The former Tin Gypsy motorcycle club has everyone in Clifton Forge, Montana convinced they’ve locked their clubhouse doors and ripped off their patches. Everyone but Bryce Ryan. There’s more happening at the club’s garage than muscle car restorations and Harley rebuilds. Her instincts are screaming there’s a story—one she’s going to tell.
As the new owner of the small town’s newspaper, Bryce is hungry for more than birth announcements and obituaries. When a woman is brutally killed and all signs point to the Tin Gypsies, Bryce is determined to expose the club and their leader, Kingston “Dash” Slater, as murderers.
Bryce bests Dash match after match, disappointed her rugged and handsome opponent turns out to be an underwhelming adversary. Secrets are exposed. Truths defeat lies. Bryce is poised to win this battle in a landslide.
Then Dash breaks all the rules and tips the scales.
One kiss, and she’s fighting to save more than just her story. She’s fighting to save her heart from the Gypsy King.
Bryce Ryan has left the big city and tv reporting to work for her father's small-town newspaper. The problem is the town might be too quiet and she is jonesing for a big story. And when one falls in her lap, she is going to jump on it no matter who is involved...even if it involves a former Tin Gypsy MC club that has been quiet for a year.
Kingston "Dash" Slater is enjoying flirting with the hot new girl in town until he finds out his dad is getting arrested and she is a reporter determined to get her story. This puts them at odds really fast. They spark, they fight, they annoy. They love to taunt and push the other. And there is some sexual tension and chemistry reaching a boiling point as they try to outdo the other.
Dash is trying to keep ahead of her and find out what is really going on to clear his father's name. But Bryce is a strong opponent with good instincts and a thirst for a headline. But in her lust for a big story is she overlooking possible truth in favor of an easy target? Do they have to work against each other or could they get better results by working together? Can either be trusted to fight fair?
This is a compelling and layered story full of mystery, secrets, and suspense. The present seems to be affected by the past, but there are a lot of puzzle pieces that do not seem to fit. I figured out some things, but there were still some twists. I was a bit surprised to see that there was a big loose end and there will be an ongoing story arc with the next book, but considering the circumstances it makes sense. I could not stop myself from reading the sneak peek into the next book, Riven Knight and am completely invested in their ongoing story.
This book was also funny, sexy, and at times emotional. I loved Dash and Bryce together. They were feisty and fun. They pushed and challenged the other and just totally got under each other's skin and changed their own expectations and plans.
This focuses on the town of Clifton Forge, Montana and brings a host of new colorful and interesting characters while bringing back some familiar ones...Nick from The Clover Chapel is Dash's brother. I am looking forward to the other books in this series as I am already intrigued by some of their stories.
Bryce Ryan is new to Clifton Forge, Montana and is looking for a big story as she settles in to her new role as part owner of the town’s newspaper. She has set her sights on exposing the truth behind the Tin Gypsys, the local, now-defunct motorcycle club. She is sure there is something nefarious behind their dissolution and when a woman is murdered and all signs point to a former president of the club, she is sure she is on the right track.
Kingston “Dash” Slater no longer leads the MC that would have been his, but his ties to Clifton Forge had him sticking close when may other former club members moved away. His focus on running a garage keeps him busy enough, but when his father is accused of murder, he finds himself tangled with the town reporter who is det on proving his father’s guilt. Working on opposing sides should have kept them separate, but a single kiss changes everything between these two rivals for information.
I loved watching these two battle it out with their wit and intelligence, especially as the sparks started flying and lines began blurring. Dash and Bryce are great counterpoints to each other, challenging and balancing at every turn. She is strong and fierce on her own, and I loved watching her shift her personal bias as she settled into her new role away from the pace of the big city. Dash has already settled in to life on the right side of the law, and the thought of having his past come back to haunt them is terrifying.
This was as much a murder mystery as it was a romance. The clues all pointed to the obvious suspect and I loved how Dash and Bryce went from working against each other to working with each other. As suspicions shift, the past seems like it might be catching up with the club, even after they had cleaned up their business. The search for the truth forces Bryce and Dash to work together to sort through the truth and the smoke. There were some pieces of their search that I was able to easily predict, but others that surprised me. I was also surprised to see part of the story left hanging for conclusion later, presumably in the next book.
I enjoyed getting to know Clifton Forge and this new group of characters. The teaser for Riven Knight has me looking forward to finding out exactly what happened to send those 2 characters to the events that are teased.
