Amelia Benbridge is ready to leave behind a past filled with heartbreak
for a sensible marriage. Until temptation itself comes calling, with an
invitation to seduction...
She Loved and Lost Him Once...
Amelia Benbridge and the Earl of Ware are the most anticipated match of the Season. Lord Ware is handsome, wealthy, and kind, and he understands that her love will always belong to her childhood sweetheart, Colin. When Colin died, Amelia believed she would never feel such passion again. But her primal reaction to the brooding stranger who approaches her at a masquerade, coaxing her into a moonlit minuet and a single, sensual kiss, proves otherwise...
Colin Mitchell knew a pairing between a peer's daughter and a gypsy stable boy was impossible. Amelia's mistaken belief in his demise afforded him the opportunity to return to her as a man of means. But time has slipped through his fingers. She is preparing to wed another, and danger prevents him from revealing the truth. Colin can only bid her a secret farewell, but he underestimates her determination to unmask her phantom admirer. A forbidden kiss leads to her ardent pursuit and a soul-scorching affair. Amelia is perfectly attuned to his every desire, every thought—and hungry for stability he can't offer her. For deception lies at the heart of their love, waiting to drive them apart once again...

Kim's Review:
Amelia has risen above the shady past of her family and is close to being engaged to the Earl of Ware. They are friends and close, but Amelia cannot forgot the boy she loved and lost.
So when she sees a mysterious masked man at a masquerade ball staring at her that immediately sets of a reaction in her, she is surprised. She is determined to find out more about the mysterious stranger.
There was a mask between them and endless secrets.
They are completely drawn to each other and share amazing chemistry even as he continues to hide his identity. But will his lies , his true identity and his dangerous life style be the end of them before they can begin?
"We are having visceral reactions to to one another, Count Montoya. As attractive as you are, I would venture to say that you are accustomed to snaring women's interest. For my part, I can say with absolute certainty that a similar situation has never happened to me before."
"I have felt this way about only one other man, and he is lost to me, as your love is to you."
Danger lurks at every corner and by the last part of the book there are so many people after the hero and it seems like this couple might have too much going against them.
"If my circumstances were different, nothing could keep me from making you mine."
The hero is strong, determined, loving, and trying to deal with all of the danger coming at them. Amelia has the ability to socialize with the upper crust of society while also sharing time with more undesirable people. She is not afraid to be herself and go after what she wants. They have good chemistry and rapport.
Her sister Maria and her husband the Pirate Christopher St. John from the 2nd book Passion for the Game also appear in this book and are involved in all of the chaos.
It is definitely written as Historical fiction and the language reflects that.
