After witnessing his younger brother’s death in a tragic accident, Jonathan Nelson desperately tries losing himself on the gridiron. No matter how hard he tries keeping his head above water, he’s drowning in a sea of grief. Compounding his inability to get his head on straight is Presley—the girl who had a complicated relationship with his brother, Jake, and who is pregnant with his child. At first, Jonathan only harbors resentment and animosity to Presley when she moves in with his parents. But the more the two are thrown together, the more his feelings for her begin to change, and the more confusing Jake’s loss becomes.

Presley Patterson never imagined finding out she was pregnant just a month before graduating high school. She also never fathomed losing the baby’s father to a tragic accident. Needing support for her and her unborn child, she seeks solace by moving in with Jake’s parents. She isn’t too surprised to find an adversary in Jonathan, but she isn’t about to let him ruin the first stability she’s ever experienced. Surprisingly, the animosity towards Jonathan begins to fade and is replaced by more amorous feelings. Taking a chance on Jonathan means risking the perfect world she's built for herself and her daughter.

Can the two move on from the specter of Jake in order to find a future together, or will their wounded hearts remain unhealed?

One tragic event spent many lives spinning. For some it helped forge new relationships. For one, it changed the outlook of her future. For another it could cost him his only safe outlet and plans for his future. All were sunk into a spiral of grief and guilt and left looking for an anchor to help pull them out.

Presley Patterson has a bad reputation and is now going to be a single, young mom. But despite the circumstances, she is willing to do the right thing for her and her baby. Her family is not there for her, but thankfully the father's parents are willing and eager to help their grandchild.

Jonathan Nelson is still reeling over the loss of his brother, dealing with his own issues due to the event, and has been put in a forced time out to deal with them. He is drowning in guilt and grief, and angry at Presley and unsure of her true motives. He is unfocused, volatile, and in need of help.

Two broken souls, tied in grief and circumstances start to find common ground, acceptance, and support. But the situation is complicated and messy. Their lives are changing and new ties are forming.

The past is not always what it seems. And the present is hard to face in the aftermath. But in order to find a way to move on and have a healthy future, they will both need to come to terms with their issues and guilt, and find a way to move past it.

It is hard to navigate loneliness, regret, and shared grief, but each of them start to have unexpected feelings that bring even more guilt, wariness, and confusion. But at the same time, there are also more positive things happening in their lives and providing some hope. Their road towards happiness was gradual, heartbreaking, emotional, and complicated, but also had unexpected surprises and joys. I enjoyed seeing the character growth, healing, and changing dynamics. This book brings a lot of feels, but it also has some humor and sweet moments too.

This brings back some of the characters and events from previous books Don't Hate the Player...Hate the Game and The Hard Way. Those events shaped them all and had a ripple effect. But this is in Presley and Jonathan's point of view. I enjoyed getting more with this group and finally getting to see Presley and Jonathan start to find light at the end of the tunnel.
Presley Patterson didn’t imagine she’d be a teenage mom, but finding out she was pregnant just before high school graduation sends her world spinning. Her world is upturned again in short succession when her baby daddy is killed in a tragic accident. Without her own family to help her, she turns to Jake’s family for support while she finds her feet.

Jonathon Nelson witnessed the accident that took his brother’s life and the trauma is more than he can cope with on his own. As he begins to deal with the grief of his brother’s death, he finds himself in close quarters with Presley. He isn’t sure how to deal with his grief, let alone the confusing feelings he finds himself harboring for the mother of his niece.

I loved watching the progression of the relationship between these two. They are both hurting, and both know they have to deal with that pain before anything can happen. But with Presley’s history with Jake, there is a ghost lurking behind all of their early interactions. This is a relatively slow burn. Neither moves quickly as there is too much at stake if their relationship doesn’t work out.
There is much healing to work through in this story. I love how open the characters are about needing help to handle their problems and pressures, and Dr. Z’s quirky personality helped Jonathon open up and work through his hangups. The entire Nelson family was warm and welcoming and as many times as I found myself shaking my head at Presley’s mom, I loved the way they took Presley in and stood up for her. And Evie? She stole the scenes in multiple places with the way she wrapped Jonathan around her little finger without even trying.

Asking for A Friend

Release Date December 16, 2019

I was only trying to help a friend. I swear. I was legit asking for a friend who was finally ready to date again.

I knew what she wanted in a man -- smart, funny, ambitious, well-read (no, the sports section doesn't count), and plays a wicked game of badminton.

So I did what any good friend would do. Posted it for her. It seemed like a good idea at the time — I’d weed through the candidates, and bring her my top picks.

But then he responded.

Is it wrong to date the guy I screened for my bestie? Not asking for a friend.

This is online dating with a twist...or maybe a couple of twists.

Amy Summers is a book nerd who loves words and takes her job as a Junior Editor seriously. She is working towards a promotion at work and trying to be more confident and sell herself. She is sassy, verbally expressive, sweet, and smart.

Linc Silvers comes strolling in as the new Senior Editor and new office hottie. He is also fun, eloquent, intelligent, and easy to get along with. So easy that they develop fun banter and repartee. And both are kind of crushing but avoiding because they have their own reasons for no workplace romances.

Amy decides to help her friend, Peyton find a new man with a local online dating profile. The awesome profile she wrote receives a lot of attention, but one stands out. And messaging with him becomes quite an interesting and exciting distraction...almost as much fun as office shenanigans with Linc. But she is supposed to be shopping for her friend and not thinking of sampling the goods. And Linc is also using his own method of trying to distract himself from the allure of office Amy. But neither can stop thinking about the other.

So it is a bit of a mess with online anonymity, office rules, personal resolutions, and lots of fast-flying messages. I really adored these two. Their banter and chemistry are fantastic. They bring the flirt and fun...spark and sizzle...and wit and words. They have reasons not to get involved, but also so many things they have in common. But Linc...oh my...he is everything. He is the hot nerd with wonderful words...charming and chatty...sexy and sweet. And Amy is so funny, quick-witted, and entertaining. They just light up the pages. But they are also mature and actually communicate, which is refreshing.

This is a rom-com full of heart, soul, smiles, and swoon. I enjoyed the dual points of view. I really liked her friend, Peyton too and hope we see more of her. I also really appreciated his new buddy, Baldwin. Both of their siblings and friend groups added more layers and laughs. And it is always fun to see some cameos and little connections from the Lauren Blakely world.
Amy Summers’ day job as a junior editor is everything she could hope for but she’s also hoping to be promoted to editor now that there is finally an opening. Her challenge is learning to sell herself. She decides to practice her pitching skills while also helping her best friend get back into the dating world. She’ll set up a dating profile for her friend and screen all the potential dates, so Piper only meets the cream of the crop and wouldn’t you know her very first response seems to be exactly what she was looking for. But as the online flirting continues, she starts to wonder if he might just be perfect for her.

Linc Silvers is new to NYC, having just moved cross country to start over after a disastrous work/relationship situation. Though he is determined to avoid workplace entanglements again, he is immediately intrigued by one of his coworkers. Trying to keep his mind of the distraction, he sets up a dating profile online and begins talking to a woman who seems to be a perfect match.

Both in the office and online, these two have matching quick wits, nerdy natures, and a fast friendship. From their first meeting, these two have chemistry that they do their best to ignore. They know the company fraternization policy and between that and their own reasons for avoiding relationships, neither is looking for something new, but sometimes there is just too much serendipity in a situation to ignore.

This is a fun twist on office and online relationships, twisting the two tropes together in a way that is perfectly delightful. The side characters are a wonderful blend of familiar and new, with a new set introduced just for this series. I’m looking forward to Peyton and Tristan’s story as the interest hinted at in a few scenes is teasing!
“No. I was just getting the lowdown on office allergies.” He moves closer, leaning against the bar, looking like a tall drink of man. I break out my mental yardstick. Yup, I’m betting he’s over six feet. I’m going with six foot one. Which might even push him to a fifteen on the goes-to-ten babe-o-meter.

“So you’re on drinks detail,” I say, trying to sound all cool and casual, like I’m not busy sizing him up.

Not consumed with checking out his arms.
Not occupied admiring his blue eyes.
Not tied up enjoying his smile.

He points his thumb at his sternum. “New guy. That means I fetch all the drinks and buy them too. And you? What put you on errand duty?”

“I made my friend snort her drink out her nose.”

He looks impressed. “You officially have the best reason for being on drink detail.”

I preen, enjoying his praise. “Why, thank you. I was hoping to win that contest.”

“What was the snort-inducing remark, may I ask?”

Flashing back, I recall the culprit—my “you need V-time” comment to Peyton—but that’s too personal to share. I give him another one. “I referred to her ex-fiancé by his proper name.”

Clark Kent gives me a curious look. “Is his proper name amusing?”

“Of course. It’s Richard Cranium,” I say, and I wait. Will he pass the test?

House of Scarlett

Release date December 10, 2019

New York Times bestselling author Meghan March continues the utterly addictive Legend Trilogy in House of Scarlett.

Gabriel Legend is unlike any other man I’ve ever met.
He came into my life like a hurricane, shattering all my assumptions and preconceived notions.
I wasn’t prepared for him. I wasn’t prepared for any of it.
But life doesn’t wait until you’re ready.

Whatever happens next, I know one thing for certain.
I will never be the same Scarlett I was before I met him.

House of Scarlett is the second book in the Legend Trilogy and should be read after The Fall of Legend, book one in the utterly addictive Legend Trilogy.

I could not wait to get to this book after that cliffhanger in book one that made me just want to smack sense into Gabriel Legend. His self worth issues and need to protect those around him caused him to make a choice that affected them both (and made me crazy!).

But this is where we get to the nitty-gritty with these two characters. It is time to deal with the idea of going back to life as it was before. or to figure out what they can and cannot live without. Until they are ready to face their fears, issues from their pasts, and take a chance, then there is no hope. But if they can start to believe in the possibility of something good, then maybe there can be a chance. Now is the time to get real and get serious, or give it up for good.

But Legend has a lot of making up to do. He hit Scarlett right at her Achille's heel. She already has enough abandonment issues, not that Legend doesn't as well. They come from different worlds, but also have common issues, history, and traits. They are both stubborn, loyal, guarded, protective, and are fixers. They push each other out of their comfort zones. Something about the other just makes them feel more alive and happy.  But they have a lot of baggage to wade through.

I am totally in love with Legend. He is such a dichotomy between the intimidating, tough, ex-fighter, alpha, and the tender, sweet, protective, loyal man underneath. And Scarlett could be an entitled diva due to her circumstances, but she is actually real, caring, and kind of quirky. These two have so much potential for growth and are catalysts for change. They both keep a small inner circle they trust and will do anything for those they care about. It will come down to whether they feel that they are worthy to be in each other's small trusted group.

And danger is lurking in the background. Legend's past is still haunting and chasing him. And even Scarlett has some enemies of her own. So even if they figure out where they stand, there is still no much more to deal with.

The side characters are all so unique, fun, and opinionated. This world is so layered and well built and I feel like I just stepped into it and am one of the sidekicks seeing it all play out. It is intriguing, witty, sexy, emotional, and intense. There are so many working parts, possible antagonists, and mysteries left to uncover. And there is an underlying suspense thread adding tension, anxiety, and fear.

I was completely engaged and invested throughout this book. And even though I knew another cliffhanger was coming, I still was not emotionally prepared! I cannot wait for the last installment. There are still so many things to tie up and so much I want to see happen. And even then I am not sure I will be ready to let these characters go. I am already hoping for possible spinoffs with the side characters.
Normally, the second part of a trilogy is my least favorite, but not so in this case! This was everything I wanted to see between Scarlett and Legend and more!

We learn so much more about Legend’s history and his drive to succeed makes that much more sense after learning his past. This is a man who takes his promises seriously and he is very near to feeling like he’s failed someone very important to him. His loyalty is one of the things I love most about him, that and his perseverance. He has some making up to do, but when he sets his mind to it he is sure to succeed.

The chemistry between these two is off the charts and impossible to ignore. But even though they click together, there is still a lot to sort before they can fight for their forever.

Scarlett’s squad is such a strong support for her. I love how these women have each other’s backs, supporting without question, and willing to go to all sorts of lengths to protect one of their own. The addition of her sister, Flynn, to the group only ramps up the skill set of the women who surround Scarlett (and I love her addition to the storyline in general -- she’s a pretty BA little sister).

I can’t wait to see how things will wrap up for these two as they reach the final part of their story. The tension that has been building is coming to a head, and the threat that Gabriel has been hiding from is closer than ever before. I can’t wait to see why he has been on the run and how they can fix all the problems they are facing.

Our 4.5 to 5 star reviews

We come from two different worlds.
I’m from the streets. She might as well live in an ivory tower.
I made my living with my fists. I doubt she could even throw a punch.
Our paths never should have crossed.
We never should have met.
That doesn’t change the facts.
I would sell my soul to taste those red lips.
Fight the devil himself to hear her laugh.
Burn in hell to have a single night.
Scarlett Priest shouldn’t even know men like me exist, but sometimes temptation is stronger than will.
If this is how I go down, it’ll be worth every second of the fall.

You can only keep what you can protect.
That’s all I’ve ever known. It’s the way I’ve lived my life.
Now, everything I never knew I needed is at risk, and I’m not letting  anyone take it from me.
I won’t let anyone take her from me.
They say love is a battlefield, so I’m ready for war.
This time, it’s the fight for forever.

Regretting You

Release Date December 10, 2019

From #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Ends with Us comes a poignant novel about family, first love, grief, and betrayal that will touch the hearts of both mothers and daughters.

Morgan Grant and her sixteen-year-old daughter, Clara, would like nothing more than to be nothing alike.

Morgan is determined to prevent her daughter from making the same mistakes she did. By getting pregnant and married way too young, Morgan put her own dreams on hold. Clara doesn’t want to follow in her mother’s footsteps. Her predictable mother doesn’t have a spontaneous bone in her body.

With warring personalities and conflicting goals, Morgan and Clara find it increasingly difficult to coexist. The only person who can bring peace to the household is Chris—Morgan’s husband, Clara’s father, and the family anchor. But that peace is shattered when Chris is involved in a tragic and questionable accident. The heartbreaking and long-lasting consequences will reach far beyond just Morgan and Clara.

While struggling to rebuild everything that crashed around them, Morgan finds comfort in the last person she expects to, and Clara turns to the one boy she’s been forbidden to see. With each passing day, new secrets, resentment, and misunderstandings make mother and daughter fall further apart. So far apart, it might be impossible for them to ever fall back together.
I went into this blindly without reading the blurb so I am going to try to be spoiler-free. I was not sure in the first couple of chapters where it was going, but boy did it take me on a tumultuous journey. This spans seventeen years and many changes. It is about loss, harsh reality, first love, family, secrets, and how messy and complicated life can be.

It features Morgan and her teen daughter, Clara, and we get both of their points-of-view. Morgan's life was changed years ago due to circumstances and she has been a stay-at-home wife and mother without much else to give her purpose. She is predictable and dependable, but unfulfilled. Clara feels overprotected and misunderstood at times. And she is just starting to entertain the idea that a boy she is crushing on might like her too. They have a close extended family that spends a lot of time together.

When they are faced with something that rocks their world to the core, they are both lost in grief, guilt, anger, and pain. There are layers of secrets and betrayals that Morgan is just realizing while wanting to protect her daughter. And they both have trouble communicating their own feelings, pain, and misplaced guilt. But due to the intense feelings of them both, they end up fighting more than supporting each other. The changing dynamics and hidden feelings they are each struggling with just seem to keep putting up more walls between them.

It is about the mother and daughter relationship and trying to regain trust and healing while also figuring out who they want to be. But it is also about two love stories and the power of connections and the possibility of soul mates. I loved the two major male leads. They were also both struggling with personal issues themselves and also trying to be there for Morgan and Clara. But the situations are complicated and at times added to the tension and infighting. But I adored their capacity for love and acceptance, and how they knew what they wanted even if they were not sure it was even a possibility.

It shows how the truth, no matter how painful, is better than lies. Humans have faults and make mistakes, but sometimes the only way to move on is to forgive. This book is so emotional and so realistic. The characters and all of their dynamic relationships are so well developed. I felt everything they did along the way...the good, the bad, and the ugly. Though there is a lot of pain, there is also humor, hope, healing, and romance. And I left it with a smile on my face and a repaired heart.

I am still thinking about this book a day later. It is definitely one of my top favorites of 2019 and one of Colleen Hoover's most powerful works.
My habit with Colleen’s books is to go into them with as blind as I can. I hadn’t even read the full synopsis before I started so it took me a few chapters to get a feel for where the book was going.

Morgan and Clara are mother and daughter facing devastating grief and life changes they never expected. Even before tragedy struck, they were each questioning in their own way. Morgan was feeling stagnant. Spending her life as a wife and mother, she was feeling like she didn’t know who she was anymore outside of her duties at home. Clara feels stifled by her parents’ rules and her desire for more independence. She isn’t going to make the same mistakes her parents did, so she doesn’t understand why they won’t let her make her own decisions.

Spanning seventeen years, narrated by mother and daughter, this was a very different “romance.” There are elements of romance in each woman’s storyline, and they are great, but what makes Regretting You stand out is the relationship between Morgan and Clara. Raising teenagers is difficult enough without major life events throwing massive amounts of grief, guilt, and confusion into the mix. These two have a lot going on at once, and how they handle it only serves to stress that hiding secrets only leads to more misunderstanding.

The male leads in both generations are dealing with their own upheaval as well. I loved the way each generation faced challenges that fit not only their age/stage of life, but drive the story along and keep the pages turning. I loved both of these guys for different reasons, and while there were times the teenagers made me roll my eyes (as only one who has lived through the teenage years and lived to reflect on them can), but even as the angst was high it was still perfect for the story.

From the very first page, this story pulled me in and kept me thinking. I am always amazed at Colleen’s ability to write contemporary with something fresh every single time. This one had me reflecting on a lot of things in life including my relationship with my mother during my teenage years, and my relationship with my own teenager. Regretting You is filled with so many layers and so much authentic feeling!
So much angst but oh so good!

Regretting You is raw. It is reality. It is grief and healing. It is young love and old love. It is secrets. It is spiraling out of control. It is keeping your composure and sacrificing. It is rebellion. It is consequences. It is tragedy. It is betrayal. It is friendships. It is truths. It is learning to live again. It is growth.

All of this made for an emotional wreck. A roller-coaster ride of turmoil and realism. But mixed in with all that strife was a mother and daughter learning to navigate a new set of rules. A new relationship. A new dimension.

Regretting You is everything this girl didn't even know she needed and more.

I will say I had a small issue. There was a certain part I wanted more of. Not because the author didn't give closure. Because she did. The character got the exact closure she needed; one that CoHo felt was vital. No this closure was for me. I am a nosy bitch, and I wanted answers. There were too many questions. Too many what ifs and what the hells. I wanted to know exactly what happened. I didn't need this closure for any of the characters. The closure they got allowed them to move on to the future they needed. I wanted these answers just for my nosy and selfish self.

Even with that small thing, I would definitely recommend this CoHo book.
