Matteo “Lucky” Branson has it all—an elite hockey career, a massive fanbase, and the kind of charm that trends effortlessly on TikTok. As the fun-loving left winger for the Pittsburgh Titans, he’s built a brand on superstition and swagger. But when a viral dating challenge puts him opposite a woman who couldn’t care less about his fame, Lucky’s about to learn the hard way that some games don’t follow the playbook.

They call me Lucky for a reason. My grandmother swears I was cursed at birth—yet somehow, I’ve been kissed by fate every day since. I’ve got my rabbit’s foot, a shamrock tattoo, and quirky rituals by the dozen—and it’s all worked so far. Life’s been smooth. Hockey, clout, fun... I’m skating through.

Until I meet Winifred Shaw. Winnie. She’s smart, bold, and laugh-out-loud funny, with a TikTok following that rivals mine and a dating challenge that’s going viral. The premise? Thirty days of dating to prove an average woman can still land a decent guy. I’m the first to accept the challenge—one night, one chance, and then she moves on. But the moment she rolls her eyes at me, I’m hooked.

She thinks I’m just another overhyped athlete with a pretty face and a lucky streak. But I see her—confident, curvy, electric—and I don’t just want a second date. I want every single one after that.

I’ve always trusted luck to get me where I need to be. But this time? I’m ready to fight for it.

Lucky Branson is one of the newer Titan hockey stars and a TikTok sensation. He is easy-going, hot, cocky, charming, and a bit over the top. And when he’s scrolling social media and sees a down-to-earth, honest, funny woman, throwing out a dating challenge, he decides to offer his services.

Winnie is smart, honest, sassy, practical, teacher and social media influencer. She just wants a decent, average guy who is smart and interesting. She feels like Lucky is way out of her league, but he’s determined to prove that he’s not and take her on some dates. And they’re bringing along their social media following for the ride.

Neither of them is looking for serious right away. It’s just supposed to be some fun dates. She’s supposed to be dating around and testing out the waters of the dating pool for her challenge. But Lucky finds himself wanting to get more of her attention for himself, and they have online people and a whole group of nosy hockey guys and their significant others pushing it along. It begins to feel more real and significant than it was supposed to.

I actually really liked these too. They’re just fun,  honest, entertaining, and have great chemistry. It’s like every time they were together. It was just positive and surprising even to them, and they just wanted more of it.  But they live different lives and have various pressures on them. It also illustrates the effect of social media these days on our lives, thoughts, and even self-worth. It can either be good and helpful or it can be bad and toxic.

This brings back many of the teammates and their significant others. I love how Lucky, as one of the new members of the team, is feeling so supported and that he’s found a home in his hockey family. I am excited for Atlas's story now, too.

Matteo “Lucky” Branson has leaned on social media to grow his popularity on and off the ice, following and creating videos sharing his charm and charisma. He is big into lucky charms and superstitions and looks for the lighter side of any encounter he can. But he is serious on the ice, and his hockey career is going strong.

Winnie is a kindergarten teacher who had a video go viral and has spent the time since building a caring supportive following on social media. She posts her average life, bad dates, and her judgemental pet rabbit. After a particularly bad date, she issues a challenge to her followers: she wants to find an average guy for her next date. A normal, average guy. But the attention she attracts includes a stitch from a hockey star promising laughs and snacks.

What started as a social media spotlight, shifts to real feelings. But when the ugly side of social media begins to encroach on their happiness, they both have to decide what they are willing to put out in the world, and what they choose to keep private.

I loved watching Lucky romance Winnie while also trying to convince her he is just a regular guy, despite the hockey. Seeing glimpses of this fun-loving guy with his mom and his friends had me rooting for him early on. I felt for Winnie, as she knew the brutal side of social media and faced its wrath more often than not. But it also kind of frustrated me that Lucky didn’t see it until things were pointed out to him. Regardless, they had to figure out how to navigate their feelings while also deciding how much of their dates to publicize.

Overall, this was a fun story, with great chemistry and fun cameos by Lucky's teammates. I am interested in the breadcrumbs about Atlas that are included as teasers for his book, coming next in the series. I think he is going to find himself in a situation that will break his heart and build it back together again.
