A stunning, heartfelt new stand-alone by New York Times best-selling author Mia Sheridan - available in audio first!
Brant Talbot runs a glitzy network of high-end bars in New York City, enjoying all the benefits of the lavish lifestyle he's worked so hard to achieve. When he learns that his estranged father is dying, he must return to his family’s Kentucky horse farm - and to a past he thought he left behind.
While facing long-buried truths, he collides with his father’s secretary, Isabelle Farris. Despite his undeniable attraction to the beautiful, independent young woman, he sees secrets in her eyes and believes she has designs on Graystone Hill.
Now the one woman he can’t afford to trust is about to become the one he can’t let go.
This is a new sign of love novel from Mia Sheridan that released as an Audible Original, but is now releasing as an ebook.
Isabelle started her life over and found her footing on a horse farm in Kentucky. When she calls the owner's estranged son to give him some news about his father, she never expected the man that shows up from New York City. Grant is broody, arrogant, stubborn, and demanding...and butts heads with his equally stubborn father.
She and Brant immediately challenge each other and even spark. There is a push and pull, and obvious attraction. But they both have issues from their past causing fears especially of loss. They may be attracted to each other, but can they ever really hope to work through their own issues? Not to mention she thrives in Kentucky while he owns multiple high demand businesses in NYC.
This is a story of two broken people who survived their pasts the only way they could using their own coping mechanisms. But they had closed parts of themselves off in the process. They are kindred spirits that unexpectedly connected. And while they have the potential to make each other whole, they also would have to be brave and strong enough to overcome their pasts in order to do so.
There is also a mystery and suspense thread running in the background that punches you in the gut starting from the prologue and runs throughout the book.
This was a beautiful, tragic, passionate, and heartfelt story about finding hope, home, love, and forgiveness. I loved the dichotomy between the horse farm and vibrancy of NYC. Some of the elements were so sad or emotional that it brought tears to my eyes. It is told in dual points of view that is critical understanding the characters' motivations and fears. My heart broke for them in their times of vulnerability, but I was also hoping for them to heal. Especially seeing Brant's heart emerge from its frozen state really touched me. Underneath that hard facade, he was caring, impulsive, vulnerable, and almost too protective. But sometimes he got caught up in protecting himself as well. I admired Isabelle's tenacity and caring spirit. She had been through so much, but just kept going. Between their own demons, interpersonal issues and fears, and the underlying threats, there was enough drama and angst to keep me flipping pages.
