Release Blitz: THE BROOD: Devney Perry
The last thing Wilder Abbott needs is a houseguest. Solitude has been his stoic companion for nearly a decade. He prefers to brood over his mistakes in seclusion. Besides, he gets enough social interaction as a high school science teacher in Calamity, Montana.
But when his oldest friend calls, begging for a favor, Wilder begrudgingly agrees. For the next two months, he’ll give up his guest room to his friend’s little sister.
Iris Monroe isn’t the girl Wilder remembers. Gone is the shy, quiet mouse ten years his junior who always had her nose in a book. Grown-up Iris talks too much and asks too many questions, especially about his past. And her bright smile and clear blue eyes are hard to ignore.
Two months. He just has to survive two months. Except Iris is as nosy as she is beautiful. And his secrets prove hard to hide when she’s living under his roof.
Wilder Abbott is a High School science teacher in Calamity. He is broody, cranky, private, level-headed, and a loner. He struggles with guilt and pain so he moved to Montana to start over where no one knows his past. He values his solitude and is not a man with a social life or social media presence.
When his best friend calls and asks for a favor, he feels he cannot say no. And suddenly he has a house guest. Danny's younger sister needs a place to stay for a couple of months.
Iris Monroe is an influencer, wanderer, and adventurer. She travels the world and spends two months at different locations and makes a living that way. She is unconventional, free-spirited, vibrant, talkative, inquisitive, and has an edgy style. She has followers who love her, haters that want to tear her down, and a family that does not understand her.
She blows into his home like a hurricane, determined to break down his walls and truly get to know him. She pushes and challenges him and makes him talk. And she makes him grumpier than ever as he tries to deny and avoid his attraction to her. But he also gets used to her presence and does not want her to leave. Eventually, they begin having a secret, passionate fling but with a set time limit.
This is a grumpy-sunshine, opposites-attract, age gap, small town, best-friends-little-sister, secret romance. Wilder starts out as one of the grumpiest of grumps I have ever read and could avoid like a pro. But when he is in it, he is protective, possessive, growly, and obsessed. And Iris is just so genuine, energetic, and interested that he has no choice but to succumb to his attraction to her. They are insatiable together in their little bubble. There are layers of guilt, fears, and issues to deal with. But as they begin to share, they start to know the other like no one else has taken the time to do and accept them for who they really are. But they also have to face some challenges and try to figure out what they both really want and need. It is also about empowerment, self-love, trust, and vulnerability.
There are some cameos of old friends and I always love visiting Calamity. One more book to go in the series!
Iris is a social media influencer who dances to the beat of her own drum. Her family doesn’t quite understand her career choice and is waiting for her to come home and go back to school. Something has been calling her to Montana, and since her brother’s best friend lives in Calamity, she makes that her next stop.
Wilder has made Calamity his home for almost a decade, working as a high school science teacher and earning himself a reputation as a bit of a grump and a loner. He has reasons for his reticence and he often feels his students provide enough socialization to suit him. He owes his best friend a favor and agrees to let Iris stay with him during her 2 months in Montana.
These two are complete opposites, in addition to a decent age gap between them. Wilder is a homebody, quiet, and set in his ways. Iris is always on the go, looking for adventure, and working to establish her own boundaries. When they find themselves sharing a home, they learn that they didn’t really know each other (not surprising given the age gap between Iris and her brother). As Iris peppers Wilder with questions, she chips away at the wall he had set up to protect himself, at the same time he challenges her to question her need to be constantly on the go.
I loved watching these two build a friendship and then skate the boundaries of what they thought those around them would find acceptable (while staying true to the persona they each had already established). They each had some things to unpack from their past, and though they ignore the fact that Iris has a time limit in Montana, they also built some pretty strong bonds quickly.
Each time there is a new Calamity novel, I love returning to this world. I remember seeing bits of Wilder during The Brawl, and there are a few scenes from that book that are shown from Wilder’s perspective here. I love having seen those little bits of his day through Larke’s eyes and now being able to see the same interactions through his own.
From start to finish I loved this story. It had all the heart I was looking for with some really fun details along the way.

She’s ready to put the Solo cup down and return home when a line of men takes the stage for the main event—the Wrangler Butt Contest. Ten men twirl and twerk and taunt the crowd with their Wrangler-clad butts in hopes of being crowned king. There’s no denying the devilishly handsome man who performs last has some very fine . . . assets.
So when she trips and falls into Aiden Archer’s arms later that night, she knows her trip to Calamity, Montana, is about to get interesting. And if Aiden has his way, it’s going to last a lot longer than one night.
Duke Evans didn’t expect to interrupt a beautiful woman in a staring contest with a bison on his favorite hiking trail. He also didn’t expect to see her again after rescuing her from the surly beast. As the sheriff in Calamity, Montana, he’s had his fair share of surprises but none as pleasant as pulling over a shiny black car and finding his mysterious hiking companion behind the wheel.
Only, she lied to Duke. She gave him a name as fake as her hair color. According to her driver’s license, her real name is Lucy Ross, the famous country music singer whose sudden disappearance has been a hot topic in the media over the past two weeks.
He’s not sure why Lucy lied about her identity or why she’s in Calamity. And she’s not talking. Instead, she offers him a bribe to keep her secret.
But Duke doesn’t want her money. He wants to know why this woman is on the run. And as long as the star shines on his badge, he’s going to find out.

Kerrigan Hale’s personal life is about as exciting as a bucket of tar. With hard work and hustle as her steadfast companions, who needs romance or adventure? Her empire in Calamity, Montana, isn’t going to build itself.
For years, her mentor—and investor—helped make her dreams come true. Until his unexpected death put her fate in his grandson’s hands. A brazen billionaire, he seems intent on ruining Kerrigan’s life.
But if Pierce Sullivan thinks she’ll go down without a fight, he’s sorely mistaken. Pushed to the extreme, she drives to his ritzy mountain lodge to force the arrogant You Can Call Me Mr. Sullivan to hear her out.
No sooner does she arrive than a snowstorm traps her with Pierce. Stranded together for days, she’s in for the battle of her life. Pierce is nearly irresistible by candlelight. Without his suits and fancy cars, he’s almost human.
Except only a fool would let down her guard. And Kerrigan can’t risk her future. Not when she doesn’t know if he’s out to pilfer her dreams . . . or to steal her heart.
Nellie Rivera is trading traffic for tranquility. When the quiet streets of small-town Montana beckon, she leaves Denver behind and moves to Calamity. It would be the perfect adventure if not for Cal Stark.

She was here first.
Cal has been a thorn in her side since high school. He might have bullied her back then, but she’s not a modest teenager anymore and has learned a few plays of her own. If all goes to plan, she’ll run the former pro quarterback out of town within a month.
There’s only one problem. Cal has the same plan. He wants Calamity bad enough to pull out all the stops. And after one kiss, she realizes that he doesn’t play fair.

Devney is a Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author. Born and raised in Montana, she loves writing books set in her treasured home state. After working in the technology industry for nearly a decade, she abandoned conference calls and project schedules to enjoy a slower pace at home with her family. Writing one book, let alone many, was not something she ever expected to do. But now that she’s discovered her true passion for writing romance, she has no plans to ever stop.
