Release Blitz: A Little Too Close: Rebecca Yarros
Callie Thorne is a single mom who has lived on the mountain for over a decade. She is surprised to find out she will now be sharing a duplex with one of the long-lost Madigan brothers, especially the one that took care of her and gave her a job when she needed it most and then disappeared. She is a devoted, protective, outspoken, mom and photographer.
They are determined to make the roommate situation work due to the circumstances. They even set rules. But Weston starts to realize what it means to have people to care about and to enjoy spending time with. And Callie begins to see how it could be to have a partner helping her and being protective of her daughter. And the sexual tension and chemistry are not going away. So they try to convince themselves that they can work through their urges and not mess anything up. Rules are meant to be broken. But they may be getting a bit too close.
Callie is falling hard for a man who swears he will never give his heart away or be hurt by loss again. But by doing so will he only be hurting them all in the long run?
This brings back his brother, Reed, his love, Ava, their friends, and the Madigan patriarch we met in the first book. And it paves the way for the third book with the reckless youngest brother, Crew. I am looking forward to the conclusion of this trilogy in A Little Too Wild.
Calliope (Callie) is a single mom who has been working at the mountain since before her daughter was born as the mountain’s photographer. She once dreamed of traveling the globe taking award winning photographs, but mostly spends her days capturing the smiles of families visiting the mountain.
When Weston arrives on the mountain, the only employee residence left is the other half of Callie’s apartment. Since Weston refuses to set foot in his childhood home, they create a list of house rules to ensure that they can live together without drama. Should be easy right?
I love a good close proximity romance, especially when you add in the extras of the single mom and ex-military. It doesn’t take long before Weston and Callie are breaking their own rules, first in little ways and eventually in ways that can’t be ignored. These two had great chemistry, and no amount of rules were going to keep things platonic for long.
Weston comes with his own crew of side characters in this one -- Theo, Maria, and their families made for some very funny moments. It is clear that they have a deep bond and the ribbing they give Weston over some of his character traits had me rolling (as evidence of just how well they know him). And don’t get me started on Sutton, Callie’s daughter. I loved the way she inserted herself into the story in very creative, tweenager type ways.
As the second of three Madigan Mountain stories, this continued the theme of repairing some of the pains of the past, forgiving, and finding family in unexpected moments. I can’t wait to see what it’ll take to bring Crew home, because he has avoided the Mountain just as much as his older brothers.
