sweaters for her cats and is definitely not a sex symbol. She did not have a threesome on her vision board...or a foursome...or some other unexpected surprises.

The guys' roommate Bennett is a Southern gentleman,  the life of the party, bi, and kind of intrigued and wants in. Theo tests her boundaries, and Gray and Bennett put her needs first. And she tempts, intrigues,  and challenges them.

She believes in signs, and they believe in superstitions. Something seems to have brought them all together.  But one supposedly carefree night turns all of their lives upside down. But sometimes unexpected turns can open them up to new possibilities.

Now these four are trying to work together and figure out what they all want. But it also involves testing their own boundaries and exposing themselves to judgment for their unconventional arrangement.

I have to say, although I really liked all of the guys, one was my very favorite, and I just adored him. He was sweet, charming, and so in need of love and to have his love accepted. Another was steadfast, loyal, and loving. One was more controlling, scared, and reactive, but also cared deeply and was trying to be better. Viv had her hands full. But she was also likable, smart, sassy, and learning to live a whole new, exciting life. I really enjoyed seeing the growth of each of them and the progression of relationships with all of them.

This is a sweet and spicy, MMFM, oops-that-wasn't-supposed-to-happen, kind of forbidden, hockey players and librarian romance about getting what you need when you least expect it, found family, and big, unconditional love. It is so much more than just a smexy poly romance, and it has a lot of humor and heart. I really got invested in the characters, and it got me in my feels. There were times I was close to tearing up, and other times that just had me smiling so big. I am particular about Why Choose romance, but I really loved this story and these characters.

Vivian is a quiet university librarian who feels like her life is missing an element of excitement that she feels she should have at 30. She knits and researches when she isn’t at work, and hasn’t put a whole lot of effort into relationships.

Grayson and Theo have a superstition that has evolved and grown each year they’ve played together. Both seniors on the university hockey team, they have certain rituals they use to give them luck, and their most successful one is having a threesome before important games.

The guys are looking for a slightly older woman this year, and when Grayson sees Vivian in the library he knows she is perfect for them. She is hesitant, as she's never been one to be overly adventurous, but she clicks with Grayson and Theo and they make her comfortable enough to give it a try. What they didn’t expect was for it to become a foursome, nor did they expect to develop feelings as the season progressed.

This was a lot of fun from start to finish. Vivian is a solid heroine with a good head on her shoulders. She didn’t see herself having multiple partners, but you can’t plan for everything! Grayson is the quintessential golden retriever, wanting to make sure everyone is comfortable. Theo has a need to control things. Benny is more go with the flow, but has been harboring feelings for one of his roommates for some time.

This is a spicy why choose with a lot of layers. There were times I wanted a little more relationship building -- with multiple partners often comes unexpected emotions to work through -- but I ultimately loved the way these characters came together. There was plenty of spice and a lot of heat as these four navigated an unexpected baby, an unexpected relationship, and navigating the world of living in a nontraditional household.
