Elliot

How is it possible to be surrounded by people who love me, yet I still feel alone?
Everyone is falling in love, and it’s like I’ve been left on the outside.
I want that for myself, but the thought of putting myself out there is terrifying.
Growing up being told you’re ‘too much’ puts a dent in your confidence, no matter how hard you try to hide it.
Until one day, Lieutenant Hunter Bowen finds me trapped in an elevator.
His kind words and gentle smile only heightens the crush I have on him, and when he asks me to join him one night, I push my fears aside and say yes.
I’m great at controlling the rebound on the ice, but when it comes to bruised hearts?
I guess we’ll find out.

Hunter

When I became a widower seven years ago, my entire world was flipped upside down.
I needed a fresh start, so I left the military and moved across the country, and vowed never to fall in love again.
That was until I met Elliot Olsen.
The guy who has the brightest smile, the biggest heart, and a whole heap of unspoken emotions.
I try to keep my heart at a distance, but the fire burns too bright between us to ignore.
The only problem is I’ve been here before, and I don’t know if I can risk having my heart torn apart again.

Rebound Control is a sports romance featuring a hockey goaltender and a firefighter. It includes ADHD rep, a protective mc, late night ice cream drives and all the Thunder found family vibes.

It is book five in the Chicago Thunder series and can be read as a standalone.

Elliott is such a chaotic, sweet ball of sunshine with a pure heart, and I just adored him. But it was also interesting to see how his own mind interprets his own behaviors and his thoughts and his idiosyncrasies.  And now we get to see his deeper emotions and just how lonely he is and how conflicted he is about that. He loves his friends and is happy that they’re happy, but he can’t help but feel a little left out

And Hunter is a firefighter who is dependable, loyal, kind, patient, and just feels drawn to Elliot‘s energy and light. He accepts Elliot for all that he is and enjoys being around him. He has suffered grief and loss and is afraid to put his heart on the line again, but Elliot's magnetism just draws him in. But he is not sure his issues are something that Elliot should have to deal with either.

The sunshine-storm cloud, new friends-to-lovers, and hurt-comfort aspects worked well in this one. I loved how these two found safety in each other, even with all of their issues. They both have opportunities to save each other in some way.

I loved these two guys together and how Elliot could feel safe enough to be himself and still be accepted by Hunter. They’re such a great matchup, but Hunter's understanding of neurodivergence makes him even more perfect for Elliot.  Their tentative dive into friendship and dating is so sweet, and I just wanted to wrap these two in bubble wrap so that they were protected at all costs.
Elliot is just the most darling golden retriever with such pure joy in his heart, and it was beautiful to see it unleashed more by Hunter's support and love. Hunter was kind of broken and closed off, and having that light back in his life was truly eye-opening for him.

I loved Elliot’s relationship with his twin brother, Blaine, who has always been his closest person and who understands him. And I also liked that Blaine's boyfriend, Alex, also seemed to adopt Elliot and was such a good friend to him. And of course, the rest of the team is back, and it’s always fun to hang out with all these guys. I found this to be just a heartwarming, beautiful, and sweet story.  I have loved every book in the series, but I have to say this might be my favorite.
