Bridger Payne is an enigma that no one can figure out. Wise beyond his years, eerily intuitive and sexy as hell, every woman in The Silo wants him.
None can have him.
Not the real man, anyway.
He might wield the lash for you if you ask prettily, but he’ll get no gratification from it. He’ll definitely make you scream, but he won’t think twice about you when he walks away.
Bridger carries the darkest of secrets He’s filled with too much pain.
He’s utterly untouchable.
Until she came along.

**Warning: this book has sex in it. Lots of sex. Dirty sex. The Wicked Horse Series is a bit different than what Sawyer Bennett normally writes. While you’ll still enjoy fabulous characters, a suspenseful story, some witty banter and an epic romance, there’s just… a lot of sex. You’ve been warned.

Well, Sawyer Bennett saved the best for last! I have been waiting for Bridger's story since the beginning of this series and it is finally here!

Bridger Payne has always been an enigma...mysterious, closed off, controlled, unemotional, and kinky as hell. He has run the Wicked Horse and the sex club, The Silo, well due to his good business skills, ability to compartmentalize, and willingness to provide whatever kink or fantasy is needed. He's the last single man standing out of his core groups of friends, but he has his hard limits that no one even realizes. He's got up huge walls of protection and he feels nothing. The Silo helps keep him grounded and feel accepted. BDSM Sex is just a way for him to  inflict pain on people that crave it for pleasure and it gives him control and a sense of value. He has been desensitized to the act itself due to his past.

I knew throughout this series we were only scratching the surface with him, but finally we got to see under that armor. And what he has been through is not pretty and really screwed with his mind, body, and emotions. The only hint we have seen of his attachment and loyalty is in his relationships with his friends and the women they love. He is loyal, caring, and protective of those he trusts. But he guards himself and hardly anyone knows what he has really been through.

Maggie is basically dropped on his doorstep for protection. She is battered, broken, scared, and determined to fight. Not even Bridger can turn her away. She was caught up in a bad situation that still has potential to touch her...if they find her. She's got some things to live for and just wants to feel safe. She's used to using sex as a bargaining tool or being used, but never really enjoyed the act much herself. She has her own checkered past, guilt, and shame. They are more alike than they realize.

As she heals and live in close quarters, they forge an unexpected bond. This is something Bridger never saw coming and it scares him senseless. She's dangerous to his resistance. Now he wants something he can't have and does not think he deserves. He can handle sex, but not intimacy. He's never felt anything or craved something. He tends to push her away to keep himself from hoping for more since he feels shameful and unworthy. He is afraid of her tearing apart his carefully ordered world and defenses. He's afraid of hurting her. Deep down he would like to be able to change, but has little faith in his ability to do so or for anyone to truly accept or love him. He has never really considered a commitment or a future with someone. His past haunts him and interferes often causing confusion and hurt.  But Maggie is determined, understanding, and tries to patient of his limitations and issues.

But there is danger surrounding them with the first order of business to keep Maggie safe and prevent them from getting drawn further into the volatile situation unfolding. They will have to fight the threats and avoid the danger. But Bridger also has to fight his own demons and that is not something that is easy to resolve. It is a huge decision for him on whether he can truly bring another person into his life and share his secrets. But in order to have a chance, he would have to let her in and allow himself to be vulnerable.

Can Bridger finally allow someone to truly reach and penetrate his hard heart, earn his trust, and also be able to handle his issues and lifestyle?

This was my favorite of the series. I loved getting into Bridger's mind and seeing him open up. He was a man so shackled by the chains of his past that he was never really free. Maggie was the first person to scare him enough and make him feel enough to put cracks in his defenses and push his boundaries. He has a lot of tough decisions to make and he can be very stubborn and rigid in his decision making. There were times I wanted to smack him, others where he broke my heart, and some that made me melt into a pile of goo.

I enjoyed the return of the characters from this series Woolf, Callie, Cain, Sloane, Rand, Cat, Logan, and Auralie. I especially love Woolf and Bridger's tight brotherly bond. I like picking out cameos from other characters from different Sawyer Bennett series. Bridger's story is probably the most anticipated story of the series and it did not disappoint. It did not focus as much on the sex club activities, but was more Bridger's journey of dealing with his emotional and physical needs, facing his fears, and trying to find hope and healing. And it was also framed around the danger and suspense story surrounding Maggie. It all worked together to make for an interesting, tension-filled, and heartfelt story.

This is the Wicked Horse book I’ve been waiting for and Bridger did not disappoint. He is the enigmatic character in the background of all the other books, running the Wicked Horse and the Silo, participating in scenes and helping his friends, but otherwise closed off and unemotional. No one really knows his full story, not even his closest friend.

Until she is dropped on his doorstep, almost literally, battered, beaten, but fighting and in need of help.

Bridger is exactly the imperfect, broken man I was expecting based on the scarce clues throughout the series. Here, readers finally learn his secrets. His past is brutal. His present is cold. I knew his background was going to be rough. And it was. I knew it was going to take a special woman to break down his walls. And it did. He was a tough one to make fall (and put them both through the ringer on his way down).

There was more than just breaking down Bridger’s walls to this story though. Maggie was brought to him for a reason, and the danger she faced often took precedence over anything physical going on between these two. The need to remain hidden kept the story interesting, especially as secrets start coming out and remaining hidden becomes more difficult.

Though Bridger operates the club and bar, very little of the story actually takes place there, and the kink level of this book seemed lower than previous books. Bridger’s lack of passion for sex seems in opposition to his career, until one takes into account his background. Then the presence of sex around him but his lack of connection to the act makes a lot more sense. That doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty of sex and heat between Maggie and Bridger, but it takes a different direction as Bridger comes to grips with his past and how it will influence his future.

Previous Wicked Horse characters return to support Bridger and Maggie. The women make great strides to rally around Maggie and welcome her in as it becomes clear to them (if not Maggie and Bridger themselves) that Maggie is something different to Bridger. The men do what they can to help Bridger too. There are also cameos and mentions of a few other characters from Sawyer’s series, adding an entertaining link between series.

Where some of the other Wicked Horse books had short timelines, this one was quite different. Bridger’s hangups about relationships and sex were not going to be resolved within days, or even weeks. But the story kept moving just as the calendar did, and it kept me turning pages as fast as I could waiting for *that* moment. This is my favorite of the Wicked Horse books, both because of the story itself and because I had to wait so long to get it.

Our 4.5 star reviews

Never in your wildest dreams could you begin to imagine all the filthy and depraved things that go on inside The Wicked Horse. Step inside and Woolf Jennings will make every one of your dirty fantasies come true.
He’s covered in a facade of deception. An enticing blend of multi-millionaire and hot-as-hell Wyoming rancher, those that think they know Woolf Jennings admire his abilities to preside as CEO of his family’s cattle and oil empire. But only a privileged few truly understand what fuels the glitter of depravity in those gorgeous blue eyes. Only a few know he’s opened up a sinfully erotic and private sex club named The Wicked Horse right at the base of the beautiful Teton Mountain range.

Sweet Callie Hayes has returned home to Wyoming and is looking forward to starting her life over again. After a night of impetuosity, she’s managed to put herself right in Woolf’s line of sight… the man who she foolishly offered up her virginity to years ago and was flatly turned down.

Now Woolf is seeing that Callie is all grown up and has a kinky side to her that leaves him as confused as it does turned on. Worse yet, both Callie’s dirty desires and sweet heart are getting under his skin, and making Woolf question everything he’s ever believed about himself.

Cain Bonham is as big and bad as they come. After serving in the Marines, he’s returned home to Wyoming and now works as head of security at the exclusive sex club, The Wicked Horse. His job is to protect not only the patrons, but to zealously guard the secret existence of the club itself.
Sloane Preston is all about discovering secrets. As an undercover reporter, she’s determined to reveal the truth behind the facade of The Wicked Horse and expose it for all the world to see. She just didn’t count on her pathway into the club coming at the hands of one gorgeously scarred and bad ass bouncer who manages to easily possess her body and soul.

While Cain’s not looking for anyone to catch his eye, Sloane did it all the same, and he’s not bemoaning the fact that she’s as wickedly kinky as he is. As both get caught up in the sinful fantasies that only The Wicked Horse can create, secrets and loyalties will be tested and hearts will risk being broken.

Rand Bishop’s dreams of Olympic gold were shattered years ago but he’s left that all behind, settling into a new career and lifestyle that would make any man jealous. While he may not be competitively racing down the ski slopes anymore, he’s just as happy getting his rocks off as a Fantasy Maker for The Silo.

He’s good at what he does.
Damn good.

But while life couldn’t be better for Rand, it seems to be falling apart for Catherine Lyons Vaughn, the dark haired, brown-eyed beauty that has captivated an entire sex club.

Having spent years degrading herself on her husband’s whim and now left destitute after his death, Catherine has hit rock bottom. With nothing but her body to peddle, Catherine is merely trying to figure out how to survive in a harsh, cruel world. Lucky for her, Rand has taken her under his tattooed wing, and he’s determined to give her a safe life where she can be the woman she was always meant to be.

Now all Catherine has to do is believe she deserves the chance.

Wicked Ride (The Wicked Horse #4)

Rachel's 4 star review

I think this woman may be the death of me. A dire prediction, but probably true.
Probably true because she’s not mine to have and I’ll probably take her, even at the risk to my own safety. So many men slobbering to get a taste of her and only one, sweet, virginal girl to go around.
That’s right.
She’s a virgin.
Looking like a porcelain china doll that would break if not handled carefully. But I also know she’s stronger than she looks.
She’s a contradiction.
She’s most likely my downfall.
Like I said, she’ll probably be the death of me, but it’s a risk I’m willing to take.
