On Ronan Thatcher’s first week in Montana, he spots the most beautiful woman in the world. Love at first sight? Nah. He doesn’t believe in love. But he wouldn’t mind a date or two with the local beauty. Ronan is the type of man who gets what he wants, and he wants Larke Hale.

Except Calamity’s sweetheart has sworn off men. The last time Ronan was rejected was, well . . . never. Yet Larke dismisses him without batting those pretty brown eyes.

Bruised ego in check, he decides to walk away. But then a teenager marches into his office asking to hire Ronan as her lawyer. Something about a bad grade and a ruined grade point average that will inevitably destroy her future. He’s about to lecture the kid for being melodramatic until he learns that the teacher she wants to sue is Larke.

Suddenly this frivolous lawsuit seems like a bright idea. Ronan wants Larke’s attention, and this is guaranteed to snag it. So let the brawl begin.

Ronan Thatcher is the new lawyer in Calamity and just trying to slow his life down, fit in, and get his business started. He is also running from some demons and in need of a fresh start. He is handsome, charming, confident, and used to woman falling at his feet.

Larke Hale is a teacher and single mom just trying to survive a semester of teaching high schoolers. She is strong-willed, independent, feisty, and just trying to do what is best for her daughter and stay out of the town gossip. But she also feels alone despite being surrounded by family.

Ronan is interested in Larke from first sight and it only increases when she rejects him...and again...But that only fuels his fire of determination.

And that was before they ended up on opposite sides of a case. It has the potential to be a messy situation. But they sure do like to get a rise out of the other.

They both have some issues stemming from past relationships. Ronan particularly worries about not being good enough in a relationship and Larke has serious trust issues. But they have great chemistry, banter,  and challenge each other. And they both also have empathy and concern for those around them. Ronan's protectiveness and care for "the girls" just melted my heart. And I loved Larke's spirit and heart. But again their situation is a bit complicated.

This is a snarky, antagonistic, sexy, heartwarming, city boy and townie single mom romance. There are some surprises and secrets that are gradually revealed. I love the themes of finding a home, acceptance, and found family. It brings back some of the previous characters including her sister, Kerrigan, and her husband, Pierce.  It introduces some new compelling characters as well that have a significant part in the story and one that will be the subject of the next book, The Brood. I always enjoy visiting Calamity and this was no exception.

Ronan Thatcher is new in town and as the newest lawyer in Calamity finds his days rather slow compared to his practice in California. Until a beautiful woman walks past his window and catches his attention. But this beauty wants nothing to do with him, and repeatedly turns him down.

Lark Hale has lived in Calamity all her life, as have several generations of her family. She is a single mother working to make sure her daughter has everything she needs. As a teacher, she misses her 5th grade classroom and finds her new placement at the high school more of a challenge than she was expecting.

Just as he starts to feel like he’s making headway convincing her to give him a chance, a case lands in his lap that will put them on opposite sides of the courtroom.

These two were so much fun to read. Ronan is determined to have a date with Lark, but she isn’t looking for anything - not even a fling. They each have hold-ups from previous relationships that make them hesitant to get into a relationship (and Lark has the added single parent status leaving her with little free time). But the connection to the lawsuit has them dancing the line between ethical as opposing sides work together to figure out why Ember is so set on this lawsuit.

My heart broke as we learned more about Ember as the story went on. I had some suspicions about her motives in the case but learning the truth was heartbreaking. I loved the way that whole aspect of the story was handled and the way it took both Ronan and Lark to figure it out.

There is more than one brawl brewing in Calamity and I was here for every single bit of it. I was surprised by a few of the twists and loved every small town moment. The idea of us versus them plays out in several threads of this story and added to the brawl-like tension building in the background.

For Lola Jennings, Valentine’s Day means a good book and an extra-large glass of wine. So when she finds herself standing in the middle of an enormous barn, bouncing between drunken cowboys and avoiding beer spills, she’s certain that Cupid has sent her into the fiery pits of hell.

She’s ready to put the Solo cup down and return home when a line of men takes the stage for the main event—the Wrangler Butt Contest. Ten men twirl and twerk and taunt the crowd with their Wrangler-clad butts in hopes of being crowned king. There’s no denying the devilishly handsome man who performs last has some very fine . . . assets.

So when she trips and falls into Aiden Archer’s arms later that night, she knows her trip to Calamity, Montana, is about to get interesting. And if Aiden has his way, it’s going to last a lot longer than one night.

Duke Evans didn’t expect to interrupt a beautiful woman in a staring contest with a bison on his favorite hiking trail. He also didn’t expect to see her again after rescuing her from the surly beast. As the sheriff in Calamity, Montana, he’s had his fair share of surprises but none as pleasant as pulling over a shiny black car and finding his mysterious hiking companion behind the wheel.

Only, she lied to Duke. She gave him a name as fake as her hair color. According to her driver’s license, her real name is Lucy Ross, the famous country music singer whose sudden disappearance has been a hot topic in the media over the past two weeks.

He’s not sure why Lucy lied about her identity or why she’s in Calamity. And she’s not talking. Instead, she offers him a bribe to keep her secret.

But Duke doesn’t want her money. He wants to know why this woman is on the run. And as long as the star shines on his badge, he’s going to find out.

As Calamity’s newest resident, Everly Christian thought life in small-town Montana would be dull and tame—and she needs a little mundane after the last few chaotic years. But one night, boredom drives her to the local bar, where she finds herself sitting beside a handsome and mysterious artist.

The man is anything but dull and tame, especially in the bedroom, and when she steps out of his shower and overhears his conversation, life gets interesting again.

Reese Huxley needs a wife.

And why shouldn’t Everly be the bride?

She’s got her reasons for agreeing to the hasty nuptials—reasons she’s keeping to herself. As long as she can stop herself from falling in love with her husband, she’ll make it out of this sham marriage in one piece. But Everly has a weakness for wayward men, and the more Hux pushes her away, the more she realizes this bluff is anything but a lie.
