Thea Landry has always known her place in modern-day society. It’s somewhere just above the trash can her mother dumped her in as a newborn but below the class where much comes easy. With her tattered shoes and bargain-bin clothes, her life has never been full of glamour.

So when a rich and charismatic man takes interest, she doesn’t fool herself into thinking their encounter is anything more than a one-night stand. Months later, she’s kicking herself for not getting his phone number. Or his last name. She’s given up hope of seeing him ever again.

Until one day, years later, Logan Kendrick waltzes into her life once more and turns everything she’s built upside down. This time around, she won’t make the same mistake. She’s going to fight to keep him in her life—not for herself.

But for their daughter.
This new world by Devney Perry brings all new characters and places to fall in love with. And I was totally sucked in. And it has a small tie in with the Jamison Valley series that fans will pick up on, but this is a complete stand alone story.
Thea Landry is a single mother who runs a bar in Montana. She has had a rough life and has now made a home and  family with people that care about her. She is fierce, protective, and loving when it comes to her child, but untrusting and fearful when it comes to giving her heart.

When Logan Kendrick walks into a bar in Montana during a business trip, he never expected to run into his one night stand from years ago...or discover that she had his child. He is a rich, successful, work-a-holic who lives in New York. He can win any case or business deal, but winning over his almost six year old daughter and her mother might be the hardest task yet.
I loved seeing Thea and Logan reconnect. The separation and secret was not a malicious thing, but just a result of bad timing and failed communication. They had such strong chemistry and this magnetic pull that they could not deny. But at the same time they were both dedicated to their daughter's comfort and happiness. During the present time they are given to learn about each other, they become close. But they are from two different worlds, not just in distance but also circumstances and experiences. And they are both strongly attached to where they live. They are stealing happiness, but living in limbo with no real solution for the long term.

This is a sweet, heartfelt, second chance love story. And it is not just the love of a man and woman, but also of a man falling in love with his child. It is told in dual points of view and I really liked both Thea and Logan. They were well developed and their pasts and circumstances shaped the people they had become. I loved them together and how they interacted with their daughter, Charlie. She was a precocious tomboy who was a scene stealer. My heart broke for them because they knew what they wanted, but it seemed impossible. Separations were painful. Duty and obligation seemed to be in the way of happiness and love. And either option left someone unhappy and made them sacrifice something important.

I loved the contrast of the small-town lakeside feel versus the chaos of New York.
The side characters were interesting and I am already looking forward to seeing some of them in future installments of this Lark Cove series. There was also a bit of suspense and mystery in the background that added some drama. But this was not incredibly angsty. The characters were mature and responsible. It was more about priorities, passion, and figuring out what home really means. My heart was invested from beginning to end.

Thea Landry knows where she belongs. She has worked hard to build what she has -- bartending in the bar owned by the family she created after growing up in an orphanage. The small Montana town is everything she wants from a home. An amazing one night stand leaves her wishing she had asked the man for his phone number or last name, even though she knows he is out of her league.

Years later, when her one night stand walks into her bar she is determined to make things right, but not for herself. She needs him now for their daughter.

I loved both of these main characters. Thea is so strong. She does what needs doing to make the most of her situation. Carrying the emotional hurt from her childhood, she is determined to give her daughter the love she felt like she was missing as a child. Logan is a driven businessman, with a strong sense of loyalty to family.

Their story made me sigh and want to fight right alongside them to clear their obstacles, because they have some big ones! From location, to parenting, to blending families, and work responsibilities there are a lot of pieces for Thea and Logan to sort out, especially as it becomes clear that the “thing” they felt during that first night still simmers between them.

The side characters were a great addition to the story, both as an individual story and as the beginning of a series. I loved Charlie’s personality. She showed influences from her mom, but was uniquely her own person. Several of the other side characters should make for an interesting focus as the series develops, and I look forward to more from Lark Cove and Devney Perry.

He stared at me for a long moment. “You’re sure she’s mine?”
“She’s yours.”
“Then that’s good enough.”
“I—really?” I blinked. He didn’t want to verify paternity? He just . . . trusted me?
He nodded. “Really.”
“I swear, I tried to find you, Logan. On my life, I swear it. But the hotel wouldn’t give me your name no matter how much I begged. And you paid cash for your drinks and never mentioned your last name. I tried, but I just . . . didn’t know where to start.”
“It’s not your fault. I believe you.”
The sincerity in his voice made my throat burn. Goddamn it. I was going to cry.
I’d worked so hard not to cry today. I’d fought to keep my emotions in check and my head from spinning out of control. But this was going to make me break.
I wanted so badly for Logan to believe that I hadn’t kept Charlie from him intentionally. The fact that a man like him would trust someone like me without proof meant more than he’d ever know.
“Thank you,” I choked out past the lump in my throat.
“So, um, is Charlie inside with your husband? Or boyfriend?”
The urge to cry disappeared and I barked out a laugh. “Smooth.”
He chuckled. “It’s been a long day for me. Give me a break, will you? This morning I was in New York, then I came to Montana for a business meeting and discovered a daughter. I’m off my game.”
