At Santa Cruz Central High School, they called them the misfits, the outcasts, the weirdos. But most of us knew them as the Lost Boys...
Ronan Wentz has been to hell and back, and he carries the scars to prove it. Worse, the blood of a monster runs through his veins. After ten years in foster care, eighteen-year-old Ronan is finally reunited with family. His uncle gives him roof over his head and puts him to work, managing a shabby apartment complex in Santa Cruz, California.
But a second chance is still a second chance. Ronan becomes a solitary hunter, a vigilante, walking the streets at night to keep the nightmares at bay. If he can use the anger burning in his tainted blood to protect instead of hurt, maybe then he'll find the absolution he seeks.
Then he meets Shiloh.
Shiloh Barrera looks like she has it all together. Smart, ambitious and full of artistic creativity she channels into making beautiful one-of-kind jewelry. But Shiloh's cool, capable demeanor is all a front. Her demons drive her to succeed as much as her ambition. To prove her worth to the mother who can't stand to look at her, and who's harboring secrets of her own.
When Shiloh and Ronan meet, the physical attraction is instant and scorching. Neither believe it will last. Falling in love is an impossible pipe dream saved for those less shattered and damaged than they are.
But as hard as they try to resist, the growing feelings between them seem inevitable... until one terrible night destroys Shiloh's dreams and Ronan's future. When the smoke clears, and the rubble settles, they'll have to choose - do their pasts determine their future, or can they build a new one from the broken pieces of their hearts?
Lost Boys is a new series of interconnected, coming-of-age standalones from USA Today bestselling author Emma Scott.
6 brilliant stars to the QUEEN of crazy, emotional roller coaster rides.
Holy. F**k.
Ronan completely and utterly wrecked me.
I FELT every little piece of his and Shi's journey. I'm still reeling. I advise you to have tissues close by. No lies when I tell you the tears will flow from your eyes and you'll experience so much gut wrenching pain that you'll feel it right down to your soul. You will NOT walk away unscathed. These characters, all of them, will stay with you for a very, very long time.
Forewarning: there is nothing easy about Ronan and Shiloh. Not their lives. Not their relationship. Not their friendship. Nothing. They work their asses off for every ounce of happiness they experience. They'll take one step forward and 10 steps back. But I promise watching them grow and learn to love will be so fucking worth ever sob and sniffle.
I knew from the beginning Ronan's story wasn't going to be all sunshine and glitter. I was drawn immediately to his brokenness. I knew when I got to him and his love that I'd be put through the wringer and Scott did just that. She didn't pull any punches. She didn't coddle the anguish and affliction we as readers were about to experience. She hit and she hit hard. She took me to my fucking knees with every poignant and intricate detail of the story she told. Emma Scott may have wrote about two characters in a book, but Ronan and Shiloh were so much more than that to me. They felt more like real people. My people. I connected with them on a personal level. A level that I was able to not just sympathize but also empathize.
And I'm going to be honest, I almost walked away from Ronan and Shiloh. I was a bit bored at the beginning with some of the rehashing. So I stepped away for a couple of days and I came back to them. I'm so glad I did. To think of what I would have missed if I'd called this a DNF. What a shame that would have been.
So, if you are looking for an intense, affecting read with beautifully flawed characters look no further. Ronan and Shiloh won't disappoint. They'll take you down a road of self-identity, love, loss, loyalty, exploration, healing, hope, and acceptance. They'll also take you down the raw, gritty side of life.
Another read that deserves more than five stars! This series has just broken my heart and put it back together so many times. And Ronan and Shiloh's story was no exception. I could not put it down.
We have always known there was a strong connection between Ronan and Shiloh but they were also both closed off and a bit mysterious. But now we get to see their issues, demons, fears, and insecurities through their own points of view. And they both are struggling, but Shiloh just does a better job of hiding it. And Ronan puts on this tough facade that really covers the heart of a broken boy who thinks he needs to help and save everyone.
Oh, Ronan. Damaged, stoic, big-hearted, Ronan. We find out why he does what he does. How much the lost boys really mean to him. How self-sacrificing he is. But he was dealt a crappy hand in life and has never really had a stable, loving home. He is lost and just trying to find an anchor. He is loyal, protective, but struggles with self-worth and anger issues. He gives freely to others, but hates to take. He had my heart from the beginning and I felt so much for him all along the way.
And even if Shiloh has some stability, she also has her own deep wounds that make her guarded. But she has goals and is determined to make her dreams come true. She is stubborn, focused, and closed off. She does not need distractions, and Ronan is one big distraction.
But there is something that keeps pulling them together no matter how much they try to resist. It is not just the physical chemistry, but also a soul-deep connection. The push and pull is strong as they both have a need for self-preservation and also are protective of those they care about.

Both are looking for their own sense of identity. They are independent and have walls up. They hold a lot in and find it hard to share and be vulnerable. They are faced with external issues on top of their internal struggles. The world is cruel and full of people who like nothing more than to bring others down. My heart broke for them as they tried to navigate it.
This is an epic, emotional, intense, angsty love story with some suspense, obstacles, and surprises. It coincides and flows with the other stories in this series but is more of a companion novel that can also stand alone. We see some of the same events through different eyes with varying perceptions. This is Ronan and Shiloh's journey to find their own place in this world independent of their pasts. To find hope, healing, happiness, self-acceptance, self-worth, safety, and a true home. It is about friendship, found family, soul mates, and second chances.
Miller, Violet, Holden, River, Ronan, and Shiloh have all claimed pieces of my heart and this is one of my top favorite series ever. All have exceeded five-star reads. These characters are flawed, hurt, broken, but are strong, brave, smart protective, loving, and loyal. They are survivors and have had to face and overcome so much in an unforgiving world to find their happiness, acceptance, and love they so desperately needed. The bonds they develop are so solid and they truly would do anything for each other.
The ending and epilogues made my heart so incredibly happy that I had tears of joy in my eyes that my lost boys are not lost anymore, but I am sure going to miss them all.

Ronan Wentz has never had it easy. But after 10 years in foster care, he found a family member and moving to California is the second chance he was hoping for. But his uncle doesn’t want a bond, he wants an apartment manager, and though Ronan wants to finish high school, it won’t be easy. He wants to protect, and is driven to prevent wrongs from happening, but with his quick temper and vigilante stance, he finds trouble more often than not.
Shiloh Barrera looks like she has everything figured out - school, friends, and her future. But she is hiding from the pain of a mother who refuses to connect, and Shiloh doesn’t know why. She has a dream to build her own jewelry business and her great-grandmother, Bibi, would do anything to help her along if only Shiloh would accept the help.
They have quick chemistry and their physical relationship runs hot, but as they let down the physical barriers between them, they find the emotional walls tumbling as well. It wasn’t supposed to be anything serious - Shiloh was used to no-strings relationships and Ronan had never cared to form a connection before. But these two broken souls called to each other.
My heart broke for Ronan. He kept most of his past hidden from everyone around him - including his best friends, Miller and Holden. But the emotional scars from his childhood haunt him and cause him to react with physicality in ways that will have repercussions.
The emotional journey these two had was amazing and had me engrossed in their story from the very beginning. There were several twists in the story that I never saw coming and was floored by my intense reactions. All the Lost Boys play a part in Ronan and Shiloh’s story, though because of the overlapping timelines there is a significant period of time where Ronan is once again on his own. The bonds these boys formed during their senior year are strong and I loved watching them form, this time from Ronan’s perspective. I loved each of their stories for the emotional depth and unique situations and this was no exception.
