Blog Tour: Code Name: Rook: Sawyer Bennett
Being a highly skilled operative for a company like Jameson Force Security is exhilarating and important work…until it comes time to date. I like to keep my profession under wraps for a number of reasons. Some of what we do is top secret, most of what we do is dangerous, and more than one woman has tried to latch onto me because she was more enamored with what I do than who Cage Murdock really is. And since I’m more of a ‘here for the night’ than a ‘here for forever’ kind of guy, what’s the harm in a little white lie about my job?
My harmless deceit has never failed me. Until now. Because I met the most amazing woman and did the unthinkable. I married her. And now my beautiful, unsuspecting, probably-going-to-leave-my-sorry-behind-when-she-finds-out-the-truth wife doesn’t know that I’m not a used car salesman like I told her when we met.
As it typically does with lies, the truth is about to come out in a big way when Jaime unwittingly gets herself mixed up with some unsavory characters and I, along with the team at Jameson, have to intervene. Now I need to save my girl and hope I can save my marriage too. Let’s just say I have some serious explaining to do.
We got a bit of these two in Code Name: Ghost but the pertinent info is relayed in this one and some scenes we see from alternate points of view.
Cage Murdock is an ex-Navy Seal and tough, skilled operative and focuses mostly on work. So when he goes out, it is just for hooking up and no commitments. He is hot and charming, and it is easier to get rid of women if his job is something boring...like a car salesman. One night he ends up taking home a prize and realizes the next day that he might just not be done with her yet.
Jaime is smart, sweet, gorgeous, and a good person. She works as a social worker helping domestic violence victims. She just expected a one night stand to get over her recent break-up, but Cage is different.
They did not expect to like each other or want to spend more time together. Their chemistry is hot and their personalities just jive. A man who does not date finds himself dating, but he is sure he will eventually get spooked or ruin it. One thing leads to another and things are getting more serious. But this lie he told her and continues to reinforce is just hanging over his head. And she is a woman that values trust, honesty, and respect.
When the truth comes out will she understand or is he going to blow the best thing to ever happen to him? Cage just might be up for one of his biggest missions and fights in order to earn her forgiveness and hopefully have a chance at keeping her.
This is a sweet, sexy, playboy-finds-true-love-when-least-expects-it romance with just a bit of suspense. I truly wanted to smack Cage upside the head a few times, but he is still a good and determined guy. And Jaime is an intelligent and passionate woman who is not going to settle. I really liked them together.
This brings back many of the Jameson Security team including some newer members. I enjoy visiting with the couples we know and am intrigued by a few of the newer people. I am already excited about the premise of the next book that was teased.

Cage Murdock is not a relationship kind of guy. As such, he is used to giving out fake details about his job and other aspects of his life to avoid awkward morning after expectations. He thinks nothing of telling Jaime he is a used car salesman rather than the secret operative he really is. When they make a very real connection and he wants to continue getting to know her he knows he needs to find a time to come clean. But his lie catches up to him when they get married quickly and he still hasn’t found the time to come clean. Will she be able to forgive the lie when she learns the truth? Or will his lie doom them before they’ve hardly begun?
Jaime wasn’t expecting to find a spark when she brought Cage home, but what started as a one night thing quickly leads to more. She is caring, compassionate and empathetic. Her job has her constantly facing the fallout of domestic violence and bad relationships, giving her a low tolerance for deception and lies. She is close with her family, and knows they always have her back.
Parts of the beginning of this story played out in the background of Code Name: Ghost, so readers of the series will recognize several scenes though this time from a different point of view. I appreciated the scenes we didn’t get to see (that he didn’t share with Anna in Ghost) and the added insight to the relationship these scenes gave. There were times some of the repetition made the story slow down for me, but I also enjoyed seeing Jaime’s perspective of the familiar events. But, when the stuff hits the wall and Jaime needs help, his secret is blown and though he is fairly sure he can save his wife, he isn’t as certain he can save his marriage.
I love the Jameson family, and Cage has long been a favorite with his fun-loving, carefree way. I loved watching him fall for Jaime, and though I was frustrated with his little lie that quickly turned huge the longer he went without coming clean (and was frustrated as Anna was in Ghost), he was so much fun to watch as he navigated a relationship. While these two were quick to walk the aisle, their story did not end with their vows, as Cage’s secrets hung over their heads. I loved watching him do his thing and then have to figure out how to make things right with Jaime to save what has become such an important part of his life in a very short time: his marriage.
