Devney Perry

Release Day – February 19, 2019
Sofia Kendrick has always cherished her tiara. As the youngest daughter of a wealthy New York family, she’s lived the life of an American princess. But after two scandalous divorces and a breakup smear her name across the society rags, the shine from her crown has dulled. People call her superficial, even gaudy.

She’s nothing more than tinsel.

Desperate for escape and starving for peace, Sofia heads to Montana for a holiday weekend with her brother. But she doesn’t get the relaxing vacation she planned. Instead, she’s put to work in a bar alongside Dakota Magee—a man who does not want her help. A man who is set on teaching her a few lessons about real life and hard work. But Sofia has a couple of life lessons of her own to teach. Like how to fall in love.

I was not sure how I was going to like this one, but once again Devney Perry made me fall for her characters despite their flaws.

Sofia Kendrick in the Princess of Epic Failures...failed marriages and relationships, no purpose, and an embarrassment to the family name. She has always been the one overlooked and not valued by her family of overachievers. No one sees beyond the plastic veneer, and even she has so much self doubt that she has no idea what to do about her life. She has just come to the realization that she does not want to be seen as phony, superficial, or entitled anymore.

When she runs off to Montana to her brother, Logan to lick her wounds and get out of the society gossip for a bit, she finds herself in a position she never saw coming...working in her sister-in-law's small town bar.

Dakota Magee is the hardworking bartender. He does not have time for a social life, much less time to train a hopeless rich girl who never worked a day in her life. He has his goals and plans and works furiously to meet them. But for some reason, he can see under her layers and can appreciate her efforts. And before long they are sharing passion and a connection neither thought possible.

But unfortunately they are destined to live completely different lives. His is entrenched in Montana with his business and his family. He is from the Blackcreek reservation and they have expectations placed upon him that he seems never able to meet. And Sofia has only known life in the city with the ability to have anything she wanted handed to her. As they both begin a growth process that the other was the catalyst for, they find themselves in and out of each other's lives. But each goodbye gets harder while their differences and issues cannot seem to be fixed.

He has his pride, and she has finally found her own self worth and dreams. Will they find a way that they can both see a future that can bring all of the variables together?

This is a story of finding your own way, purpose, and priorities. It is not a quick and easy love story and it follows a timeline that is realistic with time jumps as needed. It is passionate, fun, and emotional, and at times heartbreaking and frustrating . I really liked both of the characters and felt bad for them as they struggled. I enjoyed getting their dual points of view and cameos from the others in the series. There was even a little bonus side love story in this one. I have come to love this group and how they have made a family and this wraps it all up for them.

Sofia is escaping to the quiet of Montana, to the shelter of her brother’s protection, after an interview paints her as the spoiled, out of touch princess that she is. For the first time in her life, Sofia is questioning her purpose and direction, as she had never considered herself as others see her.

Dakota is completely the opposite of Sofia. Having worked his entire life for everything he has, with dreams and goals he is working towards with everything he does, he doesn’t understand this woman who is suddenly his problem at work.

Coming from opposite worlds, these two have a lot to learn about the other. But they also are mutually intriguing as they spend more time together.

Devney Perry made me look closer at a character I would usually write off as exactly what she looked like on the surface. Sofia is the kind of character that often gets old quick. But the way she is written, I didn’t find her world outlook spoiled, rather it was a product of her life. When the mirror is placed in front of her so she can see what she looks like to others, she isn’t happy with what she sees. She may not know what she wants out of life, but she does know she needs a change.

I loved the way these two built a friendship. As Sofia tried to decide what she really want to do with her life and Dakota taught her real life skills, the world opened up for both of them. But the differences in their circumstances are so different that even though they have chemistry and sparks fly, there are too many challenges to think they can be anything other than a fling.

I loved the way this story was not rushed. The timeline builds the chemistry between them beautifully and over time in such a way that I hurt every time they went their separate ways. There is so much soul searching within these characters as individuals and as a couple as they each struggle to find their place and purpose.

Every time I return to Lark’s Cove, I am reminded how much I love this little town. Even though Dakota is not from Lark’s Cove, he has made it his home and the ties he has to the little town run deep. I love the way Sofia arrived with her cosmopolitan air and stirred up the sleepy town in her search for herself.

Thea Landry has always known her place in modern-day society. It’s somewhere just above the trash can her mother dumped her in as a newborn but below the class where much comes easy. With her tattered shoes and bargain-bin clothes, her life has never been full of glamour.

So when a rich and charismatic man takes interest, she doesn’t fool herself into thinking their encounter is anything more than a one-night stand. Months later, she’s kicking herself for not getting his phone number. Or his last name. She’s given up hope of seeing him ever again.

Until one day, years later, Logan Kendrick waltzes into her life once more and turns everything she’s built upside down. This time around, she won’t make the same mistake. She’s going to fight to keep him in her life—not for herself.

But for their daughter.

Willa Doon has always been shy. Her quiet demeanor was something she’s always embraced. That is, until Jackson Page moves to town. The one man she desperately wants to take notice struggles to remember her name.

Year after year, Willa stands by, watching as the bartender slash playboy drowns his demons in beer and sex. Then one night, he shows up at her door, suddenly aware that the girl he’s seen around Lark Cove is now a beautiful woman.

Except what he doesn’t remember is that this visit isn’t his first. They spent a night together once before. A night he’s forgotten, thanks to a bottle of tequila.

A night that crushed a timid girl’s heart, and set a broken man on the path to heal them both.

Kaine Reynolds wants nothing more than solitude. After an unthinkable tragedy destroys his family, he’s cut off all ties to his former life so he can battle his grief the only way he knows how.

Alone.
So when Piper Campbell knocks on his door, rambling on about being his new neighbor, he slams the door in her face.

But Kaine’s gruff demeanor doesn’t scare her. She’s set on living in Montana and starting over after a terrible divorce. And she wouldn’t mind having a fling to chase away the pain of her husband’s betrayal. Her handsome, albeit rude, neighbor is the perfect candidate.

Yet what neither of them suspect is that their no-strings affair will result in the surprise of Piper’s lifetime—and Kaine’s worst fear.
