From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Mia Sheridan comes her next novel in the Pelion Lake series.

How is it possible that perfect Gage Buchanan is still single after all these years?

He can't quite figure it out himself. Perhaps he hasn't met the right woman. Maybe he's spent too many years focusing on work―or maybe he just isn't as perfect as everyone thinks he is.

Gage thought he left his days of one-night stands behind him, however something about the gorgeous cocktail waitress in a town three hours away is far too intriguing. But when she shows up weeks later in his hometown, Calliope, pretending to be an art appraiser, Gage is completely blindsided―not to mention still very attracted to the (apparent) little liar. He can't figure her out: not her angle nor the persistent pull between them.

Aurora "Rory" Casteel is determined to find her father. All she knows from her late mother is that he lives in Calliope and he's an important part of the town. So when Rory's gallery-owning friend offers to run cover for her while she sleuths around town, she jumps at the chance. But she doesn't anticipate the man she spent one wild night with turning out to be a local.

Sure, it puts a wrinkle in Rory's plan, but she can work around Gage Buchanan. Even as it gets harder to pretend her heart doesn't flip every time he's in the room. She has a suspicion he isn't everything he seems, either, but maybe it's "perfect" Gage's flaws that are what she's really drawn to.

A woman and a man cross paths for one intense night. They are opposites in a lot of ways, but are both feeling a bit, restless and unsettled in their current lives.

Gage Buchanan is seen as "Mr. Perfect". He’s from an affluent family, charming, smart, and well-liked.  He seems to be on track for meeting his family business goals and is ready to embark on a new adventure with his life and career. But there’s still something missing. He knows he’s been looking for someone to settle down with, but he just hadn’t found them yet.

Rory Casteel works at her family's bar in the small dock town of Mud Gorge. She’s snarky, intelligent, sly, and loyal. She’s been raised as a townie, but she feels a pull to another place to find out more about her mother's past and her unknown father.

Rory and Gage had this one night and then said their quick goodbye they never expected to run into each other again. And Gage certainly never expected her to show up in his hometown going by a different name and occupation.

These two give good banter. They're sarcastic and they challenge and they taunt each other. But they’ve also got this undeniable chemistry and spark. They get under each other's skin.

It’s fun seeing the normally unflappable, in-control Gage get riled up. She makes him act so uncharacteristically that it’s comical. I loved seeing this different side of him and his obsession with searching out the truth. But then I also enjoyed them working together to try to find her answers.

This is ultimately about them finding a connection that makes them look at life differently. Rory literally shakes up Gage's life, and the layers of his perfect persona start to crack. But most importantly, she truly sees him and makes him look deep into his heart to figure out what his hopes and dreams are versus the expectations of others.

It’s messy and chaotic, but inspiring, hopeful, and passionate. But he lives in a community where they are used to him being in control, focused, driven, and always doing the right thing and following set expectations. And Rory does not fit the mold of the right kind of girl. The underlying mystery subplot throughout the story as they try to find answers for Rory adds more interest and depth.

It’s a
snarky, witty, passionate, failed one-night-stand, small-town, opposites-attract, soulmates kind of love story that brought these two searching people unexpectedly together and was a catalyst for change. It's about fate, family, trust, purpose, passion, and living life to the fullest.

It brings back Archer and Bree, Travis and Haven, and other townspeople of Calliope and Pelion. I also liked her two protective uncles, Cassius and Romeo from Mud Gorge. And Haven's brother, Easton still interests me.  I hope we see more in this small-town series. I thoroughly enjoyed this one.

Review of
This pulled me in from the beginning and the narrators made Gage and Rory jump off the page for me. I can’t imagine anyone else in those roles. I knew I needed to read Gage’s story after we saw his involvement in Travis. Gage has always been a good guy in town and I loved the opportunity to follow his story.

Gage grew up on one side of the lake: privileged, well liked, all around good guy from a well off family. He is expected to continue the family business and every decision he has made has been to help his family and bring him closer to his father’s expectations of him.

Rory grew up on the other side of the lake, in a completely different situation than Gage. She works tirelessly to support her family and keep the family business afloat. She was raised by a single mom surrounded by loving uncles from a family that is drawn to the water. But her draw has never been to the water -- instead her draw has always eluded her.

A chance encounter sparked by a flat tire, and a slide down a muddy road leads to more sparks as Gage and Rory take advantage of the situation and the chemistry that builds immediately between them.

As the story continues, a mystery develops that has them questioning what little they know about each other. This mystery also causes a slight slow burn to develop as they pump the brakes on anything between them.

This felt a lot lighter than the other Pelion novels, and I loved the rapport and banter that rose up because of it. There was one aspect of a side plot that added some emotional tension but also had me conflicted about if I could cheer for them or not. I love this world and love everytime I can return to it.
