One night, Callum is driven into the woods by instinct, an instinct to protect… what, he does not know. Until he, in the form of wolf, meets a young, human child who he is instantly drawn to in a fierce way he doesn’t quite understand.

But in the end, she protects him. Then he finds this human child is his destined mate.

Sonia Arlington has lived a lonely life. She has certain abilities that make her strange and she has a rare disease that, if untreated, could kill her. Her mother and father are assassinated but before, her father makes her vow that she will never let others discover her abilities. This forces Sonia to stay distant from others, no family, no close friends and always guarding against exposure.

Then the intelligence leaks that Sonia is Callum’s human mate. He is now King of the Werewolves and therefore she becomes targeted by the wolves who have aligned with other immortals to enslave the human race. Callum has war on his hands and is forced to claim his mate and quickly integrate Sonia into a world that is strange and frightening to her.

As Sonia attempts to adjust, not entirely successfully, Callum attempts to cope with the knowledge that his mate is mortal. He will have her beauty and gentleness only the length of a mortal life and as werewolves only have one mate their entire lives, their union for him is unbearably bitter as well as unbelievably sweet.

Then he finds that due to her illness, her human life will be even shorter and he is forced to endure the increased bitter while doing everything he can to make Sonia’s short life incredibly sweet.

Kim's Review:
I have been anticipating this so long so was thrilled when it showed up on Amazon early! Of course, it just made me want to read about Callum when I was supposed to be preparing for Thanksgiving. But a new KA book does kind of shake up my priorities. I stayed up til 12:30 for 2 nights to finish.

The prologue was very intriguing. I love the whole idea of the prophecies and destiny. I think how she met her "puppy" as a child and was so protective of him while he was in turn protective of her was very sweet. We learned of the prophecies in book 1. Three Sets of Lifemates would bring harmony to the Human, vampire and werewolf worlds so they could coexist in peace. Callum and Sonia were destined to be the 2nd couple.

It was bigger than him, bigger than his brethren, bigger and more important than anything. He's die for her.

"You're my mate, Sonia, my queen,"..."You were destined for me before you were even conceived. I've been waiting for you for longer than you can imagine."

Callum. The Wolf. Her Puppy. Visitor of her dreams... I loved him! He was a hot, bossy, alpha male used to getting his own way and not having to answer to anyone. He was in control and a fierce protector. But he was not very adept in human relationships.

There was something about him. It was more than the fact that he was incredibly good-looking(but that helped). More than the sharp intelligence in his blue eyes. More than the rich depth of his attractively accented voice. More than his manner filled with absolute confidence and exhibited through every movement of his powerful body and every word he spoke. It was the quite yet fierce force of his personality which was compelling and nearly impossible to resist.

Sonia. She was kind of an enigma...Very reserved and proper in some ways. And hot and fiery in others. She had spent her life guarded, lonely, and sad despite being loved by many friends. You realize this mystery condition she has is going to be an integral part of the story(and I did figure it out ahead of time.)

Their communication issues were a mess. They had cultural issues, omissions, half truths, misconceptions, quick tempers, and fear coming in between them. I especially wanted to shout at Sonia sometimes. But they were fun whether they were fighting or together. There were some sweet and emotional moments in the times when Callum literally had to force her to listen to him and talk to him. But most of the time Callum was just clueless and thought she understood how much he loved her and he did not really understand how humans could guard their hearts and hold a grudge. But they had an uncontrolled attraction and need for each other and their feelings shook them to the core. And when they were together it was HOT! And tender.

"Come to your wolf, baby doll."

"You love me?""With everything I am, baby doll, and everything I'm meant to be."

I really liked the werewolf world better than the vampires in the first book. They are just warmer, funnier, and so loyal. His brothers and mother and their relationship with Sonia were as important as hers with Callum. I would not mind seeing his cousin Ryon or his brothers find their mates in future stories. I have to say I enjoyed vampire Lucien and his lifemate Leah coming to visit in this book. Their relationship is now very supportive of each other and of Sonia and Callum so it was a nice addition.

I could not stop reading as I had to know what would come of Sonia and her part in the prophecy. It was heartbreaking to see how Callum was trying to come to terms with the fact that she was mortal and he was not. And how he hated to see her in pain. I just had to keep reading to get to that climax and see how it would all resolve.

I am looking forward to learning more about the 3rd couple of the Prophecy in the next book.

If you have not read Until The Sun Falls From The Sky, the first book in The Three Series, you can check it out on Goodreads and buy it at Amazon, Smashwords or Barnes and Noble.
