He saw her first, but his friend made the move.

She settled for the safer choice, but her heart knew the truth.

They love, they crave, they lie.

Garrett McCarthy, Annabelle Parker, and Milo Roberts were as close as friends could get. They shared in each other's joy during graduations, promotions, and engagements. They consoled one another through heartache and loss.

When one of the friend's life is tragically cut short, it's up to the two left behind to pick up the pieces and find out the truth - no matter the cost. As they slowly start to uncover the nature of his deception, and the very powerful people behind it, they begin to question everyone and everything, even themselves.

Everyone has secrets - some do it for love while others do it for power. Those secrets can change perceptions, alter reality and sometimes destroy lives.

What do you do when you find out your whole life has been a lie?

WOW! What a ride!
This review is kind of hard to write because I do not want to post any spoilers or give anything away. After reading the blurb and teasers I had preconceived ideas of what this book was going to be about. I was so totally wrong.

This book builds slowly showing the relationships of the three main characters Garrett, Milo, and Parker. Garrett and Milo are Navy SEALs and Parker is a famous photographer.  One saw her first. The other was more assertive. But for eight years they were as close as you could get. They shared their lives, loved one another, and supported each other. One had her and one had her heart.

She'd always think back to that moment over the coming years and wonder what would have happened if things had been different. If only one of the boys had come into the coffee shop or if she had just listened to her brain instead of her heart and said no to that first date. Her life was forever changed as soon as those boys sat down next to her, and she needed to remind herself over and over that it happened exactly how it was meant to. She would never give up having those two men in her life no matter what happened or how much she had to compromise her feelings or lock her thoughts way in a  secret compartment in her heart. They were her life, her best friends, and her family. But if you were given the chance to go back, to tell the truth instead of lie to save someone's life and their feelings...would you?

There were underlying feelings of guilt, fear, loneliness, and love. And even though on the surface they were the best of friends, their relationships were hiding half truths, secrets, and lies.

Just when you are figuring out they dynamics of the relationships, the first big surprise hits you. Wham! Did not see that coming! Then the book totally shifts gears. This book was full of suspense, mystery, lies, omissions, betrayal, romance, intrigue, and danger. There were so many twists and turns. The last half of the book, I could not flip pages fast enough to find out what was going to happen. And once you thought there could be no more plot twists, BAM you were hit with another one! This book made me lose sleep since I could not put it down and it put me through the ringer.

I loved Garrett. He was so protective and caring, but insecure and vulnerable too. Parker was strong, capable, and determined. It was hard to see them struggling with feelings they did not think they should express.  There was so much underlying chemistry between them. But at the same time he was so loyal to his friend.

“If you were mine, I would never be able to walk away from you.  If you were mine, I’d worship every inch of your body with my hands, lips, and tongue.  If you were mine,  I wouldn’t be able to stand in the same room as you without running my hands over your skin and tasting your lips. If you were mine…”

This book totally pulled me in, kept me enthralled,  and blew me away! I felt like this story was complete when I finished it. I loved having an epilogue. I am interested to see where she takes this Playing With Fire series in the 2nd installment.

T. E. Sivec nailed this genre even though this romantic suspense book is a huge departure for her. She also writes as Tara Sivec. Her Chocolate Lovers series is one of my all time favorites, but it is not anything at all like this. Those books are crude, hilarious, snarky and so much fun. We featured them on our 12 Favorite Reads of 2012.

**I want to thank T.E. Sivec for providing with an ARC of this amazing book in exchange for an honest review.
