They're finally together. But the Universe seems intent on tearing them apart…

Rory Clarke might not be Lucah Blythe's boss anymore, but that doesn't mean they can sneak off to the boardroom for hot sex whenever they want. Keeping their hands off each other in the workplace is harder than they could have imagined, and that's not the only obstacle they have to deal with. Between Lucah's troublesome brother Ryder, and Rory's bff Sloane's inability to understand locked doors, they're drowning in drama.

But it's only about to get a lot worse when a blast from Lucah's past surfaces, and chaos at Clarke Enterprises threatens to take away everything Rory has worked so hard for. Can the couple weather the storm and surrender to each other, or will the challenges of staying together destroy their relationship for good?

The elevator opened and we both heaved a sigh of relief when it was empty.
“After you, Miss Clarke,” he said, gesturing to the blissfully empty elevator.
“Thank you, Mr. Blythe.” As soon as the doors clicked closed, that three feet of space was gone.
“Hello, Miss Clarke.” Lucah said into my mouth.
“Hello, Mr. Blythe.” His entire body pressed against me, and my skin ignited under my clothes. Clothes. Such pesky things. Always getting in the way.
Our mouths started a feverish dance of lips and tongues and sometimes clashing teeth and noses. I didn’t care, he didn’t care, it was all about getting close, close, closer.
But there was something else in his mouth that I wasn’t used to having there during working hours. I pulled back to look at him. Of course, he had been waiting for that. Slowly, he stuck his tongue out. It took me a second to see, but he’d replaced his silver tongue barbell with a clear plastic one that was only visible close up. I tried to touch it, but he sucked his tongue back into his mouth.
“Aren’t we clever?” I said as his hands roamed all over my back and under my skirt. My hands were on his chest, and I could just barely feel his nipple ring through his jacket and dress shirt. My rebel in a suit.
“I’m ready for you, Sunshine.” He grabbed my ass and yanked me close, and he was ready. “Do you want me inside you?” he growled in my ear, grinding his hips against me.
“No, not really,” I said, trying to make my voice nonchalant, which was very hard to do when he was rubbing right where I wanted him most. God, I could come from just this. He laughed in my ear and moved his hand deftly under up my skirt and past my panties.

“Liar.”

Rory and Lucah are now living together, working in the same company (although he is no longer her assistant/corporate spy), and living down the hall from her bestie Sloane. They are navigating their new relationship, enjoying frequent sexy times, and dealing with new work issues. They are also meeting and spending time with each other's families. It starts out pretty sweet, but it is not long before they are facing some significant challenges in their lives and having to deal with the drama and fall out and make adjustments.

...the pain was between us. So many things that seemed to be getting between us lately. But I trusted him, trusted us. Trusted what we had.

I enjoyed seeing the progression in their relationship since the first book and how much more open and honest they are now with each other. Their chemistry is still hot and they still have a hard time controlling themselves. But their new relationship has to undergo some more trials.

I adore Lucah! He is outspoken, confidant, funny, supportive, and completely enamored of Rory.  He is good to her friends and just an all around great guy especially now that he is able to be honest about everything in his life. He is finally putting down roots after living a nomadic existence as a corporate spy. But he struggles with guilt about letting his brother down and still is affected by loss in his past. He literally broke my heart a couple of times when we got to see his deep emotions and fear.

"I love you so much that I can't breathe sometimes. How did I find you?"

Rory is sassy, smart, and just a bit OCD and neurotic. But she is strong and capable. She is a Vice President with power and position, but also really cares about those around her and doing the right thing. She has some family issues of her own to worry about that are all tied up with her Dad's company. And she is also training a new assistant very different from Lucah.

Rory's best friend and former roomie, Sloane is a busy fashion designer who loves to take care of her friends. But she is a bit lonely and depressed since Rory moved in with Lucah...even if they are right down the hall. She is passionate, hilarious, and a little bit intrusive. She also has just a bit of a crush on Lucah's brother, Ryder.

"He lights my fire. Blows my skirt up. Pushes my buttons. However you want to say it. That boy makes me f***ing hot."

Ryder is a big mess. He is troubled, has a checkered past, and lots of current issues. But I loved his sense of humor and outspoken personality. He has a magnetism about him even when being an asshole, and he grew on me more and more.

Ryder had done it all. Sex, drugs, and rock and roll, leaving a trail of heartbroken women in his wake.

I loved them as a foursome and their interactions that ran the gamut from akwardness to humor to tension to passion at a fast pace. I see a lot of potential for Ryder and Sloane and I  am looking forward to more in the future with them. I also liked seeing more with Ryder and Lucah's other brother, Tate and his wife and their girls. The kids added extra humor and adventures.

This was a funny, fast paced, sexy, and engaging sequel told in Rory's point of view. It had corporate intrigue, beautiful exes, bad boy brothers, lonely friends, traumatic situations, and forbidden workplace romance (although they were out of the closet with more people this time, it is still against the rules). The characters are quirky and likable. There are multiple story lines occurring causing drama. There are steamy scenes and passion. And even a little emotional turmoil thrown in. I really enjoyed this sweet, sexy, and humorous installment. I am so glad that there will be another book in this series, Dark Surrendering with more of Sloane and Ryder. And I am sure we will see more of Lucah, Rory, and her friends Marisol and Fin. There are definitely some story lines that can continue.

Kim's 4.5 star review

She’s his boss. He doesn’t care. This office isn’t big enough for the two of them…

When Rory Clarke ends up hiring the guy she spent one steamy night with to be her administrative assistant, she's determined to keep things professional.

Lucas Blaine has other plans for her. He wants Rory, and it’s hard to resist his stunning blue eyes, chin dimple and the way he fills out a suit. Everywhere she looks, there he is, giving her a panty-melting smile and pulling her away for the most amazing (and satisfying) sex she’s ever had in her life.

What starts off as one sexual encounter turns into multiple trysts in and out of the office and the lines she’d tried to draw so carefully are blurring. But the closer they get, the more Rory realizes that there are things about Lucas she doesn’t know, things he’s hiding from her. She’ll have to decide if she can surrender to her feelings or get out while she still can.
